Should I be Using Liquid, Powder and Cream Foundation?
Should I be Using Liquid, Powder and Cream Foundation?
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/chelsea-crockett-Should-I-be-Using-Liquid-Powder-and-Cream-Foundation.jpg
There are endless options out there when it comes to foundation. It can be a little overwhelming! There are so many brands and formulas. One of the biggest dilemmas: should you use liquid, cream or powder face makeup? The bottom line is that it really depends on your skin and personal preference! Some people like a dewy look, and others like a matte look. Here is some advice for choosing between liquids, creams, and powders.
- Use your skin type and “finish” as your guide: Liquid foundation generally looks more sheer and powdery. If you are oily then use this to avoid becoming shiny. If you want to be shiny or dewy, use a cream foundation. Cream is also great if you have dry skin. Powder is easy to layer on top of liquid or cream, just make sure to avoid layering too much so you don’t look cakey!
- Powders on top of liquids, but not liquids on top of powders: Like I said above, using powder on top of liquid or cream is just fine. Just make sure you let the liquid set before going in with powder. Things get tricky when you try and layer liquid over powder. This can cause cake-iness.
- Although you can layer liquid on powder by using these exceptions: If it is on the eyelids or small areas like that, you can get away with layering liquid over powder. You need to have awesome blending skillz to do this!
In the end, it is all about what works for your skin type. There is no
“rule” about what types of products look best on what skin type. You just have to decide what look you like best and what makes you feel comfortable. Just experiment and have fun with it!

Contouring Mistakes you May be Making
Contouring Mistakes you May be Making
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/28b.jpg
Contouring is one of those things that can be difficult to figure out. It is still sort of new in the world of makeup, and it is a technique that is different for each face shape. There are tons of ways to make easy contouring mistakes, even when following a tutorial. Here are a few common mistakes to avoid so your contouring game can go to the next level.
- Using the wrong shade: The most natural-looking contour should be about two shades darker than your skin tone. Going any darker can look too drastic.
- Using shimmery tones: A contour should look like a natural shadow, so you should use a matte color.
- Not blending: Make sure to look at your contour in different lighting to make sure you blend, no one likes harsh lines!
- Applying too much: Not every area of the face needs contouring. All face shapes are different, so different faces will want to highlight different features. When it comes to contouring, less is more.
Keep calm and contour!

Life Lessons from Proverbs 16:9
Life Lessons from Proverbs 16:9
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/life-lessons-from-Proverbs-16-9.jpg
Recently in my quiet time with God I ran across a verse that really touched my heart. The verse is Proverbs 16:9 and it says “People can plan what they want to do, but it is the Lord who guides their steps.” Let me tell you why this verse struck a cord with me.
I like to plan things out. I know i’m not the only one out there who likes to have a plan before going into anything, and likes to know what she has to do next. I like planning life out! It makes me feel in control. You know what the problem with that is? It is that I am not the one that is in control, GOD is. No matter how many life plans I make, or how hard I try to plan for the future and plan my future out, God is the one who has the ultimate say in how my life goes. I can plan all I want! I can take a piece of paper and write down what I want my life to look like in 5 years and make all the plans my heart desires. But it is God who determines your steps, and where life takes you. Pray to Him about your desires for your life. If they are His desires for you, too, He will see them through! He will guide your steps and will take your life down the path that He desires. That is such a comfort to me, because it lets me know that I do not need to worry about how my life will go, I just need to trust in God and seek Him and he will lead me where He wants me.
I pray that you trust God with your future as well. He can do such amazing things in your life if you invite Him in!

Easy DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner
Easy DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/chelsea-crockett-easy-makeup-brush-cleaner.jpg
Makeup brushes are one of the most-used items in our beauty arsenal. They help us put on our foundation, bronzer, blush, powder, and everything else you can imagine. Because they are used so much, they can start to gather bacteria and germs and need to be cleaned at least once a month. Here is how to make your own homemade brush cleaner to get those babies looking as good as new!
- Fill a small dish with olive oil and another with baby wash.
- Wet your brush, then pour a little olive oil and a little baby wash onto a saucer. Work the wet brush into the mixture, swishing it around and using your fingers to mix the oil and baby wash into the bristles.
- Rinse the brush under warm water thoroughly, gently squeezing the extra water out after you are finished rinsing.
- Lay out a paper towel and lay the brush on it, propping the brush handle up so that it is higher than the bristles. Allow the brush to air dry over night.
Do this sequence with all of your brushes to get them squeaky clean and to kill those pesky germs. Dirty brushes can cause pimples on your face from the bacteria on them, so cleaning your brushes is key to a clear complexion!

Damage-Avoiding Straightener Tips
Damage-Avoiding Straightener Tips
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/chelsea-crockett-damage-avoiding-straightener-tips.jpg
If you’re like me, then part of your morning routine for 50% of the week involves a flat iron, whether it is curling, straightening, or taming frizz. Unfortunately for us, flat irons can cause some major damage to our fragile locks. If you want to have healthy hair but also want to style it using heat, you can have the best of both worlds if you use the following tips!
- Prep with a smoothing shampoo: Use a heat repair shampoo and conditioner combo to prep and protect your hair. It will help replenish moisture back to it and get it ready for your next heat-styling sesh.
- Protect your strands: Before you heat up your hair, spray a good heat protectant on it. Pick one that protects from damage as well as smooths and adds shine. It will prevent it from becoming dry and stiff after you straighten it.
- Use ceramic plated irons: Ceramic plates protect your hair with negatively charged ions and helps keep your hair smooth.
- Use a deep conditioner: Once a month, treat your hair to some moisture! Your hair needs restoration if you frequently use heat on it, so letting a deep conditioner soak about 10 minutes on your strands once a month, then rinse and let your hair air dry.
Protecting your hair is so so important if you use hot tools often. The more you protect, the longer it will grow and the better it will look!

Life Lessons from 1 John 3:18
Life Lessons from 1 John 3:18
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/chelsea-crockett-life-lessons-from-1-john.jpg
“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” I love this verse from 1 John 3:18. It speaks about how we should love others.
How do you express love to others? Do you tell them or do you show them? As the old saying goes, actions speak louder than words, and that is exactly what this verse explains. Your actions and how you show people you love and care about them express a lot more than the words you say. Showing someone you love them may mean sacrificing your time to be with them. It may mean helping them out with something or going somewhere to support them. Showing others we love them is so important because it helps us build a relationship with them. I know I feel loved when my family and friends come to events that I am performing or speaking at, or when I am having a bad day and they come hang out with me.
So, let’s all try our best to show love to others with our actions, because there is no better way to show them you care.
XOXO, Chels

Surprising Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar
Surprising Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/chelsea-crockett-Surprising-Uses-for-Apple-Cider-Vinegar.jpg
Apple cider vinegar is an amazing natural beauty wonder. It has so many uses, from your teeth to your hair and more! Here are a few of my favorite ways to use apple cider vinegar in my beauty regimen.
- Clear blemishes – Add apple cider vinegar and water to a cotton swab, then apply the mixture to your face for a few minutes. Then rinse off with water. Do this once a week to cleanse your skin!
- Helps reduce the appearance of cellulite – Mix 3 parts apple cider with 1 part olive oil. Massage this on your cellulite twice a day until you see the results you want.
- Whiter teeth: Gargle apple cider vinegar with water in the morning and brush after you gargle. This will reduce stains and whiten the teeth.
- Shiny hair: Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water. Rinse it though your hair after shampooing, and leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse. I’ve done this before and it strips the toxins out of your hair and makes it so soft and shiny!
Try a few of these and comment below on how it worked for you! Which are you most excited to try?

Airport Hacks
Airport Hacks
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/chelsea-crockett-airport-hacks.jpg
I absolutely love to travel, and thank goodness for that because I travel often! Just recently I went to New York City promoting my new book! Because I travel bunches, I spend lots of time in airports. Now, I wouldn’t say I am an expert at airports, but I know a thing or two that makes traveling in them a little less of a chore. Here are 4 of my top airport hacks to help save you time and money!
- Bring your own snacks: Try as hard as you can to avoid buying snacks and drinks at the airport. They are waaaay overpriced. Pack travel snacks like granola bars and trail mix to munch on. Also, pack an empty water bottle in your luggage to fill up once you pass security.
- Wear the extra luggage: If your carry-on is close to the weight limit, wear your heaviest pieces and layer them to get past security. After you have gone through, head to the bathroom and take off the layers and pack them up. You might want to keep a jacket or sweater out of your bag, airports and planes can get chilly!
- Store your laptop in an easily accessed place: When you go through security they scan your laptop, which means you have to take it out of your luggage. Don’t be that person riffling through their suitcase, holding up the line at security because you packed your laptop in a hard to reach place!
- Make your luggage distinguishable: Standing around, waiting for your luggage after a long day of traveling is the worst part of the day. If you tie colored ribbons or fabric onto the handles of your luggage you will be able to quickly find it, grab it, and be on your merry way.
- Bring a portable battery charger: Airports do have charging stations, but they are usually majorly crowded. To make sure your phone never runs out of juice, carry a portable battery charger with you. That way you can charge it while you are waiting AND during your flight!
Happy travels!

Fast French Toast in a Mug
Fast French Toast in a Mug
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/images.jpg
Making meals in a mug is one of my new specialties. Recipes like these are coming in handy this summer when I am busy interning at my church and YouTubing. They are quick, easy, and perfect for just one person. Today’s mug recipe is a deliciously easy take on French toast! It is super quick and super delish.
Ingredients:
- 1 piece of buttered bread
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 TBSP of syrup
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 1 TBSP of chocolate chips
- Powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar (totally optional, but definitely recommended!)
In a microwaveable mug, mix the egg, milk, syrup, cinnamon and salt until well combined. Cut the bread into squares that are bite sixed. Add the bread to the mug and press the pieced down so they are covered with the liquid. Add the chocolate chips to the mug and stir them into the bread mixture. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar on top and then microwave the mug for 2 minutes, stopping every 30 seconds so it doesn’t spill over the mug. Let the mug cool about 1-2 minutes, then sprinkle powdered sugar on top.
Enjoy your yummy mug French toast!

Summer can do a number on your hair. It can dry out and frizz out the hair you worked so hard to keep healthy all winter. Keeping your strands moisturized is the key to maintaining its health. Just like your body needs protein to stay healthy, so does your hair! Here is an all-natural protein shake to use on your strands.

Summer Bandana Style
Summer Bandana Style
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/chelsea-crockett-summer-bandana-style.jpg
Bandanas are making a comeback this spring and summer, and I couldn’t be more excited. There are so many timeless ways to wear bandanas, from in your hair, to around your neck, to accessorizing your handbag! Bandanas are super cheap and are sold everywhere from fancy clothing boutiques to your neighborhood Walmart, making this trend affordable AND adorable. Here are a few of my favorite looks sporting bandanas this spring and summer.
- In the hair: Wearing your hair up in a ponytail or a bun can get old, so why not spice it up with a bandana? It will give you a fun, western vibe and will keep your hair out of your face and off your neck on warm summer days.
- Around your neck: Chokers are making a comeback, and bandanas are a great way to ease yourself into the trend. They are a classic fashion statement that has been worn throughout the years. Your mom probably wore them around her neck when she was your age! They give any outfit a dash of color and a pop of style.
- On your handbag: Tying a simple bandana around the handle of your handbag takes it up a notch. If you carry a simple handbag and are wearing a more muted outfit, knotting a colored bandana around the handle gives your outfit some character AND a pop of color!
These simple ways to incorporate bandanas into your summer wardrobe. What are your favorite ways to wear bandanas?

The Guide to Mastering Quiet Times
The Guide to Mastering Quiet Times
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Chelsea-Crockett-Quiet-Times.jpg
Quiet time: a peaceful time to spend with God and meditate on His Word. Have you ever set aside a half hour or so to spend solely with God? I understand that you may be busy or simply don’t feel motivated to get up and do it, and that’s okay! There are different ways to get you excited, stay encouraged and motivated, and find joy in quiet times!
- Make sure you have all you need before you sit down to do a quiet time! Be sure to have a Bible, journal, pen, and devotional or lesson to walk through.
- Set aside a specific time each day to devote solely to your quiet time. I usually try to get in at least 30 minutes, but you can start small with 10 or 15, or even 5 minutes before you head to school or work!
- Find a spot to do your quiet time. If you like the outdoors, find a place outside such as under your favorite tree or by a lake! You can even try out places like Starbucks or other coffee shops that have a relaxing atmosphere.
- Pick a certain devotional. This allows you to have a specific game plan when you sit down. Print out questions from online that go with specific verses or even get a guided devotional app on your phone!
- Find an accountability partner. If your friend is wanting to start doing quiet times, keep each other accountable. Text each other at the end of the day to make sure you both did one for the day!
I encourage you to try and set aside time once a day or even once a week. You’ll notice a huge difference in your life and yourself!
Love, Chelsea
