These days there are tons of beauty products available to help us clean and heal our skin. How are we supposed to know which ones are best for us? I like to go the natural route, and that is why I am a huge fan of witch hazel. It has a funny name, but it has some real results. Want cleaner, healthier skin? Here are the skin benefits of witch hazel.



  1. Kills bacteria on your skin that causes pimples.

  2. Prevents signs of aging.

  3. Protects against cellular damage and skin cancer.

  4. Heals acne scarring.

  5. Decreases redness of the skin.

Pour some witch hazel onto a cotton ball and use it as a cleanser after you wash your face every night. You can buy it at Walgreens, Walmart, Target, anywhere you buy your regular beauty supplies. It affordable and works great, which is my favorite combo when it comes to beauty remedies!

In the past when I would think of working out, I would think of doing cardio. I would think of running or biking or doing short exercise circuits. Fitness experts are saying that weight lifting is just as or even more important than getting that cardio in! When I say weight lifting I don’t mean getting huge bulky muscles or bench pressing your bodyweight. Light lifting can actually help you get slim, toned, and in the best shape ever! That’s why I started crossfit. Here are the deets.



  1. You will melt more fat: For real. Researchers have found that people who lift weights shed 6 more pounds of fat than those who only did cardio.

  2. Boost your metabolism: As you get older you begin to lose muscle mass, which can tank your metabolism. Lifting weights and building muscle keeps your metabolism kicking!

  3. You will burn through more cals: Your body continues to burn calories even after your workout is done when you lift weights. This is because your muscles have to work extra hard to repair their fibers!

  4. You will catch more Zzz’s: Strength training helps you improve your quality of sleep and helps you fall asleep faster.

In the past, weight lifting has not been my favorite thing in the world, but I have been making sure to work some weight training into my exercise routines because I know it will help me maintain a healthy, fit lifestyle!

Dieting can be a tricky subject.  Some people aren’t sure how to do it quite right which can result in actually gaining weight or hurting your body.  There are certain myths that revolve around the topic of dieting and I wanted to clear up a few of them!  This way, you can get the most out of your dieting! 🙂


  • You should skip meals to lose weight faster.  DO NOT do this!  Skipping meals and eating less is not the way to diet.  There are certain diet plans that will sometimes have you eating more rather than less!

  • It’s not good to eat after 8 or 9 PM.  WRONG!  Whether it’s 3 pm or 3 am, your body will still metabolizing the calories you eat regardless.  Instead of not eating after 8, try to cut out that unhealthy midnight snack!

  • You have to go on a diet to lose weight.  This isn’t always true!  Simply eating healthy can still do the job just as well.  That being said, if you want to diet, find one that works for you!

  • You don’t have to exercise as long as you’re on a diet.  WRONG!  As I mentioned before, these two go hand-in-hand.  Of course, you can lose some weight if you’re solely dieting, but the best results happen when you’re both exercising and eating healthy!

  • As long as the label says low-fat, then you’re good to go.  WRONG!  Just because it’s low-fat doesn’t mean there aren’t other things you should be worrying about.  Labels can trick you so be careful!

The biggest shift in seasons happens between summer and fall. The clothing gets heavier, colors get darker, and the feel of the season is moodier. Your makeup reflects these changes! Here are a few ways to update your look from summer dew to autumn hues and the products to help you do so.



  1. Copper orange: Reds and oranges are fall’s version of neutrals. Copper is the perfect in-between color. Try some warm hues on your eyelids with Urban Decay’s “Naked” Heat pallet. I love these tones, they give you a smoldering stare.

  2. Dark red: Deep red is fall’s staple color. There’s always the classic red lip color, but there is also another great way to wear shades of red, and that is on your cheeks! Swipe some rosy red cheek stain across your cheeks for color that will last all day long. The color is glamorous and just dramatic enough.

  3. Earthy brown: Brown tones may sound boring, but they can add major drama to your look. Smudge some brown under your eyes for a fall smoky eye, or use brown gel liner on your top lid for a more natural look.

  4. Pearly shimmer: Today’s makeup looks are all about the glow. Use a pearly metallic highlighter to accentuate your natural radiance.

Warm cookies are one of my greatest weaknesses. I am trying to watch what I eat and live a healthy lifestyle (check out my YouTube channel for my fitness routine!) so I attempt to minimize the sweets I eat. It’s tough, y’all. Here is a great way to enjoy warm gooey cookies without worrying about the guilt. They’re dairy free and gluten free, but our taste buds won’t know the difference!



Ingredients:


  • 2 scoops vanilla protein powder

  • 1 egg

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 1 cup smooth peanut butter

  • Pinch of salt

  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and grease a baking pan. Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thick like cookie dough. Scoop a spoonful out and roll it into a small ball. Take a fork and do the traditional crisscross pattern on the top, flattening the cookie. Bake them for 13-15 minutes or until they are slightly golden brown. Let them cool for about 10 minutes, then devour!

I have been hearing the phrase “clean eating” a lot lately. What exactly IS clean eating? I always knew it had to do with eating healthy and weight loss, but I never really knew exactly what it entailed.  Clean eating is simple. It is the concept of eating healthy, whole, unprocessed foods.  Here is a little more info on what clean eating is. Who knows, maybe you will want to try it out for yourself!



  1. Choose foods that are unrefined: This means that you eat more whole grains like quinoa and beans as well. Clean sugars are sugars like honey, agave, and maple syrup.

  2. Be aware of salt, sugar, and fat: When you cut out processed foods, it makes it a lot easier to do this! These are responsible for a lot of the extra calories we take in every day. Clean foods are naturally low in those three things.

  3. Don’t drink your calories: High calorie drinks like flavored coffee and soft drinks add an extra four to five hundred calories a day. Yikes! Choose water or green tea instead.

  4. Include carbs, fat, and protein in every meal: We usually get enough carbs and fat in our diet, but a lot of times we lack protein. Protein is important when you are trying to build muscle and can also keep you fuller longer.

  5. Minimize processed food: Try and focus on eating natural foods, not foods that are out of a box or can.

I am trying my best to eat clean, and if you want to live a healthy lifestyle, then you will too!

Pimples are such an annoyance. Seriously, they can make you feel self-conscious, they are sometimes painful, and are just plain obnoxious. They can single handedly ruin my day with their appearance. Ok, maybe I am being a bit dramatic, but still. Zits are just not okay. They’re especially annoying when you are about to go to an event or go on a trip! Here are a few ways to zap those pesky pimples out of your life.



  1. Use Advil on them: Cut open an Advil liquid gel and dab the liquid on your pimple to reduce its size. This is great when you are in a time crunch and need a quick fix.

  2. Use a baking soda mask: Create a paste with baking soda and water to help reduce the size and frequency of your breakouts.

  3. Vitamin E: Crack open a vitamin E gel and use it just like the Advil liquid gel!

  4. Neosporin: Neosporin is an antibacterial ointment and acne is caused by bacteria.

Kick pesky pimples to the curb with these fast and easy fixes!

Hair trends are like any other trend, they stay for a season or two then get replaced by even better ones!  This fall, there are a few upcoming looks that you just might have to try out for yourself!  Here are 5 hair trends you should know about for the upcoming season!


  • Caramel Brown.  Winter is usually the time to go darker rather than lighter with your hair.  But if you don’t want to go too dark, go with a soft, caramel brown!  You can still switch up your look without going too out of your comfort zone.

  • Rose.  If you’re willing to get a little out of your comfort zone, try out a dusty rose color.  Pastel hair has become a trend in the past few years so why not hop on the bandwagon and try it out for yourself!

  • Red Accents/Highlights.  I’ve always been a little tempted to try this trend out for myself.  You can get a subtle red tint or go for a full head of vibrant, red highlights.  Whatever suits you best!

  • Bold Brown.  Instead of adding subtle brown highlights, be bold and go for a dark, chocolate brown.  Why not, right?!

  • Blonde Lowlights.  If you want something a little more natural, try blonde lowlights.  Although you can only get these if you’re already blonde, they give you that darker tint that’s perfect for the winter!

I often hear people say “Man, I wish I had a better metabolism and could eat anything I wanted.” It is true, a fast metabolism is something that a lot of us wish for. Luckily, it can be achieved! There are a lot of things you do every day unknowingly that are driving your metabolism down, so it is important to drop these habits if you want to improve your metabolism. As we get older our metabolism naturally slows, so it is really important to keep these things in mind!



  1. Sitting all day: When you sit all day it causes your body to turn off at the metabolic level as your circulation slows. Your fat burning enzymes turn off and your blood sugar is used less. Try getting up and walking every hour or so to wake your circulation up. I know this can be hard, being in school or work all day, but walking to class can help wake that circulation up.

  2. Not getting enough snooze time: Not getting enough sleep can cause our metabolism to slow down to conserve energy. Sleep deprivation also increases our cortisol levels, which lowers the hormones that are used to metabolize nutrients.

  3. Drinking too little H2O: Water isn’t the most fun drink to guzzle (I mean, Dr. Pepper tastes pretty much 10x better), but it is the best thing for you. It can speed your metabolism up almost 30% after you drink some down!

  4. Eating at bad times: Your body has a natural rhythm that goes with your sleep and wake cycle, and it has a hard time digesting food at night. People who eat later at night burn less calories than those who eat earlier in the evening, studies prove it! Also, eating light meals during the day and then a big meal at night is not smart.

Staying away from these metabolism-slowing habits helps you kick your calorie-burning power into gear, but you still need to eat healthy and exercise to be as healthy as you can be.

Lately I have started to work out at a crossfit gym to keep in shape and stay slim. I love crossfit because it pushes my muscles and my mind, but I have to admit that my first love is running. I love being able to put my headphones in, lace up my shoes, and drown the world out for a while. Running is a great way to get/stay in shape and improve your health. Here are 8 reasons why you should start running regularly (even if it is not your favorite).


  1. Running is simple: It doesn’t require a lot of equipment, it is easy to get into, there is no gym required, and everyone knows how to do it!

  2. You can do it anywhere: It is such an accessible sport. You can run in the park, on the trail, on the treadmill, in your neighborhood, anywhere! I recommend that if you are running in a rural area that you take someone with you for safety reasons.

  3. You can do it any time: In the morning, in the evening, during your breaks from class, if you are on vacation, you can do it any time! If there is bad weather, you can even run indoors.

  4. Helps you lose weight: Running not only helps you lose weight, it helps you keep the weight off for good.

  5. Reduces stress: If you are feeling stressed, running helps you boost the endorphins, or feel-good neurotransmitters, in your brain.

  6. Strengthens your immune system: Running helps protect your body from illness by strengthening your immune defenses.

  7. Makes you glow: Sweating is one of the body’s best ways of cooling down and helps you release toxins from your pores and skin. The more miles you rack up, the more toxins you get rid of, and the clearer your skin will be.

  8. Gets you to eat healthier: Athletes know that you are only as good as your diet choices. To make the most of your workout, you need to eat right. Running forces you to really stop and think about what you are putting in your body.

Running too much can be bad for your body and can wear you out, so make sure you are listening to your body and not overdoing it.

You know those girls that walk out of the gym with perfect hair? Like, not one strand is out of place or frizzy (ahem, Taylor Swift)? I envy them. After I work out, my hair is a sweaty mess! Especially after my intense crossfit workouts. Little did I know that working out/going to the gym can cause some serious hair damage. Now, don’t let that stop you from kicking butt in your next workout, we just need to learn how to treat our hair while, before, and after we exercise. This will do our strands a favor in the long run.



  1. Prep your hair before pumping iron: It may seem silly to spend time on your hair before you work out, I mean, it’s going to get messed up anyway. Right? But, spending a few seconds on your mane pre-workout is a must if you want great post-workout locks. Use dry shampoo on your roots before you work out to prevent excess moisture in your hair from sweat.

  2. Too-tight ponytail: If your ponytail is too tight it can be damaging your hair! Plus they can make dents in it and if you want to style it afterwards you can pretty much forget it. Try a loose, high bun for post-workout volume, or try a fishtail or another type of braid for loose waves after you take it out.

  3. Protect yo-self: If you work out outside, you need to protect your scalp from the sun. Scalp sunburns= the least fun you will ever have. My advice is to wear a cute running hat or ball cap when you exercise outside. Functional AND cute. Also, be gentle when brushing your hair post-workout. It can get pretty tangled when you’re getting your sweat on, so go easy on it to prevent damage.

If your goal is long, healthy hair, keep these tips in mind the next time you head to the gym.

When you are in a relationship, are you a jealous person? Meaning, when you see your dude talking to one of your girlfriends, does it make you feel possessive of him and maybe a bit mad at the other girl for talking to him? He’s yours after all, right? Wrong. Ladies, we need to keep our jealousy in check. Feeling a little jealousy is natural, but snooping his Instagram and checking his texts when he isn’t looking is NOT. That could ruin your relationship, plus it is just exhausting worrying about him talking to other girls. Here are 4 ways to help you keep your jealousy in check.


  1. Be honest: Let your boyfriend know that you have been feeling jealous. Open up to him! In healthy relationships, you two are a team! He should be open to hearing what is on your mind, and he should want to help you overcome these feelings and work with you on it.

  2. Ask friends for advice: Odds are, they have felt some jealousy themselves. Your gal pals will know how to be supportive and lend an ear to hear you out. They may even have some tips on what helped them overcome jealousy.

  3. Take a step back: Step back and look at your relationship. If time goes by and your feelings of jealousy don’t ease, your boyfriend might be the culprit. He may be acting certain ways that he shouldn’t with girls that make you suspicious or jealous. Your feelings of jealousy might not be your doing! Look at your relationship from another perspective and be honest with yourself on whether your relationship is still healthy and positive.

  4. Stop snooping: As girls, we are great social media stalkers. We can find out anything! But, once you start social media snooping on your bf, it is hard to stop. Stop playing detective! It isn’t healthy! You should be able to trust him and his behaviors and interactions on social media. If not? See step 3.

Facial hair: everyone has it. Even us girls! We have finer, lighter hair on our faces than the dudes do, but we still have hairy faces none the less. Sometimes the hair on my upper lip makes me self-conscious. It’s totally not noticeable to anyone but myself, but it still bugs me. I started doing a little research on facial hair removal, and I discovered that a lot of women shave their face! High class celebs like Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe swore by it.



Why? Because it is actually really great for your skin! By using a razor to remove the hair, you are also exfoliating your skin, which is a great for anti-aging. This makes your makeup go on smoother and gives your skin a glow! Here are a few common questions most women have about shaving their face:


  1. Does it hurt: Nope! You can get razors that are made for shaving women’s faces.

  2. Does it grow back thicker and darker: Nope!

  3. How often should I shave: Once or twice a week, if you make it part of your skincare regimen it will become a habit!

  4. What is the technique: First, get yourself a face razor at Walgreens. Next, pull your skin taut and shave downward on the skin in short strokes. Moisturize your face afterwards to keep it from getting too dry.

This next part is important: Only shave if you WANT to! This is totally a preference thing. If you don’t care about the invisible hair on your face, then leave it alone! Everyone’s beauty preferences are different. 😊

When you have a roommate, you start to notice every little detail about them.  You know their pet peeves, their cleaning habits, their unique characteristics… literally everything!  Sometimes you leave the year as best friends, other times you leave wanting nothing to do with one another.  If you’ve had a roommate, you’ll understand these 5 struggles!


  • Walking in the room and she’s wearing your clothes.  This can either be something to laugh at or one of the biggest triggers for an argument!  It actually happens so much more than you think it would. 

  • Hitting the snooze button over… and over… and over again.  If you’re this roommate, then come up with some different ways to force yourself out of bed.  If it’s the other way around, this can drive you absolutely crazy!

  • Having lots of friends over when you’re trying to study.  Ugh, this is the worst!  You may want them to stay because it’s so much more fun than doing homework, right?  But when you get that test grade back, you may think differently!

  • An hour after you clean and the room’s already a disaster again.  I’m sure both of you can take a little bit of the blame on this one, but it’s usually pretty one sided!  It may help to pair yourself up with someone who’s just as organized as you are.

  • Trying to get ready at the same time.  As girls, this can be super fun or super hard.  It seems like you always need to shower at the same time, use the blow dryer at the same time, etc.  Come up with a game plan to eliminate this problem!

“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:14-17


 


The Armor of God is something that you can’t see or touch but can feel it all around you.  It’s something that God equips us with that we can choose to put on morning by morning or completely ignore as a whole.  There are five different parts to this armor: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit.  Each part of God’s armor has a different use that clothes you with the strength to get through the day.


 


If you wake up morning by morning and allow God to clothe you in each of these things, you’ll be 10x stronger in battling situations.  When you’re discouraged, you can use the belt of truth and the shield of faith to remember how much God loves and cares for you.  When you’re tempted, you can use the sword of the spirit to defend yourself against Satan.  There are so many different ways to use each part of the armor of God.  He gives you each of these tools so you can battle each day by walking firmly with him!

I don’t know how many times I have heard the phrase “there are no good boys in my town” when girls are talking about why they don’t have a boyfriend. And sometimes, that really can seem like the truth! In my age group, there seems to be a lack of gentlemen, and finding a quality guy can feel like finding a needle in a haystack. Don’t lose heart! There is a guy out there for you that will treat you like a lady. Here are the signs that you have found a true gentlemen.



  1. He treats the women in his life with respect: Whether it is his mother, sister, or other friends that are girls, a boy should respect and treat them with dignity. He does this by listening to them when they talk and by affirming and defending them. I was always told to watch how a boy treats his mother, because that is a sign of the way he will treat his girlfriend.

  2. He values you: A gentlemen will lift you up, not tear you down. He will make sure you know how valuable you are!

  3. He is confident without being cocky: No one likes being with a guy that is full of himself. A gentlemen is humble, and he also seeks guidance from people that are older and wiser than him, aka he is not a know-it-all!

  4. He is smart with money: This one isn’t as big of a deal at this stage of life, but knowing how to wisely handle money is a biiiiiiig deal as you get older! So, having a guy who knows how to save money and doesn’t blow it all the second he gets it is a huge plus. Getting in the habit of saving money is really important.

Finding a true gentlemen may be hard, but it is worth the wait! You are worth it.
