This generation is the generation of smartphones.  We don’t want to admit it, but we love our phones and depend on them for more than we realize!  I’ve written many articles and have even made videos about various beauty and fashion hacks, but what about some iPhone secrets?  You can thank me later! 🙂


  • Faster charging.  If you need a quick charge for your iPhone, put it on airplane mode while it’s plugged in.  This turns off all of its features so it’s using minimal battery while trying to charge up!Chelsea Crockett - iPhone Timer Hack

  • Fall asleep listening to music.  If you like a little background music while you fall asleep, you can set a timer to turn off your music for you!  As long as it’s through Apple music or Spotify, you can go to your clock app, select the timer tab, and select “Stop Playing” in the “When Timer Ends” setting like the picture on the right.  It’ll shut your music off for you when the timer is done!

  • Better selfie editing.  If you download Facetune for $0.99, you can get rid of annoying pimples and blemishes.  It also has tons of cool features to perfect your pic.

  • Improving battery life.  If you’re phone is running low on battery, you can go to the battery tab of the settings app and switch on the “low power mode” setting.  It turns off unnecessary features to stretch out your battery life for up to hours at a time!

Humidity is the absolute worse.  Your hair can go from straight to curly or curly to flat as soon as you step outside!  Even your makeup can’t beat the heat and ends up sweating off before no time!  If your hair is notorious for frizzing up when humidity Chelsea Crockett - Double Braidsstrikes, try some of these hairstyles to rock no matter what the temperature is!


First rule is to conceal as much of your hair as possible.  Wearing a simple ponytail will still leave room for it to frizz up!  My go-to hairstyle is French braids or a fishtail braid.  Since the double braids are back in style, I rock them all the time!  If you can’t do French braids on yourself, try learning how to fishtail.  It’s super easy, and with a little practice you can master the look yourself!  (P.S. this is a good hairstyle if you have a lot of layers. Chelsea Crockett - Braided Bun It takes little pieces at a time so it stops them from sticking out like they might in normal braids!)


If you need a little extra help containing the frizz, don’t be afraid to utilize accessories!  Things like headbands and hats are made for rescuing you from hair emergencies!  Apart from accessorizing, buns are good for this too.  I have yet to try this style for myself, but braided headbands followed by a bun like the picture on the right are super cute!

We’re in the generation of wanting things at the snap of our fingers, right when we ask for it.  We often find it hard to trust that God’s plan is perfect and think that ours may be better in the long run.  It can sometimes get frustrating when we have to wait and be patient.  It may even start to feel like the wait is too much to bear.  Luckily, God gives us His word to help us turn to when we’re in need of patience!Chelsea Crockett - Patience Bible Verse


Proverbs 14:29 says, “Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”  In this verse, God is telling us to be slow to anger.  We often get so frustrated when God doesn’t answer our prayers right away, or even at all.  We need to pray for understanding and self-control.  If you can’t change the outcome, change the perspective!


Ephesians 4:2 says, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”  This verse is a perfect verse to reflect on when struggling with patience with other people.  Be humble and kind, having love for even those who hurt and persecute you!


2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”  This is one of my favorite verses about patience.  God is never slow or absent, He is simply fulfilling His will for you (and His plan is perfect!)!  He is patient with us as we should be with Him!


I urge you all to pray for patience.  It will change your perspective and give you peace in all situations.

We have all had those days where we wake up and our hair looks like a bird has started nesting in it. Bad hair days are the worst because we are helpless in the fight against our hair and it can feel like there is nothing you can do to make it look remotely better.  Here is a handy dandy list of ways that you can beat your next bad hair day, or even prevent it!


  1. Is your hair dull or brassy? Give your hair natural shine by taking fish oil supplements! Along with a ton of other health benefits, fish oil works from the inside out, giving you naturally glossy strands.FullSizeRender (6)

  2. Running late or have horribly unmanageable hair? Braid it up. Braided hairstyles are your bff on days when you just don’t want to mess with your hair because they mask the craziness!

  3. Steer clear of hair products that have silicones or sulfates in them. Those chemicals dry out your hair and disrupt it’s natural wave/curl pattern. This means mega frizz! Also, maintaining a healthy diet can really benefit the health of your hair. Avoid eating too much salt, sugar, caffeine and carbonated beverages.

  4. Topknots = lifesaver. These high buns keep your hair out of your face and disguise the mess it really is!

  5. Use them! Blair Waldorf set a great example for us. Headbands add a little extra oomf to hair if it needs something to spice it up and it keeps your strands out of your face.

  6. Are you battling static electricity and flyaways? Rub a dryer sheet over your hair!

  7. When straightening your locks, pull the hair up towards the ceiling when running it through the straightener to add volume to the ‘do.

If you have been with me for a while, then you know I used to have loooooong hair. My sister Kylie has beautiful long locks right now and I catch myself wishing I had mine back! Although I sometimes reminisce about the times when I had long locks, I really dig my shorter ‘do.  Sometimes having long hair was such a hassle, and was very hard to maintain. Cutting your hair short means a fresh start and a totally new look, and one look that is really in right now is the long bob haircut, but before you go cutting off your tresses and taking the short hair plunge there are a few things you need to consider!


Styling tools switch: The tools you use to style your long hair may not be ideal with your short hair. Big barreled curling irons usually get the boot and smaller thinner irons and straighteners will take their place. The smaller tools allow you to have better control of your shorter ‘do.FullSizeRender (4)


Style time: Shorter hair takes less time to style, which is a total bonus! You won’t have to wake up as early in the morning to style it and it takes less time to dry than longer hair does.


Hair heaviness: Shorter hair has less weight to it than longer hair. This means that if you have natural curls or waves, they will be tighter with short hair. I think that this is a plus because when you get out of the shower all you have to do is work a little product into your hair and you can let your hair go natural!


Saves money: Shorter hair= less shampoo and hair products!


It is drastic: Lots of girls have an emotional attachment to their hair (myself included) so the thought of chopping off your hair can be frightening. But, just remember, it WILL grow back! Buuuuuut..it will not grow back overnight. It takes minutes to cut your hair, but months to grow it all back. It is quite a commitment!


So, before you decide to board the “short hair train” give it a bit of thought!

Burpees are probably one of my least favorite exercises on the planet, but they are such a good workout! They work your abs, arms, legs, glutes, just about everything! Usually when I am making up my own workout routine I incorporate burpees into it because not only do they work a lot of muscle groups, they also give you a great cardio workout! Here is a burpee challenge that is sure to have your muscles burnin and your heart pumpin! You are definitely going to feel this the next day ;).


1 Burpee, 9 Squats


2 Burpees, 8 Squats


3 Burpees, 7 Squats


4 Burpees, 6 Squats


5 Burpees, 5 Squats


6 Burpees, 4 Squats


7 Burpees, 3 Squats


8 Burpees, 2 Squats


9 Burpees, 1 Squat


Take a one minute break and then do the whole thing over again, but this time from the bottom up! So, start with 9 Burpees and 1 squat and then go from there. I believe in you, ladies! Go kick some burpee booty!

During the summer, I am a fruit snacker. I love having fresh fruit around! If you want to work fresh fruits into your daily summer diet, try making this delicious, nourishing, homemade vitamin water! Unlike store-bought vitamin water, it has no added sugar or artificial sweeteners.


Ingredients:vitamin-water-1-0813


  • 2 cups cubed watermelon

  • 1 sliced lime

  • 1 sliced lemon

  • ½ sliced and quartered red grape fruit

  • 1 sliced medium cucumber

  • 12 mint leaves

  • 2 quarts water

  • ice

Combine the fruit, cucumber, mint and water in a large pitcher. Stick the pitcher in the fridge and let it infuse overnight. The next day, pour yourself a large glass over ice and enjoy! This simple and easy vitamin water is great to make just for you, or for a summertime party! It has a tons of nutrients and vitamins in it, so you can feel great while you treat yourself to this tasty drink.

I love lacing up my running shoes and hopping on the trail. One of the best things about summer is sunny outdoor workouts! That being said, it is important to watch the weather, and temperatures, to make sure you are being smart about summer outdoor workouts.download


My summer workout advice? Always check the weather before you go outside for a summertime run. Why does this matter? The heat and humidity can have adverse effects on your health. Experts say you shouldn’t run if it is over 90 degrees or if the humidity is high. This is because running with humidity affects your heart rate. Your heart rate increases two to four beats

per minute in temperatures from 60-75 degrees, and up to 10 beats per minute in temperatures from 75-90 degrees. Increased heart rate can cause dangerous side effects! Running in cooler weather is much easier and comfortable for your muscles and heart. Run earlier in the morning or later at night to avoid the intense heat, and remember that if it is over 90 degrees and 70% humidity, it is not safe for you to run outside.


Exercising is great when you are smart about it. 🙂

Believe it or not, summertime is when we are most likely to be at our healthiest. Our immune systems are stronger because of our body’s natural circadian rhythms. Although this is true, it doesn’t mean that we can slack on taking care of ourselves and protecting our body! Here are some common summer health myths that cause some people to stumble up when it comes to self-care.


  1. The sun will clear up your acne: I have had friends tell me that they go to the tanning bed because it helps them manage their acne. That is not the right way to treat acne! The sun, or tanning bed, won’t dry out your zits. A tan may help camouflage them, but so does concealer.2220101

  2. The sunscreen in your makeup is enough protection: Relying on the SPF in your makeup is a common mistake. The SPF in beauty products usually isn’t high enough to really protect your skin. Use a daily moisturizer with SPF in it in addition to your makeup for full protection.

  3. You are only sunburnt if your skin is red: Not true! Sometimes it can take hours for your burn to actually start showing. So, if you are laying out in the sun and it looks like you aren’t burning, you won’t always spot it is burning until it is too late. It can take up to 6 hours to start to show redness!

If you don’t know if something is true, ask your doctor or a trusted medical expert. Better safe than sorry!

3 Sweet Summer Popsicle Ideas

Popsicles are my favorite summer snack.  Whether you want sweet, fruity, or chocolatey, you can find a popsicle to satisfy your craving!  I’ve came across a few mouthwatering recipes that look absolutely delicious that I wanted to share with all of my fellow popsicle lovers!


  1. Tutti-Frutti Ice Pops.  For these you’ll need: a ½ cup of sliced strawberries, a ½ cup of sliced peaches, a ½ cup of blueberries, 2 sliced kiwis, and 1½ cups of coconut water.  You’ll need six ½-cup popsicle molds to divide your fruit among evenly.  Pour in the coconut water, place in popsicle sticks, and freeze your pops for 5+ hours. Chelsea Crockett - Nutella Pops Then enjoy!

  2. Sweet Tea Pops.  This may be the simplest treat to make.  All you need is to purchase your favorite sweet tea (mine is Gold Peak!) or make your own.  Then pour it into the molds, set popsicle sticks in, and set them in the freezer for a few hours!  So simple yet so delicious!

  3. Nutella Cool Whip Popsicles.  All you need for these is: a ¼ cup of Nutella, 1 cup of milk, and 1 cup of cool whip.  Combine the milk and cool whip together in a mixer then whisk in the Nutella.  Pour them into the mold, place in the popsicle sticks, and freeze for 6-10 hours!

Side note: If you’re having trouble getting the popsicles out of the mold, run cool water over the frozen popsicles or run warm water over the back of the mold.  Both should help your pops slide out much easier!

Swimming at the pool or beach is all fun and games most of the time.  But those long days in the water can sometimes pose a problem to your hair and skin.  I found some tips that are super beneficial to recover from a day at the pool.  There are many swim fixes that can make your summer much more enjoyable and worry-free!


As teenage girls, most of us like to shave our legs, armpits, and sometimes our bikini lines.  Sometimes we end up with the much dreaded razor burns and bumps.  Chelsea Crockett - SunBum Hair SunscreenFor these, they can be relieved with a little aloe vera and lotion.  To prevent them from coming back, wait a few days before shaving over the area again.  This will stop the bumps from getting irritated and flaring up.


Sometimes day’s spent in the water can put your hair and skin in chlorine overload.  It’s known for drying out the moisture in your skin.  In order to hydrate it, rub raw coconut oil on your skin a couple times a day.  This should help restore any missing moisture that was taken!  As far as hair goes, being in the sun can lighten it dramatically, especially if you dye it.  There are many brands that actually sell hair sunscreen that protect your locks from sun damage!  Just spray it on and you’re set for the day!

Sometimes our thoughts can get the best of us. We are our toughest critics. Sometimes we feel insecure about ourselves and put ourselves down instead of feeling comfortable in our own skin and confident in who we are. It is easy to feel uncomfortable in our own skin when we look at others and think “wow, I would love to be them…” You are already perfect just the way you are! Here is how to overcome your negative thoughts and love yourself just the way you are.


  1. Don’t seek others’ approval: Don’t seek validation from other people and don’t base the way you feel about yourself on the way someone else feels about you! Don’t seek other people’s approval. No one knows you like you do! That means FullSizeRenderthat only you can determine your self- worth. When you stop worrying about what other people think about you, you will feel more confident and strong. Just be yourself and the right people will love you for it!

  2. Don’t listen to the media: When you are constantly surrounded by magazines, movies, TV shows, and social media that show us what the “perfect body” and “perfect person” looks like, it is easy to start comparing yourself to them and easy to point out your imperfections. Rather than comparing yourself to that, learn to appreciate your own body and personality and accomplishments! God made you the way He did for a reason. Believe it! Don’t let the media tell you that you need to look or act or feel a certain way. Just do you!

  3. Pick positive people: Surrounding yourself with people who are positive and don’t put you down is so important! They help you see your worth and potential. Positive people help you feel comfortable and confident in your own skin and can help you see just how amazing you are!

Everyone has insecurities, and they are not easy to overcome, but as long as you realize that you are amazing and beautiful and that you can do anything, because God made you and loves you just the way you are, you can start the journey of becoming comfortable in your own skin and confident in who you are.

If you follow Taylor Swift on Instagram, then you have surely seen her pool party pictures. She seems to have the most amazing pool parties ever! One of my favorite things about summer is going to my friends’ houses that have pools because my family doesn’t have one! In light of my pool-lessness, I decided to come up with a few ways to have a pool party…without having a pool! Sounds a bit silly, but read on to find out how!


  1. Location: When you are having a pool-less party, make sure you have it in a place that has a hose and electrical outlets nearby. Also, have it in a place with plenty of grass to give your feet a break!f91108_bb07717e7ada4fd9bda8bd83b29f3558

  2. Pool alternative: Go to Walmart and buy 3 or 4 little kiddy pools and have those sitting out! People will love being able to dip their feet in without having to get their whole body wet. Fun sprinklers are also a must! You can also play slip and slide kickball, which is a total blast. You can also have a water balloon fight, or even just have a volleyball net set up! Give people lots of things to do.

  3. Food and beverage: Have lots of refreshing, juicy fruit cut up and ready to serve. People love fruit on a hot summer day! You can also get fun flavors of soda and lemonade for a nice summer beverage.

  4. Décor: Because you don’t have an actual pool, give your party a “pool party” feel by blowing up inflatables and using them as décor! You can also put up pool umbrellas to give your guests some shade. Use beach balls instead of volleyballs to give your party and even more “pool-ish” feel!

Just because you don’t have a pool doesn’t mean you can’t have a pool party!

I love to surround myself with people who make me laugh, because the phrase “Laughter is the best medicine” is so true! I love to laugh. When I am with my friends, you know there is going to be a moment of the day where you will be laughing until your stomach hurts. Not only is laughing a great feeling, but it is also proven to be good for your health! Here is how:


  • Increases your sense of trust in others which helps strengthen your relationship with them

Life is so much better when it is filled with laughter. I am so blessed to be surrounded by people who are constantly making me laugh and smile. Learn to laugh things off and not to take life too seriously. After all, you only live once!

My favorite post-workout snack is a protein shake. Not only do they taste good, they help me to replenish my energy and give my muscles the protein they need to help them become stronger. There are tons and tons of different protein shake recipes out there, but this one is my fav when I do a morning workout. It is a cinnamon roll protein shake! Who knew you could treat your body to some protein AND treat your taste buds to a cinnamon roll!Cinnamon-Swirl-Protein-Smoothie-41


Ingredients:


  • ½ cup almond milk

  • ½ cup water

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp butter extract

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • Ice

  • Sweetener to taste

Put all of your ingredients to the blender and blend it all up.


How good does this sound!? I love how creative you can get with protein smoothies. Working out isn’t such a hassle when you know you get a sweet, protein packed reward after!

When you take into account how often you use makeup removing wipes, which is probably once or twice a day, and then take in to account how much they cost, you find that makeup removing wipes are uncomfortably expensive. They are so handy at night when I am taking off my makeup because they make sure I get all of the impurities off of my face before I go to bed. I found a way to make my own makeup remover pads for just pennies and I am excited to try them out! Here is how to make them:


Ingredients:DIY_makeup_remover_pads_coconut_oil_deep_facial_cleansing_routine_Biore_2


  • 1 cup of water

  • 1 ½ tbsp. baby shampoo

  • 1/8 tsp oil of your choice (coconut oil, olive oil, baby oil, etc.)

  • Round cotton pads

  • Small jar with a lid

Mix the shampoo, water, and oil together in a cup. Pour a little bit of this mixture into the jar you will be storing the makeup pads in. Place the round cotton pads on top of the solution you just poured into the jar and press down on them to make sure they are getting wet. Repeat this step until the jar is full of damp makeup pads. If you have any of the liquid left over save it for when you need to make more makeup remover pads! Like I said before, these pads are super cheap and easy to make and will last you muuuuuch longer than the pricey ones you buy at the store.

When don’t do much international travel, but when I do I have a love hate relationship with it. I love traveling and having new experiences and seeing new things, but I DON’T love the long process of getting from point A to point B. In order to make the most of my international travels, I follow these handy travel tips to help me arrive feeling my best.


  1. Fuel yourself up: In-flight food isn’t always the best, and it is crazy expensive, so get a nice healthy meal before you board your plane. It is so worth it! Also, pack healthy snacks like nuts or dried fruit or granola bars so that you don’t load up on junk during the flight. You will feel so much more energized after healthy snacking!images (1)

  2. Prepare to freshen up: I always pack a small travel sized makeup bag in my carry on with me that I can pull out throughout my day of travel. It has a toothbrush and toothpaste, makeup wipes, deodorant, and other items that can help me feel fresh after a long day of travel. Feeling fresh while traveling makes it way more bearable!

  3. If possible, carry on all your luggage: I know, it is hard to pack all of your essentials into carry on luggage, but try your hardest! Nothing is worse than finding out your luggage has been lost when you arrive at your destination. It will also save you tons of time because you can avoid waiting for your luggage later on! You can walk off the plane and straight to your car.

  4. Drink Up: You will likely be given a small cup of water during your flight, but that isn’t going to cut it. Bring an empty water bottle with you and fill it up once you get passed security. Airplanes dry you out because of the circulated air, and traveling can be exhausting, so keeping yourself hydrated will keep you energized and awake.

Summer is the perfect time to get a group of friends together and check something off your bucket list.  Road trips aren’t hard to plan.  All you need is a little money, a map, and good company to explore with!  If you’re down for the adventure, here are some hacks to make your trip a little easier and more enjoyable!


  • Take a phone adapter.  Since we’re all guilty of relying on our phones for directions, it’s necessary to keep it charged!  Adapters aren’t too expensive and can be extremely useful.

  • Download Gas Buddy on your smartphone.  This app is genius for long car rides!  It detects your location and lists all the nearby gas stations along with their prices.  This way you can easily find the cheapest place to fill up!

  • Download Venmo, too!  This app helps you split prices and totals between you and your friends, which is helpful when getting gas, meals, or supplies.Chelsea Crockett - Road Trip Map

  • Make or buy a portable trashcan.  There are plenty of ways you can do so, and it’ll come in handy more than you think!

  • Use a shower caddy to store all of your emergency car tools/fluids.  You never know when these could be useful!  A shower caddy will keep all of your supplies separated and organized.

  • Buy or print out a map to plan out your stops and must-see destinations.  This is the fun part!  Circle or star all of the places you plan on visiting, and connect the dots to find your best route!

I love candy. That’s a fun fact about me. My favorite kind of candy, though, is sour candy. I have a weakness for everything sour, from gummy worms and beyond. I found a way to mix my love for soNational-Gummy-Worm-Day-2014ur candy with a refreshing way to stay cool this summer. Introducing sour gummy worm popsicles!


Ingredients:


  • Your favorite fruit juice

  • Sour gummy worms

Grab your favorite popsicle molds and get to work. Add worms to the molds and press them towards the bottom and sides of the molds. Freeze the molds ahead of time to help the worms stick better. Next, pour in your fruit juice of choice. Freeze these pops overnight, then take out and enjoy! Every bite is filled with fruity, sour goodness!

During summer, it seems that all of the hype revolves around pricey brands and products that empty out your wallet.  You have to save up your money and then spend most of it on one product.  I’ve taken note of the most popular trending products and put together a “look for less” guidebook so you can save money but still be up to date with the cutest trends!


  • Birkenstocks.  Don’t get me wrong, these shoes have become a major trend.  Chelsea Crockett - Triangl SwimsuitBut each pair is usually around $100!  Kohl’s, Payless, Target, etc. all sell sandals with the same exact styles as Birkenstocks for prices as cheap as $15!

  • Triangl Swimsuits.  These swimsuits can be super pricey but tons of stores have started coming out with similar styles!  Target, Victoria’s Secret, and several online stores are all good places to look.

  • Rayban Sunglasses.  Raybans are usually very long-lasting, high-quality products, but if you want a cheap pair with a similar wayfarer or aviator style, check out Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, or H&M.

  • Ripped/boyfriend Jeans.  Although it’s useful to invest in a good pair of jeans, you may just want a pair to wear every once in a while.  Forever 21 sells quality jeans for much cheaper than other stores like American Eagle or Express.

  • Boho Jewelry.  Jewelry that has a Boho feel to it isn’t very hard to find!  My favorite places to look are Francesca’s and Urban Outfitters.

Working out alone has its positives and negatives. The positives are that it is a great time to have some “me time” and time to think, but the negatives are that sometimes you can lose your motivation and let the voice in your head say “You’ve worked out enough, you can just stop.” That isn’t always a good thing. It is easy to lose your motivation to keep going when you are alone, but I am going to give you a few tips on how to finish your workout strong and keep going.


  1. Start small: When I am running and I start to think to myself that I want to stop and walk or that I don’t need to run as far as I was planning, I always try to pick a goal. I will tell myself to run past the next tree, and then once I pass that tree I will pick a new landmark and make it my goal to run past it. Have small personal goals so it is easier to reach them.images

  2. Look straight ahead: Studies actually show that when you focus your sight in front of you on a target you are able to run faster while feeling less tired. You are able to push through a workout more when you are focused on a single point. When you are doing squats, stare straight ahead and you will be able to do more!

  3. Keep track: Record all of your workout times/running times/how many reps you do of certain things. Then try to beat them! You will enjoy the challenge of trying to beat your old numbers, and it will distract you from wanting to quit!

  4. Keep it short: If you have a hard time keeping motivated during longer workouts, cut back the amount of time you exercise. Push yourself harder for a shorter time. Intervals are good exercises for this sort of thing, where you go all out for a minute, then go easy for three minutes. You repeat this over and over for a shorter period of time. Or do pyramid workouts!

I know it can be hard to stay motivated when working out alone, but try these tips out and see if they help!

Romans 8:18 says “The pain that you’ve been feeling can’t compare to the joy that’s coming.” This verse, to me, is one of the most encouraging verses I know.romans


It basically says that all of the pain that you have been going through, all of the heartache or sadness, cannot compare to all

of the joy that is ahead in your life! God tells us that there will be hard times as well as good times in this life, but those hard times are nothing compared to all of the joy that is in store for you! When we think about all of the pain and sadness that comes into our lives or that may be happening to us right now, it can make us depressed and doubt God’s goodness. But we should never doubt God’s plan for us and never turn our back on Him, because He has big plans for your life, and they are better than you can imagine!


So, when you are going through a tough time and feel down, just remember that this pain is small compared to all of the joy that is coming!

I’ve always loved a good pool party. Nothing says “summer” like a pool full of family or friends! If you have a pool and you are wanting to throw a killer pool party, there are a few essentials to make the experience as easy and as memorable as possible! Your guests won’t want to leave!


  1. Fun pool floaties: I am sure you have seen photos of your favorite celebs floating around in pools on big swan or flamingo floaties. Well, bring those inflatables to your pool!   2. Twinkly lights: Run twinkly Christmas lights around your deck or pool area. That way at night you can flip on the lights and have a cool whimsical vibe.

  3. A Bluetooth speaker: This is definitely an essential in my book! I love having tunes playing when I am swimming with friends. It sets a fun, carefree mood. Having a Bluetooth speaker allows you to be able to have your phone anywhere and still play music since it doesn’t have to plug into the speaker.

  4. Fun beverages: I’m talking pink lemonade, root beer, Kool Aid, the works! Have a few pitchers of cool drinks made so that people can refresh in the tastiest way possible.

  5. Fresh fruit: My favorite poolside snack is a big slice of watermelon. It is cool and refreshing which makes it the perfect summertime snack! Have some fresh fruit sliced and ready to go so your friends can munch away.

Pool parties are one of the best things about summer, wouldn’t you agree?

They can weigh it down, make it dull and lifeless, and unhealthy! A simple way to detox your hair involves only two things: your favorite shampoo and sea salt! Sea salt is full of minerals. It removes dead skin cells, dirt and product from your hair and de-greases it without stripping the natural oils from it! Is your hair in need of a boost? Try out this easy detox!


Mix 3 parts course sea salt with 2 parts shampoo together and wash your hair with it.  If your hair is in need of a little moisture, add in some coconut oil! Wash your hair with the mixture and then thoroughly rinse with cool water. Now, this shampoo is not to use as your everyday shampoo. Just use it once a month or so to detox your hair and give it a fresh start. Using the mixture too often may dry your hair and scalp!

You may think that sun protection is as simple as putting on sunscreen and BAM, you are protected. There are a lot of sunscreen myths out there, and I am about to clear them up for you so that you can be sure you are doing what you need to keep your skin safe this summer.Products_Banana_Boat_Sport_Performance_Sunscreen


Myth #1: You only need sunscreen when it is sunny out. Even when it is a cloudy day, that doesn’t mean you are being shielded from the sun’s rays! UV light comes through the clouds and rain, so don’t skimp on lathering on the SPF!


Myth #2: SPF 100 sunscreen blocks everything. Just because it says SPF 100 doesn’t mean it blocks 100% of the sun’s rays! SPF is the number that reflects the amount of time you can stay in the sun, so it is recommended that you reapply every 2 hours.


Myth #3: If you have a tan, don’t worry about burns. Not true! Tans are a sign that your skin has been damaged by the sun, so it is vital that you reapply sunscreen often.


Now that you know some truths about sunscreen, you can protect your skin the right way this summer.

Summer Camp Essentials

Packing for summer camp can be tough.  Depending on how long you’ll be there, you’ll need to have a packing list of all your camp essentials.  There are certain things that you may not even realize you need but can be very helpful and make your camp life a lot easier!  Here are some things to make sure you include on your packing list! 🙂


  • Bug spray.  This is crucial!  Getting eaten up by a bunch of mosquitos on the first day of camp will make the rest of your experience much worse (and lots itchier!).

  • Disposable camera.  If you’re not allowed to have your phones, taking a disposable camera is a good way to still capture the memories (especially if you can’t have any electronics!).Chelsea Crockett - Camp Essentials

  • Rain jacket.  Weather can often be very unpredictable.  Pack a rain jacket and maybe even rain shoes for those rainy camp days.

  • Ziploc/plastic bags.  Sometimes your clothes will get dirty or wet.  Take some disposable bags to store any wet swimsuits, muddy shirts, etc.

  • Deck of cards/board game.  Once again, the weather may not be perfect!  Take a deck or cards and your favorite board games to play when boredom strikes.

  • Labels.  You may want to consider doing this before you leave.  Label anything that might get mixed up with other campers’ such as phone chargers, shampoo, face wash, etc.

Choker DIYs

Many of the popular trends from last century are starting to make their way back into the fashion world.  One of which is chokers, which have started to appear in stores and sold by various brands across the board.  You may want a specific choker that you can’t find online or in stores, so… why not make it yourself?


If you like simple, create your own ribbon choker.  This is probably the easiest way to make your own necklace!  Just purchase some black ribbon, whatever you prefer, and measure its length to fit around your neck.  You can either make it a little longer and tie it behind your neck or you can fasten it together with a mini safety pin.  How quick and easy is that?Chelsea Crockett - Chokers


For me, I like to add a little more to my choker such as beads or dangles.  You can find these at most craft stores!  Pick out your initial, your favorite animal, etc.  Customize it as you wish!  You’ll also need a thin black ribbon or thick string to slide your bead onto.  If you want a super simple way to keep it on, just tie a small bow behind your neck.  Your hair will most likely cover it!

Between work, your social life, and lack of sleep your body can take a beating. Giving yourself a break and letting yourself relax will help keep you sane. By looking for the signs that show that our bodies are needing rest and might want to shake some things up, we can stay happier, healthier and more in love with life each day. Here are eleven things to look for in deciding when to take a breather.


  1. Work is life: Don’t let the “workaholic” culture get the best of you! Being motivated to work hard and perform well is

    great, but you also need to give yourself a break for downtime. This allows your mind and body to recoup and makes you a better worker.

  2. You feel like you are exhausted: Having a crazy schedule can make you feel exhausted. Try and go to bed at a decent time, and listen to your body when it tells you “hey, I am tired, take a break”.

  3. You feel emotional: Signs that you have pushed yourself too far are that you are irritable, panicked, cant sleep well, and have a different appetite. When your body is fatigued it affects your hormones and mood, which affect everyone around you.

When you start to feel burned out, mentally and physically, it is a sign that you need to take a breather. Take a break and have some “me time”, it will make you happier and healthier and will lead you to a more well-balanced life.

This verse speaks directly to today’s “see it to believe it” culture. We focus on looks, success, money, fame, popularity, all sorts of temporary lifely pleasures. The Bible tells us to focus what on what is unseen rather than what is seen. It tells us to focus on our faith, our friendships, our relationship with God, and other things that are not temporary but are everlasting. What is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. God wants us to focus on what matters most in life and what will bring us the most joy and fulfillment, which is a relationship with Him, not more clothing or popularity.


Focus on what is unseen, for the temporary things in life are, well, temporary! God’s love never ends.
