Why Modest is Hottest

As a teenage girl in the 21^st century I am sure you have heard the phrase “modest is hottest.” Sometimes it is your mom when you come out of your room wearing shorts that are a wee bit too short, or other times it is your youth pastor preaching to you on the importance of modesty. But why IS modest hottest? And what does it really mean to dress modestly?

When I say “modesty” I mean dressing in a way that is classy and covers what it needs to. It isn’t revealing or distracting and is tasteful. In the media we often see women dressed in revealing clothes and they are glorified for it. They maintain perfect bodies to be shown off in these immodest clothes. Girls, I urge you to not idolize these women. These women are not women to look up to. Women like Sadie Robertson who dress with class and are still super famous and well-loved, these are people to look up to. The way you dress tells people a lot about you. By wearing clothes that aren’t too short, too tight, or too revealing you are showing people that you respect your body. Also, we are more than bodies to be looked at. When you wear revealing clothes to get the attention of others, it feeds into the lie that our bodies are who we are and what is important about us, not what is on the inside. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” This verse tells us that are bodies do not belong to us, they belong to God, so therefore we need to take care of them and show them off in ways that respect Him. They were bought by Jesus dying on the cross. Glorify God in the way you dress by showing others that you don’t have to dress like Hollywood models to look pretty.

You are capable of much more than dressing pretty.
