You did it! You landed a job interview. Now that you’ve got that accomplished, it is time to think about what you are going to wear! There are a lot of variables to keep in mind, like how the job you are interviewing for should influence what you wear, and how you shouldn’t dress too fashion forward because you want to be the star of the interview, not your handbag. There is one aspect that a lot of people overlook, and that is color. Different colors send different messages. What IS the best color to wear to a job interview? Read on to find out.

Safe choices:

1. Blue: blue is a safe choice. Shades of blue send a message that you are trustworthy and credible, according to experts. It inspires confidence!
2. Gray: if you want to send a message that you are logical and responsible, wear gray! If you want to add personality to a gray interview outfit, wear colored accessories like a purse of scarf.
3. White: white sends the message that you pay attention to details and that you are organized. A white blazer over a black dress or a white button down with a black skirt is a great, professional way to work white into your interview apparel.

Stay away from:

1. Red: red shows power, but not in a good way. Studies show that people in charge of hiring say if you wear red to an interview, it can make you come across as aggressive and rebellious.
2. Brown: brown can send the message that you are simple and old-fashioned, so if you are interviewing for a job where creativity and forward-thinking are required, brown is not a good choice of clothing color.
3. Orange: studies show this is the absolute worst color to wear to an interview. They say it is an unprofessional color!
