How to Survive Life"s Seasons

Life is all about seasons. No, not “summer spring fall” seasons, LIFE seasons. Seasons like grade school, high school, college, your first job, marriage, the death of a family member, all big life events that come and go but can be categorized as a “season” in our life. Each season is different and presents different challenges. For instance, my life’s season right now is the “graduated high school and moving out” season. This season is filled with uncertainty, sadness because I will be moving away from my family, and nerves, but it is also filled with excitement, anticipation, and joy. I have a bit of advice on how to stay calm, keep your cool, and keep a healthy mindset during life’s toughest seasons. Read on.

  1. Take a few minutes to rest: Don’t underestimate the power of a few minutes of rest. It may seem like a waste of time, but five or ten minutes of sitting with your eyes closed and turning off your brain is so refreshing. Snatch up every minute of rest that you can.
  2. Try to be in the middle of something all the time: What I mean is, try to be in the middle of a great TV series or a good book or a fun movie. When you are in the middle of something you are tempted to finish it. This practically forces you to take time for yourself. And you should let yourself do it! It gives you something to look forward to and gives you an outlet for some “me time.”ae644503a1e81ca13ea4a95c694a5115
  3. Learn how to ignore things: Now these things don’t include your mom or homework, but they do include text messages and other nonessential tasks. When you are in the midst of your busiest seasons, life gets overwhelming, and a messy room, a phone full of unanswered texts, or a dirty car can send you over the edge and make you feel like your whole life is out of control. Take a deep breath and realize that these things don’t really matter. Your messy room can stay messy for one more day. Take the time that you would have spent cleaning it and close your eyes and rest. You need to keep yourself rested and healthy. Once your season calms down, that is the time to tackle that messy room and dirty car.

Making use of these practices can help you to stay afloat in the stormier seasons of life, when you may not be able to feel truly rested. No matter what your circumstances, it’s important to be good to yourself and strap on that proverbial oxygen mask so you can breathe a little easier.

These are just a few ways I keep my head on straight and my mind at ease during my life’s crazy seasons. How do YOU handle yours?

XOXO, Chels
