Just like you need to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays, you need to protect your precious locks! You wear sunscreen to ward off harmful UV rays and wear hats to cover your face because you know how important it is, and the same goes for protecting your hair. Here are the best ways to prevent permanent sun damage to your hair.

1. Use sunblock: For your hair! Yes, it is a “thing.” You can make your own DIY hair sunscreen by combining one tablespoon of sunblock with a cup of water in a spray bottle and spritzing it all over your locks. The sun can burn your hair just like it burns your skin, so be mindful of that!
2. Accessorize: My favorite, and the most easy way to protect your hair. Wear a headwrap, scarf, or a sunhat over your hair when you are exposed to the sun’s rays. Not only will it protect against damage, you will also look super cute!
3. Deep condition: Before a day at the beach or out in the sun, work a deep conditioner into wet hair and don’t rinse it. This will keep your hair from frying and drying out as well as protect it against damaging rays.
4. Wear heat protectant: You can use the same heat protectant you use before curling or flat ironing your hair before you head out into the sun!

It is important to protect your skin AND hair from the sun this summer. It will save you a ton of damage and will keep your body happy and healthy.
