Breaking up with a boyfriend is hard, but breaking up with a best friend is even harder. Sometimes, it is just time to let them go. People change and can grow apart, and sometimes that can be a sign that it is time for the relationship to end. It is just a healthy part of life. Although it is tough, there is a time in most people’s lives when they have to say goodbye to their best friend and move on to bigger and better things. Here are a few signs that you and your bff should part ways.

1. When you are the second choice: When you realize that you only get asked to hang out when their other friends aren’t available, you know you aren’t their priority anymore. True best friends keep in touch and never make you feel like you are a last resort.
2. When they aren’t happy for your success: When you succeed in life and have big accomplishments, your bff is the first one to congratulate you. If your best friend is more jealous of your success than they are happy for you, then it may be time to cut them loose.
3. You are the only one making an effort: Friendships are two-sided. If you are the only one making an effort to hang out or make plans or stay in touch, then they may be trying to tell you they’ve moved on.
4. When you feel like you have to hang out with them: If you feel obligated rather than excited to hang out with them, that’s no bueno. Your bff is the person you are supposed to have fun and enjoy life with, not someone who makes you want to make up excuses not to hang out.

Friendships don’t have to be forever, and ending them can be healthy!
