The Importance of Mission Work

As you all know, I’m very involved in my church. I absolutely love going on different youth trips whether it’s to camp or even mission work! Mission work is a great way to serve a community while also spreading the word of God. This summer I’m fortunate enough to get to go on a mission trip all the way in Alaska. A lot of people ask me why I’m going and don’t understand the importance of it. Well… here is my answer!

Mission work doesn’t have to be in another country or state. It can simply be in the community you live in. Sometimes very passionate missionaries travel to third world countries for their work. But for us teenagers, it can be hard to raise money and find the time to do so. Another misconception is that you may be too young to actually do work along with your mission. Simply proclaiming the gospel to those who may not know it is all you need to do!

There are two verses that clear up any confusion about mission work. Matthew 28:19 says “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit…” 1 Peter 3:15 says “but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence…” Both of these verses indicate that we should tell anyone and everyone our testimonies and how they can be saved, too.

So go tell your neighbors, your friends, anyone who needs to know! You don’t have to be in a different state to do so!
