Sometimes it can be hard to know when to replace your beauty products. You may be using the same mascara for a few months and think “Hmmmm, I wonder if it is time to put this tube to rest…”. Here is a quick and easy guide to your everyday beauty products, and when they need to be replaced and kicked to the curb.

1. Makeup sponges: 1 month


2. Mascara: 3 months


3. Eyeliner: 6 months to a year


4. Foundation: 1 year


5. Lip stick: 1 year


6. Nail polish- 1 year


7. Powder makeup: 12-18 months


8. Eyeshadow: 1-2 years


9. Blush: 1-2 years


10. Makeup brushes: 5 years

It is really important to replace your beauty products in these time frames because bacteria and germs can grow on your brushes and makeup and cause infection, which is no bueno! So take a peek at your makeup drawer and decide which items have met their match and can be put to rest in the good ole trash can.

It is always a sad day when my mascara finally runs out. I feel like I am wasting a perfectly good tube! That is why I was so happy to find these three uses for old mascara wands! What a shame to put a perfectly good mascara brush to waste. Here are they are!

1. Eyebrow brush: Some mornings I wake up and my eyebrows have decided to go all “Albert Einstein” on me and spaz out. So, that is where my old mascara wand comes in handy. After the wand is completely cleaned of all old mascara, I use the wand to brush and style my brows.


2. Separating lashes: Some days my lashes are total bffs; they stick together. And some days, that is NOT what I want. I want my lashes to look full, so I take my old mascara wand and comb out my eyelashes.


3. Tame flyaway hairs: Do you ever have those times where your hair just wants to stand up straight on top of your head and do its own thing? Well your old clean mascara wand is here to be your crazy-hair tamer! Spray a bit of hairspray onto the wand and comb it over the unruly hairs.
