Best Bangs for your Face

Best Bangs for your Face
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Best-Bangs-for-your-Face-Shape.jpg

I have mad respect for anyone who can pull off bangs. Like seriously, you were brave enough to try bangs, and they look great on you! My fear is that if I get bangs I am going to hate them and have to wait agonizingly long for them to grow back. Luckily there are wise people out there that know exactly what bangs look best for your face shape to save you the heartache of bad bangs. Here is a guide to which bangs are best for your face!

  1. Round: If you have a round-ish face, sideswept bangs are a great style to try out. Wearing long, layered bangs can help face_shapesoften your wider cheeks, and wearing trendy blunt, straight-across bangs can actually add some length to your face!
  2. Square: If you have this face shape, you are in good company! Heidi Klum has this shape. Longer, eye-grazing bangs that are thin and layered are best. Avoid super blunt, fringy bangs or you will appear to have a box-shaped face!
  3. Heart-shaped: Short, sideswept bangs work best for this shape! They help draw attention to your eyes.
  4. Oval: Gals with this shape are lucky! You can wear just about any bang shape. If you have thicker hair, fringy bangs are great, and if you have thinner hair face framing bangs are best.

Before you hop on the bang train, keep these shape suggestions in mind!

New York Fashion Week 2016

New York Fashion Week 2016
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/nyfw-chelsea-.jpeg

New York Fashion Week F/W16 has come to an end.  The biggest models in the world and top fashion bloggers came together to celebrate all things fashion.  While some shows were full of glitter and glamour, others were just straight-up crazy!  From the world of Jeremy Scott to Oscar de la Renta gowns, this year’s fashion week was anything but ordinary.  While I did not attend, I kept up with all of the shows online!  Check out a few of my favorite moments!  Chelsea Crockett- fw16

Diane Von Furstenberg’s show was one of my favorites.  She nicked the traditional runway and opted for a disco of strong, powerful women.  DVF gathered the world’s top models including Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Karlie Kloss and had them dressed in her always timeless pieces dancing around her studio.  DVF wanted to show that women in power can have fun too; and don’t worry, her fun, signature patterns were still included!

Marc Jacobs transformed a NY theatre into the Marc Jacobs F/W16 premiere!  The show was nothing short of amazing.  It included popcorn, ushers, and a movie screen showcasing Marc Jacobs signature trademark.  This was a transition for the brand with the dissolution of Marc by Marc Jacobs.  The brand was debuting their new look, while still keeping the Marc by Marc Jacobs prices.

These two shows were just a few of my favorites from this years Fall/Winter NYFW!  Maybe next year I’ll snag a ticket! 😉

5 Tips to Prepare for Prom

5 Tips to Prepare for Prom
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Chelsea-Crockett-Tips-for-Prom.jpg
Since I’ve been to a couple proms, I understand how overwhelming and stressful it can be! Making sure everything is perfect can get exhausting, especially when things don’t always go your way. So… here are a few tips to help you stay on track for a successful night with friends!

  1. First and foremost... you have to find the perfect dress!  Along with your dress, you have to find the shoes that will compliment it. Jewelry comes next.  Look for that elegant pair of earrings or necklace you"ve been dying to buy. Make sure to find everything at least a month in advance. This will save you so much stress and give you enough time to put together your look.Chelsea Crockett - Prom Makeup

  2. Now it"s time to schedule some appointments!  With prom season....hair, makeup, and nail appointments fill up fast so be sure to call early.  After you schedule, go online and look for your favorite hairdo, makeup combo, and nail design. Be sure to take pictures with you so your specialist knows just what you"re looking for!

  3. If you have a large group going together, you"ll want to start up some group chats and look into renting a party bus or limousine to drive you around.  Someone in the group will need to make phone calls to get prices from these companies and see what your group can afford!

  4. You have your dress and tux colors so now it"s time to call your local florist and get your date his boutonnière.  You may want to drop some subtle hints to make sure he"s ordered your corsage :).

  5. Last, but not least, plan to get together with some of your friends on the date of the big day. Have your friends over for some appetizers while you all get ready together.  After all, prom will be one of your most memorable nights in all of high school!

Have fun! - Chelsea

Guide to the Perfect Prom Hairdo

Guide to the Perfect Prom Hairdo
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Chelsea-Crockett-Prom-Hairdos.jpg
Ahhh, prom… The one night us girls look forward to the minute we start high school. It isn’t easy finding the perfect dress, the perfect date, the perfect shoes, etc. But what can be made easy is finding the perfect hairstyle to top off your look! Here’s a little guide I put together to hopefully make your prom a little less stressful!

Sometimes a big, sparkly dress needs a simple hairstyle to balance the look. A style, like the one on the left, is one of my favorite styles I’ve seen on Pinterest. This do is elChelsea Crockett - Prom Hairstyleegant and looks good on strapped or strapless dresses. Add a pair of dangle earrings and complete your ensemble with a gorgeous pair of heels :).

Another look that many girls don’t think to go for is a messy braid. You might be thinking, “I want my hair to look anything but messy,” but I promise it’s not what you’re thinking! I suggest this look for girls with longer hair. The way I’d go about this is doing a partial French braid, starting down the back of your head. Then tease your hair and leave some strands of hair hanging around the frame of your face. Just play with it until you find the perfect look!

Up-dos are often the go-to look for prom but why not be different and leave your gorgeous locks down? Depending on the person, middle parts can be hard, and sometimes awkward, to pull off. In my opinion, middle parts are more formal and can be dressed up! Try it out a couple days before your prom day to make sure this look works on you.

Step out of your comfort zone and try something new for prom! Have fun insiders :).

Easter: The Reason for the Season

Easter: The Reason for the Season
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Chelsea-Crockett-Easter1.jpg

It’s easy to get caught up in all the hype of the holidays.  Heaps and heaps of food, chocolate bunnies, family, and friends are all part of the Easter experience.  Big family dinners and parties are fun, but unfortunately, too many families celebrate Easter without thinking about the true reason for the season…Jesus!Chelsea Crockett- Easter

The Easter bunny may be the symbol of Easter, but it is not why we celebrate it.  We celebrate Easter to glorify the resurrection of Jesus!  Three days after Jesus died on the cross for our sins, he rose again to promise everyone everlasting life.  That’s pretty amazing, right?  Whether you’re attending an Easter party or having a big family brunch, do not forget about what Jesus did for us.  Thank Him for the amazing mercy he had for all of us!

“And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.” – 1 John 2:25

I hope everyone has the happiest Easter ever!

How to Start a Productive Week

How to Start a Productive Week
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/chelsea-crockett-how-to-start-a-productive-week-.jpg

Sunday afternoons after church are the ultimate lazy day, especially when it is cold and rainy or snowy. It is the end of the weekend, and after a long week at school all I want to do is take a nap! But, in order to get the most out of the week ahead, there are a few things you can do on your Sunday afternoon. I love feeling prepared for the upcoming week because it helps me know everything I have going on and makes me feel in control! Here are 5 things that are helpful to do on Sundays that will prepare you for a productive week and put your mind at ease.

  1. Set weekly goals: Do you have important tasks or goals for your week? Write them down so you can feel accomplished when you cross them off! They can be simple things like “do 2 loads of laundry” or even “write blog post for website” ;).
  2. Clean up: Starting your week off with clean sheets on your bed, a clean room, and a clean bathroom does wonders. Feeling clean and clutter free is an awesome feeling, and one of the best things ever is falling asleep in clean sheets. Hang up your clean clothes and put the dirty ones in a wad on the floor into the hamper!Screen-Shot-2015-02-23-at-3.22.02-PM
  3. Pack up: Get your backpack, purse, and lunch (if you bring your lunch) ready for the morning ahead. Monday mornings are usually rough, so having everything ready to go will get you off to a good start.
  4. Write your daily to-do’s: Because of my crazy work/school schedule, I need to write everything down that is going on so I don’t forget anything. Writing out my daily agenda for the week helps me visualize everything I have going on and plan accordingly.
  5. Outfit plan: Check the weather for the next day and lay out your outfit. If you are feeling adventurous, plan out the next few days as well!

What do YOU do on Sundays to get your week off to a smooth start? Comment below!

XOXO, Chels

Top 4 Face Masks from Sephora

Top 4 Face Masks from Sephora
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Sephora-Face-Masks.jpg

Sephora is the go-to hub of all things makeup and beauty. I recently stumbled upon an article that highlights four main face masks that are great for smoother and clearer skin. You can find each of these products at Sephora… Chelsea Crockett - Mud Maskcould you’ve guessed? Here’s a little insight on why you should totally check them out!

  • Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask by Peter Thomas Roth. This mask is made for drawing out impurities as it infuses the skin with vitamins and moisture. It also helps reduce the amount of dirt and oil hiding in your pores.
  • SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment by GLAMGLOW. This clearing treatment gets rid of all those unwanted skin imperfections such as breakouts, discolorations, etc. It contains a 6-acid blend that leaves your skin feeling and looking fresh!
  • Rose Face Mask by Fresh. Apart from it smelling absolutely amazing, this mask works to tone and hydrate your skin. It’s perfect for any skin type and calms the skin by reducing inflammation.
  • Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask by Origins. When it comes to beauty products, I love when they’re infused with charcoal. Charcoal is a great exfoliator and eliminates any dirt or oil stuck in your pores.

Have you tried any of these products? If so, let me know which is your favorite below!

Strobing Vs. Contouring

Strobing Vs. Contouring
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-strobing-vs-contouring.jpg

I am 99% sure most of us are at least a little bit aware of what contouring is. For those who are maybe a little unsure of what it is all about, it involves tons of shading and highlighting using different makeup products to accentuate the curves and lines of your face. Contouring can totally transform your face and change your look. But… it is so darn difficult to do! It takes tons of work and lots of practice to get it down. Let’s face it, we have all tried to contour our faces, only to get half way and look like a clown and give up.  So, what if you want a sculpted face but do not have time (or motivation) to contour? Introducing: strobing.GigiHadid_Strobing_F

Strobing is a new kind of contouring that takes a fraction of the time and effort. Instead of using a darker color and a lighter color to shade your face with makeup, all you use is highlighter. Apply it to the center of your forehead, under your eyebrow bone, your chin, the inner corner of your eyes, and the tip of your nose. It brightens up your face and takes much less work (aka it is harder to mess it up)! You can use a dewy, sheer highlighter or you can make it super easy on yourself and use a highlighter stick. Just find a window and use a mirror to see where the sun naturally hits on your face. Then use highlighter on these spots.

Strobe away!

XOXO, Chels

Holiday Detox

Holiday Detox
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-holiday-detox.jpg

After the major amounts of delicious food I devoured over Thanksgiving and Christmas break, I feel very much like frosty the snowman. Bloated and fluffy. I would MUCH rather feel tight and toned! I was looking for a way to detox all of the guck I ate over break out of my system and start of the year fresh and healthy, and that is when I found this yummy holiday detox!5+Ingredient+Holiday+Detox+Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 1-2 cups of stem-less kale
  • 1 cup apple cider (unsweetened)
  • 1 cup of ice/water
  • Dash of cinnamon

Blend all of these ingredients together until the mixture is smooth. If you want a juice-like texture, use water. If you want more of a smoothie-like drink, go for ice. If you want some extra healthy protein, toss in a handful of your favorite nuts before blending! Just an FIY, the drink will naturally separate as it sits, so there may be a layer of foam at the top of the drink after sitting a while. Just stir it up and drink it down!

Im ready to detox. Are you?

Why You Should Keep Your Room Clean

Why You Should Keep Your Room Clean
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-Why-You-Should-Keep-Your-Room-Clean.jpg

I’ll be the first to admit that, 99% of the time, my room is a hot mess. I have my makeup all spread out on my vanity, my laundry sprawled out on my floor and my bed, dirty dishes on my bed stand, and it is no bueno. I can honestly say, though, that my favorite days are those where my room is clean. I feel so much less stressed! Here are 4 reasons why I keep my room clean.

  1. It looks better: This is a “duh”! Straightening my comforter and pillows and putting everything in its proper place is so much more visually pleasing than having stuff thrown everywhere and the bed half made.when-you-clean-up-your-room
  2. I’m not embarrassed to have people over: I love having friends sleep over, but when my room is a pig sty it is totally embarrassing!
  3. It helps me sleep better: After a long day, coming home to a clean room is so relaxing. I love being able to crawl into a neatly made bed where the sheets aren’t all tangled or scrunched at the bottom of the bed.
  4. I can actually find things: Which means I am more productive and save time by not having to root around for everything! When everything has a rightful place, your room is more likely to stay clean for longer.

Keeping your room clean is just a good rule of thumb. What are some reasons you keep YOUR room clean?

DIY Snow Ice Cream

DIY Snow Ice Cream
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-crockett-diy-snow-ice-cream.jpg

Last week I got a day off of school because of snow and it was awesome! Snow days are the best days, am I right? If you have ever had a snow day, then you probably know about snow ice cream. If not, you’ve been missing out! When life gives you snow, make snow ice cream! It literally takes 5 minutes and is super delish!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milkice-cream
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 8 cups clean snow
  • Sprinkles are optional but highly recommended :)

In a big bowl, whisk the milk, sugar, vanilla and salt together until they are will combined. Go outside and scoop some fresh, clean snow. Immediately stir the snow into the milk mixture until you get your desired consistency. Top it off with sprinkles or any other ice cream toppings! Eat it up quickly because it will melt pretty fast!

Eat up!

How to Forgive and Move On

How to Forgive and Move On
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsesa-crockett-how-to-forgive-and-move-on.jpg

Carrying around resentment and anger is so unhealthy. It is hard to forgive someone who did you wrong, but forgiveness is a powerful thing. Forgiveness is accepting what happened, acknowledging your feelings, and then letting them go. Forgiveness isn’t just for the person who hurt you, it for yourself too. Here is how you know you are ready to forgive and how to do it when the time is right.

  1. Forgive yourself and let go: Give yourself time to release all of the emotions you are feeling and recognize when you are ready. Next, understand that it is ok to feel shame or embarrassment or shame because of what happened. Then forgive yourself. Realize we all make mistakes and that no one is perfect.338672
  2. Talk it out: It doesn’t have to be out loud. Talk through the whole thing in your head. And next time you see the person who hurt you, you don’t have to verbally say “I forgive you” because that may just be plain awkward. You can show them you have forgiven them by your actions instead. But then again, sometimes it is good to verbally talk things through. It may make you feel better if you are able to communicate your hurt to the person but at the same time let them know you have moved past it. It really depends on you and the situation!
  3. Know the boundaries: Forgiving the person doesn’t mean things are going back to the way they used to be. That may take time, or it may never happen. Setting boundaries like limiting the amount of time you spend with that person, or avoiding certain situations that you know could be trouble is wise. Avoid falling back into the cycle that caused the hurt and know how to avoid it.

Forgiving someone takes a lot of humility and it takes a strong person. It isn’t easy, but it is so worth it.

Can"t Sleep? Use These Tips to Beat Your Insomnia!

Can"t Sleep? Use These Tips to Beat Your Insomnia!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Chelsea-Crockett-Insomnia.jpg

At our age, sleep can make or break how our days unfold. Between editing videos and scheduling plans, sleep isn’t the first priority on my busy list. And when I get the opportunity, it’s often hard falling asleep with thoughts whirling through my head. Anybody else know the feeling? Here are some tips to beat your insomnia!Chelsea Crockett - Stressed quote

  • Stress is often the number one cause of insomnia. Take a deep breath and think of all of the good things in your life. Remember that what you’re stressing about probably won’t matter in a year or maybe even a week!
  • Lavender scent is proven to relieve stress and make you calmer and more relaxed. Apart from burning a lavender scented candle, you can buy (or even make!) your own lavender scented spray to mist your pillows and blankets with. It might not solve all of your problems, but it might put you at ease!
  • A lot of sites say that this tip actually works! Instead of using your bed for a place to do homework, watch TV, binge-watch Netflix, etc., use it solely for sleeping. That way your brain and body can use it as a signal for sleep. It may not work for you but it’s worth a try!
  • If you’ve been lying in bed for a while and can’t fall asleep, try doing a quiet activity that allows your brain and body to calm down. Reading is a great alternative for checking Twitter or Instagram. This way you’re not staring at a bright screen.

I hope these tips help you catch up on some much needed sleep!

XO - Chelsea

The Look for Less: Makeup Edition

The Look for Less: Makeup Edition
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Drugstore-Makeup.jpg

We all know the look for less, when you find an outfit from a celebrity or simply a look that’s out of your price range and find a cheaper ensemble that’s almost identical. I had an idea to do the same thing but with makeup! There are so many drugstore products that give you the same result as higher end products. Chelsea Crockett - NYX Lip CremeWho doesn’t love a good steal?

For lip sticks, most higher end brands have the same long-wearing quality as drugstore products. For example, Maybelline has amazing lip products that give the perfect color to your lips. If you like buying makeup at Target, check out the NYX products they offer! Their soft matte lip cream is my favorite lip product, and it’s only $5.99!

Eye products are another category that you can find much cheaper products with just as good of quality. Maybelline mascara is always my go-to when it comes to my lashes. It’s inexpensive but gives off the same effect as a high-end branded mascara from Ulta or Sephora. Eyeshadow can also be a steal! Wet n’ Wild offers $0.99 individual eyeshadows in a variety of different colors. Check them out!

Apart from actual makeup, tools such as brushes, eyebrow combs, etc. can be found for super cheap at drugstores. The brand e.l.f. sells a variety of brushes for only $0.99! You can’t get much better than that.

I hope this helped you save a little bit of money next time you go makeup shopping :)!

Protein Rice Crispy Treats

Protein Rice Crispy Treats
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-protein-rice-crispy-treats.jpg

After workouts, I usually have the serious munchies. Like, I could probably eat half a pizza and polish off a box of Girl Scout cookies. But that is totally normal after working out! You just worked off calories and energy, so now your body is craving more! Here is a healthy take on a yummy snack: protein rice crispy treats! They are a great easy snack to take with you and eat on your way home from the gym to keep you from grabbing the first morsel of food you see when you get home.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup vanilla protein powderIMG_1731-1024x790
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 drop butterscotch flavor
  • 2 drops marshmallow root extract
  • 1 cup protein marshmallow fluff (recipe here)
  • 1-2 cups crispy brown rice cereal

Mix the protein powder and water until it is smooth. Add the butterscotch and marshmallow root flavors, then mix well. Fold in the marshmallow fluff, then fold in the cereal. Make sure they are mixed well, then press into a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze them for about an hour to make them harden,  then cut into pieces and eat up! Store them in the freezer in a Ziploc bag for easy snacking.

These treats are so much better for you than regular rice crispy treats. Satisfy your sweet tooth and your protein intake, all at once!

XOXO, Chels

As young women, we try our hardest to be strong, brave, and independent. We want to be our own person that’s able to stand up for what we believe in. Yet this seems almost impossible to do in a society full of standards and expectations. I know how hard it can be, so I put together 10 steps on how to become more strong-minded.

  1. Keep control. Having control over yourself in situations allows you to respond confidently, without worrying or overthinking.
  2. Focus on the positives. Ever since I started keeping a positive mindset, I’m able to control my thoughts and attitude. It makes a bigger difference than you think!Chelsea Crockett - Strong Minded Quote
  3. Think ahead. If you focus on what’s in front of you, then you won’t have time to worry about the little things.
  4. Don’t stress about the past. Worrying about what’s said and done is pointless. Make progress by living in the now!
  5. Accept other’s success. Comparing yourself to others will never satisfy you. Be happy for them and rid yourself of jealousy.
  6. Embrace change. Change will happen throughout your life. Knowing how to accept it with an open mind is comforting!
  7. Build confidence. Confidence is key! Feeling strength and self-assurance will change your whole view on things.
  8. Set goals and reward yourself. Achieving goals you set your mind to is one of the best feelings ever. See if you can and reward yourself!
  9. Keep a good perspective. This goes hand in hand with focusing on the positives. Be content and appreciative of your situation.
  10. Accept your flaws and weaknesses. This step is one of the most important. God made you without mistakes. Each flaw and weakness has a reason behind it!

Write these steps in your planner, in your phone, on your wall… anywhere! Learn to be strong in your decisions and throughout your life!

Love, Chelsea

Relationship Red Flags

Relationship Red Flags
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-relationship-red-flags.jpg

Relationships are fun. Having someone you can talk to and spend time with is always a great feeling. But, have you ever been in a relationship and felt a little uneasy about it? Like, you have a nagging feeling in the back of your mind that something is a little off or just isn’t right. Don’t ignore that feeling! It could be a sign that the relationship isn’t meant to be. Here are 5 red flags to look out for while dating.

  1. They don’t initiate hanging out: One of the worst feelings is when you have to initiate every time you guys hang out. He never asks if you want to do something, you always have to ask. Girls like to be pursued! You having to make every move is a sign that the relationship may be a little one-sided.5-relationship-red-flags-large
  2. They’re always “too busy” or “too tired”: We make time for the people we care about and want to see, and if they are always making excuses for why they can’t hang out, that’s a red flag!
  3. They never pay for anything: Splitting the bill at dinner is totally great, but sometimes it also feels great to be treated to dinner! If you are always splitting or even paying for your dates, things need to be re-evaluated.
  4. They take a day or two to respond to a text: We are all busy, and sometimes it takes me a few hours to respond to text messages, but there is a difference between being too busy to answer and taking forever just because you can. Texting games are no fun! If they can answer the text in a timely manner, they should.
  5. All they want to DO is text: This reminds me of me and my first “boyfriend.” All he wanted to do was text and never wanted to hang out! If you’re dating a guy and he is all talk (or text, for that matter) and no action, dump him. If he won’t hang out with you in person, just text you, that is more like a virtual boyfriend, and that’s not what you signed up for!

So, if you just started dating a guy, or if you have been dating them for a few months, watch out for these red flag warning signs. If your guy does these things, it might be time to show him to the door!

Why to Sleep with Your Hair in a Bun

Why to Sleep with Your Hair in a Bun
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsesa-crockett-why-to-sleep-with-your-hair-in-a-bun.jpg

I have always been told to NEVERRR sleep with my hair up because it can cause breakage and for the hair to be brittle. I sleep in braids sometimes to wake up with wavy hair, and sometimes I go to bed with damp hair and wake up with awkward waves and flat spots. Contrary to popular belief, sleeping with your hair in a bun is actually pretty beneficial. dsc_0171Here is why!

Sleeping in a loose bun will prevent your hair from getting those awkward waves and flat spots mentioned above. It also helps prevent your locks from getting all tangled and frizzy while you sleep because it isn’t rubbing against your pillowcase. Also, sleeping with your hair in a bun can add a bit of extra volume and curl if you add texture cream to your damp locks before tossing them in a topknot and going to sleep. When you wake up you will have loose waves and volumized hair. It’s easier than sleeping in braids because it takes less time!

I may have to start sleeping in a bun! Will you be trying this out?

5 Life Savers During Clothing Catastrophes

5 Life Savers During Clothing Catastrophes
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Chelsea-Crockett-Clothing-Catastrophes.jpg

There are too many times when I have mini panic attacks when dealing with clothing disasters. Maybe you were eating breakfast in your new favorite shirt and spilled food all over it? Or maybe you were brushing your teeth and a toothpaste stain just so happened to appear? Yeah, I know the feeling! Here are 8 different life-savers for when you have a clothing catastrophe!

  1. If you’ve ever accidentally gotten gum on your clothing, then you know how frustrating it is to get it off! Simply take an ice cube and hold it on the gum. The gum should eventually harden, and you can scrape it right off!
  2. If you’ve you gotten water stains on any type of leather, take a toothbrush and dip it in white vinegar. Lightly scrub the stain until you’re water-free!
  3. If you’ve got a sticky zipper that doesn’t want to move, rub some Vaseline or chapstick on it. This should allow it to glide smoothly!Chelsea Crockett - Sweater
  4. Before throwing away old pilling sweaters, buy a package of Velcro hair rollers! Rolling these on top of your old sweaters will get rid of any pilling or loose threads. Don’t give up on your favorite old sweater just yet!
  5. There’s nothing worse than being in a rush and putting on a shirt covered with wrinkles! If you don’t have time to iron, spray it with a winkle-release spray. If you don’t have any at home, you can even make your own homemade! Just Google the recipe and it’ll be at the tip of your fingers.

What other life saving tips do you know? Share with me below so I can try them out!

Late Night Study Sesh Stress Relievers

Late Night Study Sesh Stress Relievers
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Chelsea-Crockett-Studying.jpg

Do you ever have one of those nights where you"re up past midnight and on the edge of a breakdown? Most of you in high school know what I"m talking about!  Late night homework sessions are the worst and can build up endless amounts of stress. I put together some tips to help you relax in your crunch times!

  • Lavender scents are some of my favorites. They"re so relaxing and are scientifically proven to relieve stress. I prefer burning a lavender candle next to where I"m working. Try it out!
  • I"m all about living a healthy lifestyle, but sometimes stress calls for a nice helping of your favorite ice cream! Use it for some motivation or a reward for getting all of your assignments done. Chelsea Crockett - Hot Tea
  • If you"re up late studying, let your mind rest by going to sleep and waking up earlier than you normally do. This way you can still get your studying in and give your brain a break for a little while.
  • While you"re working, make yourself a hot drink to sip on. I suggest a hot cup of tea, either black or green. This will give you a little caffeine to get you through the long hours. It"s also super soothing, too!

What advice would you give someone for late night study sessions? Leave a comment below!

Applying Eye shadow: You"ve Been Doing it All Wrong

Applying Eye shadow: You"ve Been Doing it All Wrong
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-Applying-Eye-shadow-Youve-Been-Doing-it-All-Wrong.jpg

Are you ever stalking a beauty guru on Instagram and you just get mesmerized by their eyeshadow? Like, you’re stuck wondering “how in the world do they shade that so well…and how long did it take them to do that?!” That was me a few years ago, until I asked a fellow beauty blogger what her secret to on-point eyeshadow was. Turns out I was doing it wrong the whole time! Here is how to get perfect shadow every time.

Step 1: Apply eyeshadow primer to your eyelids.Eye-Makeup-Tutorial_Eyeshadow-Horizontal-Gradient-Method_2

Step 2: Use a makeup brush to apply a light shade like nude or gold to your lids.

Step 3: This is where I had it all wrong. To apply the darker shades like brown or black to your creases, keep your eyes open. Yes, open! Brush the darker shadow into your creases and repeat on each eye. The “eye open” method allows you to be able to compare your shadow on each eye because you can see the whole time, plus it helps you keep the natural shape of your eyes! AKA, this helps your makeup look more natural.

Try this eyeshadow trick out for yourself and see if it makes a difference in your shadow skills!

How to Say No

How to Say No
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-how-to-say-no.jpg

Why is saying “no” so hard? Human nature makes us want to please people. If we say “no” we are in danger of being mean, negative, or unhelpful! The last thing we want to do is make someone hurt or angry, so we say yes when we really want to say no. Agreeing to things you don’t want to do can stress you out or make you overwhelmed! To avoid being both, here are a few tips on how to say “no”.

  1. Start and end your statement with a positive: Before you come right out and say no, add in a positive statement. It helps take the focus off of the “no” and can cushion the blow. Starting and ending with a positive can sound like “I’d really love to do this, but I just can’t right now. Keep me in mind next time!”Say-No
  2. Don’t answer right away: Before you answer, let the person know you will get back to them. Take a minute to think about your response to the request. A lot of times we say yes because we are caught up in the moment and want to please them, but by taking a moment to think things through, you can figure out how to respond without offending them or committing to something you don’t want to do.
  3. Just say no: A simple no is a way to firmly get your point across. Don’t get caught up in trying not to disappoint someone. Be prepared can help you deliver your answer in a positive way that helps the receiver not feel offended or negative.

Next time someone approaches you and asks you to do something you aren’t too keen on, be confident, positive, and polite with your “no”! It will go a long way.

Contour Your Face in 5 Minutes

Contour Your Face in 5 Minutes
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-crockett-Contour-Your-Face-in-5-Minutes.jpg

When I think about contouring my face, all I can think about how time consuming it is going to be. That is no longer the case with this brand spankin’ new contouring method that takes only 5 minutes! I’ll tell you all about it.

What you will need: a dark shadow for contouring and a highlighter for highlighting, and a tapered brush or a blusher brush.04-gucci-gifs-loren-12.w529.h352

The key: accentuate the places where shadows normally fall on your face. This place is below your cheekbones, and to accentuate this area use your brush to measure a straight line from your ear to the side of your mouth like you are sucking in your cheeks, then place the contour there.

The method: load up your brush with bronzer or whatever contouring makeup you are using, then brush the excess off on your hand and lightly bring the color along the line you traced on your cheek with your brush earlier. Bring the excess bronzer on the brush up to your temple and blend it to connect it with your hair line.

Next, highlight: Highlight the top of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, under your brow bone, and your cupids bow. Or, if you want to keep your look a little more natural, choose a few to highlight instead of all of them.

Wham bam, you are done! Just simple bronzer and highlighter can do the trick when it comes to a quick contour!

Biblical Tips on How To Avoid Facebook Drama

Biblical Tips on How To Avoid Facebook Drama
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsesa-crockett-Biblical-Tips-on-How-To-Avoid-Facebook-Drama.jpg

Facebook Drama: We have all been involved in it one way or another, whether we were the one who started it or an innocent bystander. Whatever the case, it is never a pleasant experience. As a lover of Jesus I try to hold myself to a code of higher “social media ethics” and take the higher road, but petty arguments, rude comments, and subtweets sometimes test my patience. To avoid the hurt, annoyance, and all around nastiness of Facebook drama, here are 5 ways to avoid it that are inspired by the Bible.

  1. Never comment when you are angry: Proverbs 15:1 says: “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh answer stirs up anger.” Your quick-tempered comment might sound great today, but tomorrow you will probably regret it.frabz-facebook-drama-facebook-drama-everywhere-298113
  2. Tame your jealousy monster: So your best friend and her boyfriend are totally cute and post completely adorable selfies all over their timeline and you are 100% single. So what? Be happy that they are happy! Facebook brings out the jealousy in all of us, but just remember that although they take cute pictures and make cute statuses, things aren’t always flowers and rainbows for them.
  3. WWJP?: This stands for “what would Jesus post?” and this is pretty self-explanatory. It goes for comments as well as posts. Knowing what is appropriate to post and what isn’t will save you lots of drama in the long run!
  4. Forgive and forget: As Elsa would say, “Let it go!” Let your social media grudge go. Jesus calls us to forgive. Yeah, it is hard, but you will be so much better for it in the end!

Facebook is great, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes it can be more of a hassle than anything! As the Bible says in Philippians 4:8, we are to focus on the things that are right and noble and pure and admirable. This goes for Facebook! Let your page reflect you as a Christ follower and let it be a platform for God to use you as an example for others!

"Baking" Your Makeup 101

"Baking" Your Makeup 101
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Baking-Makeup.jpg

No, the title of this article does not mean to go put your makeup in the oven. It’s a trending way to increase the wear of your makeup and make your skin look flawless! Of course, you’ll have to carry out a few steps to complete the look.

First, you need to find a concealer and foundation that match your skin type and color. Make sure the foundation is a loose powder, this is a necessity! Start how you wouldChelsea Crockett - Loose Powder start any other makeup look by applying and blending your concealer. Next apply your loose powder by layering it on your cheeks, forehead, or wherever else you please. Then, let it sit for about 5 minutes. Some websites say 1-3, others say 5-10. I recommend a happy medium! After waiting, dust off the remaining powder. This leaves you with a thin layer of nicely set powder.

You might be worried that it looks caked on or over the top. Try it out for yourself! As long as you don’t do this to your whole face, you should be just fine! If you want to take it a step further, finish with a setting spray. It’s that simple! Try it out for yourself :).

2016 Turtleneck Fashion

2016 Turtleneck Fashion
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-crockett-Turtleneck-Fashion-2016.jpg

To the people who say that turtlenecks are totally not cute, I say think again! They keep you cozy warm in the chilly temps all while rocking a stylish fashion staple. Layer them under coats, over skirts, tucked into jeans, any way you want! Here are my 3 favorite ways to wear them this winter.

  1. Edgy and chic: If you want to try an edgy or trendy look, pair a gray turtleneck sweater with a leather jacket, some black skinnies, and black booties. The shorter length of the leather jacket will nicely contrast with the longer hem of the turtleneck, adding dimension to the outfit.FullSizeRender (32)
  2. Sweet and simple: A simple turtleneck is a very effortlessly classy look. Pair a simple, colored turtleneck with casual skinnies and flats for a sweet everyday outfit.
  3. Fun and flirty: I love this turtleneck sweater/leather skirt/plaid shirt combo. Add in tights and boots for a fun, feminine outfit for a night with the girls!

What are your thoughts on turtlenecks? Do you think they are cute, or do you think they are a thing of the past?

XOXO, Chels

Jewelry for the Nature Lovers

Jewelry for the Nature Lovers
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Nature-Lovers-Jewelry.jpg

Jewelry comes in all shapes and sizes... And not to forgot styles and designs!  I love the outdoors and basically anything that has to do with nature. I"ve found some brands and accessories that have a nature vibe to them for the outdoor lovers!

As I"ve written an article on them before, Alex and Ani has tons of bangle bracelets that represent almost anything including adventure, nature, life, etc.  They have bracelets with the tree of life, certain animals and their tracks, Chelsea Crockett - Change of Scenery Necklaceadventure themed symbols, and many others.  They"re so cute and you can pick from a large variety!

If you love the mountains, I found the perfect necklace on Pinterest for you! It’s called the Change of Scenery Necklace and can be found on modcloth.com. The picture on the left is a little preview for you! I’m in love with it and it’s only $15! The reviews and ratings on it are great saying that the quality is awesome for its price. For $15, why not treat yourself?

Lastly, Etsy also has a variety of nature-oriented products. I found a set of necklaces in particular that have a cool concept to them! They each have a stone with a charm hanging off of it. The charms can be seashells, starfish, doves, etc. I think they’re so cute and simple. Click here to check them out!

Homemade Microwave Potato Chips

Homemade Microwave Potato Chips
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/chelsea-crockett-Homemade-Microwave-Potato-Chips-.jpg

I am a lover of healthy snacks, but sometimes a girl craves a handful of greasy, salty potato chips. Ya feel? Lucky for you (and me), I found a recipe for homemade potato chips that are low fat, cheap, and made in your microwave! Yummy snack here we come!

Ingredients:

  • 1 large russet potato, scrubbed and sliced thinly16117462567_751b5aacf8_b
  • Salt
  • Optional: olive oil and other seasonings.

Slice your potato very thin into 1/8 or 1/16 inch slices. Put the slices directly into cold water and let them sit for 5 minutes, then rinse them in cold water until clear. Use paper towels to dry the slices, then line a glass plate or tray with parchment paper and arrange the slices on it. Make sure they do not touch each other or they will stick together. If you like you can sprinkle your slices with salt or seasonings, or you can even brush them with olive oil. Place them in the microwave and cook them on high for 3 minutes. After that, flip the slices over and microwave them on 50% power for about 2:30. If you see slices starting to turn brown, take them out and continue cooking the rest. Keep doing these steps with the rest of your potato slices until they are all cooked. If you don’t gobble them up right away, store them in an airtight container for future snacking!

Simple snacking at its finest.

XOXO, Chels

Winter Poncho Style

Ponchos used to be a fashion statement of the past, but recently they have made their way back into style. There are so many different variations of them, from plaid to plain to patterned! Here are my top 3 favorite ways to play up ponchos this season.poncho 2

  1. Pretty in plaid: I love this preppy take on ponchos. The pattern is classy and timeless. Wear a flowey white long-sleeve blouse over your poncho, and add in some dark jeans and boots to finish off the look.
  2. Fun fringe: This might be my favorite way to wear ponchos. The fringe is so fun and flirty! Pair with simple black jeans, suede booties, and a neutral tee.
  3. Cute and casual: Wear a simple poncho with casual jeans and boots for an effortlessly cute enseble.

What is your favorite poncho pair?

Spoons: handy eating utensil and surprisingly useful beauty tool. These shiny silver pieces of silverware aren’t just for eating anymore, they are a handy getting-ready essential! Here are a few ways to use spoons that don’t involve transporting food to your mouth.spoon beauty

  1. Contouring: angle a spoon on your face along your cheek bone and use it as a contouring guide!
  2. Nail art: Mix a few nail polish colors on a spoon and then press it to your nail for a marbled effect.
  3. Mascara guard/winged eyeliner guide: Place a spoon over your eyelid while you apply mascara as a guard to prevent unwanted mascara marks on your lids. You can also use it to help draw on winged eyeliner.
  4. De-puff eyes: Set a spoon in the freezer and leave it for a while, then take it out and apply it to your under-eyes to shrink eye bags!

See, spoons are way more handy than you might think!

There are so many products in the beauty world that don’t stand true to their advertising. Eye catching promises such as “Lasts up to 24 hours!” or “Makes your lashes 10x longer!” make us wonder if those promises actually hold true. Here are my thoughts on some of those questionable products :)!

  1. Dry Shampoo. This absolutely works! You don’t know how many times this has saved me from a bad hair day. It helps greasy hair look a lot less oily and dirty, and it helps it feel better too!Chelsea Crockett - Way to Grow Products
  2. Hair Growing Shampoo and Conditioner. Not Your Mother’s Way to Grow Shampoo and Conditioner are definitely two of the most popular products that claim to make your hair grow faster… and they do! I used them because, like you, I was curious as to if they actually worked or not. My hair wasn’t only stronger, but I noticed it grew a lot more quickly as well.
  3. Blush and Bronzer Cheek Stains. Depending on the brand, these can be a little iffy. Usually the high quality brands at Sephora and Ulta have promising staining products. Make sure you follow the directions or you’ll have stained streaks across your cheeks (Unfortunately, I know from experience)!
  4. Eyelash Curler. For some people, eyelash curlers are a necessity when putting on makeup. For me, I agree that they give a little extra lift to your lashes when you need it!
  5. Lip Plumpers. If you want an extra plump to your lips, a lip plumper is not my go-to product. If you find the right glosses and lip sticks, then you don’t even need a plumping product!

Let me know what you think about these products below!

Healthy No-Bake Chocolate Chip Cookie

Healthy No-Bake Chocolate Chip Cookie
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-Healthy-No-Bake-Chocolate-Chip-Cookie-.jpg

What do you usually have for an after school snack? After a long day at school I tend to crave something sweet. Something like…cookies! There is a few problems with this. One is that cookies are time consuming to make, and I want a snack right when I get home, and the other is that they aren’t the best for you! Today I am introducing cookies that are not only good for you, but they only take 5 minutes to make! They are packed with protein and sugar free, so that means they are totally guilt free, too. This recipe makes a giant yummy cookie for one.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup rolled oatshealthy-no-bake-giant-cookie-for-one2
  • 1 tbsp coconut flour
  • Dash of salt
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 2 tbsp peanut or almond butter
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • ¼ cup almond milk
  • Chocolate chips of choice

Line a plate with parchment paper and set it aside. In a mixing bowl, combine the oats, salt, coconut flour protein powder, and cinnamon and mix well. Stir the peanut or almond butter and honey in until the mixture is crumbly. Add the milk a tablespoon at a time until the batter is very thick. Use your hands to form a cookie shape and eat up!

Best back to school snack everrrr!

XOXO, Chels

First Date Do"s and Don"ts: Part 2

First Date Do"s and Don"ts: Part 2
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Chelsea-Crockett-First-Date.jpg

A few months ago, I uploaded an article on first date do’s and don’ts. It was extremely popular (I even made a video off of it!), so I decided to make a part 2! Why not? There are always a few necessities, and a few things you should avoid, on a first date. Here they are!

  • DON’T rush anything. You might be secretly waiting for him to kiss you or wanting him to ask you out right there on the spot, but great things take time! Patience is a virtue. Just wait for the perfect moment that feels right.
  • DO be chill during the date. As girls, we like to overanalyze and over think everything that happens, especially with boys. Our heads may jump to the “OMG he definitely doesn’t like me” kind of thoughts. Just calm down and relax! And most importantly, be yourself!
  • DON’T only talk about yourself. Be engaged and interested in his life. Ask him questions and listen attentively. Yes, he is there to get to know you, but remember you are there to get to know him too!
  • DO be polite and considerate. Saying “please” and “thank you” might seem overrated to you, but I promise it’s not!
  • DON’T be on your phone the whole night. This is a big one. Our generation is obsessed with technology, but we need to know when to put our phones away. If you and your date both do this, there will be more time for getting to know each other, which is the main reason why you’re there!

What other do’s and don’ts do you suggest? Let me know below!

XO - Chels

Indie and Harper Jewelry Line

Indie and Harper Jewelry Line
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Indie-and-Harper.jpg

Boho jewelry has made its stylish statement in the fashion world as it sweeps the pages on Pinterest and appears on everyone’s Instagram feeds! On Pinterest (of course) I discovered a jewelry brand called Indie and Harper that offers a variety of necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc. I am so obsessed!Chelsea Crockett - Moon Pendant Necklace

Their necklaces are the main source of attraction to their brand. One of their most popular necklaces is the Half Moon Pendant Necklace shown on the right! It’s $35 but I think it’s totally worth it! They also have a wide variety of other designs such as a whale tail, a feather, rose quartz, etc. Most are cheaper than other jewelry brands and their quality is just as good!

If you’re more of a bracelet or ring girl, you’ll be obsessed with these too! Most of their rings are super simple, but include a cool stone or emblem! Indie and Harper is really big on stones which can be cut tiny to add some extra decoration to your ring. As far as the bracelets go, there isn’t as big of a selection but still worth a look!

If you want some earrings, anklets, or other accessories, check the website for those too!

Enjoy! - Chels

Relationship Red Flags

Relationship Red Flags
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Chelsea-Crockett-Red-Flags.jpg

Throughout relationships, there may be times when you start to second guess certain aspects of it. Following your gut feeling can mean a lot more than you think. Sometimes we make excuses for being in a relationship we really want, but it might not always be what’s best. I wanted to help sort out some of the feelings that may actually be red flags in your relationship!

  • Lack of respect. This is a big one! If your boyfriend doesn’t respect who you are, physically or not, then that can be a huge problem. You need to be on the same page in a relationship 100%.
  • Reoccurring stress. If you find yourself stressing several times throughout the week about your relationship, you shouldn’t have to feel that! Relationships should be about making each other a better person and bringing happiness into each other’s lives.
  • Lack of honesty. If you catch your boyfriend hiding certain things from you, maybe you should bring it up. Honesty is one of the most important aspects of a relationship.
  • Not over a past relationship. If you’re not ready to move on, then you’re simply not ready to move on! If your boyfriend seems to frequently bring up an ex, maybe you need to talk to him about it.
  • Negative reactions from your friends and family. If a majority of your friends and family seem to be concerned, maybe you should reconsider. I know some of you think listening to your parents is overrated, but if they have a bad feeling about someone, it’s usually pretty accurate!

If you see any of these signs in your relationship, think about sitting down and having a conversation about it! It may save you from wasting your time in a relationship you shouldn’t be in.

Love, Chels

Alex and Ani Jewelry

Alex and Ani Jewelry
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Alex-and-Ani.jpg

Brands that have a meaning behind them are higher in my book than brands or companies that don’t. Alex and Ani is a jewelry brand that doesn’t sell accessories for the sole purpose of looking fashionable. Although their necklaces and bracelets are totally stylish, they each have a certain meaning behind them that I wanted to tell you a little about!

To start off, their bangles are definitely the brand’s main attraction. Their original style has a main symbol that dangles from an either gold or silver bracelet. Each symbol represents three things, such as love, friendship, loyalty, adventure, etc. For example, the Path of Life Charm Bangle represents strength, motivation, and knowledge. Another one of my favorites is the Sailboat Charm Bangle which represents courage, adventure, and transition. Each bracelet comes with a little card to remember the meaning behind it!Chelsea Crockett - Alex and Ani Bangles

Apart from bangles, they also have bracelets, necklaces, earrings, scarves, handbags, etc. Since you all know I am very religious, I love the jewelry that has a cross on it. You can find one on a necklace, a bangle, or a bracelet to not only represent Christ, but life, union, and immortality as well.

Alex and Ani has an awesome meaning and concept behind them. They make for perfect gifts considering each piece is usually around $30. I highly suggest you check them out. You won’t regret it!

XO - Chelsea

The Do"s & Don"ts of Valentine"s Day

The Do"s & Don"ts of Valentine"s Day
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Valentines-Day.png

Valentine’s Day… The holiday you either await excitedly or dread grumpily. There’s no in between. Although you may be single this year, there’s no need to fear! Valentine’s Day can be memorable whether you have a special date or are spending it with your closest BFFs! Here are some do’s and don’ts I came up with to help you out this holiday.

  • DO make the best of it. Whether you have a date or not, keep a positive mindset. You don’t have to celebrate love with your crush. Celebrate the love you have for your friends and family! Maybe even buy them flowers and chocolate!Chelsea Crockett - Valentine
  • DON’T freak out about not having a date. You’re not the only one. Valentine’s Day is just another day!
  • DO go on a date with your BFF! Why not have a girls’ night? Go to dinner and head back to your house for a movie night and sleepover.
  • DO come up with something special and creative to get your crush. Of course the typical chocolates and roses are totally acceptable for Valentine’s Day, but coming up with your own meaningful gift is even better!
  • DON’T take it too seriously. It’s just a day to tell your friends, family, or significant other how much they mean to you. Don’t over think it!
  • DO splurge on yourself. If you want to buy yourself a big box of chocolates and eat it all in one sitting, you do it girl!

Hope you have a memorable Valentine’s Day! <3

Love - Chelsea
