3 Creative DIYs for Reuse!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Chelsea-Crockett-DIYs-for-Reuse.jpg

Everyone has old things they just throw away when they’re too vintage or simply old and rundown like a piece of furniture, clothing, etc. The amount of DIYs that are possible from these things is endless… You just have to find the right one for your outdated item!

  1. Old sweaters and t-shirts are always reusable. Maybe not wearable, but try turning them into a t-shirt quilt or maybe a sweater infinity scarf. Certain DIYs don’t take a lot of time but the results are great! There are tons of different options, you just have to look for them!Chelsea Crockett - DIY Key
  2. Old keys that aren’t needed anymore can make for a great necklace. Including the actually necklace chain itself, those two items are basically all you need! You can even decorate it different ways like the picture on the right.
  3. Old maps can have a lot more potential than you think. Pieces of furniture such as a lamp, canvas, etc. can be a perfect place to use it! Depending on the piece of furniture, you can papier-mâché the map onto it! You can look up several different recipes to do so.

Let me know how yours turns out! :) -Chels

4 Items Every Girl Needs in Her Bathroom

4 Items Every Girl Needs in Her Bathroom
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsea-crockett-4-Items-Every-Girl-Needs-in-Her-Bathroom.jpg

What are some staple items in your bathroom that you use on a daily basis? No, I don’t mean the toilet, I mean skin/hair/general beauty items! There are a few things I think every girl should have in her bathroom, just to make sure she has everything she may need to maintain her beauty, right at her disposal! Feeling unprepared is the worrrrst. Here are 4 such items!

  1. Dry shampoo: Washing our hair every day is so overrated! Every other day is much healthier, and if you can hold out longer, that’s even better! This is why dry shampoo is a vital product to have in your bathroom. Spray some on your roots before you go to bed to allow it to absorb the oils as you sleep, and top it off with a little spritz in the morning when you wake up.
  2. Coconut oil: This stuff is amazing. Keep it in a jar by your sink and use it to moisturize, remove your makeup, and even as shaving cream!18kxz3udb60v8jpg
  3. SPF moisturizer: The best way to prevent wrinkles is to protect your skin from the sun! Use a SPF moisturizer every day to ward off those harmful rays.
  4. A truckload of bobby pins: It never fails. I will start off the month with a full pack of bobby pins, and when the end of the month rolls around, I cannot find a single one of them. The best solution is to either keep a ton of them in your bathroom, or rig up a magnet to stick them to once you take them out, like the picture on the right!

Having these items in my bathroom makes me feel prepared for anything my beauty routine may throw at me!

Sleep and Skin Care

Sleep and Skin Care
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Sleep-and-Skin-Care.jpg

If there is one thing I wish I could get more of, it is sleep. When I am at school, all I can think about is going home and napping, ha! Staying up late sounds good at the time, but the next day is sooooo not as fun. Makeup can hide the bags under your eyes, but it cant disguise your exhaustion! Here are 3 reasons why you should be getting more sleep, for your skin’s sake.

  1. Sped up aging process: When you don’t get enough sleep, your skin suffers. It speeds up the aging process of your skin and makes it dry out faster.images
  2. Increased Cortisol levels: cortisol is a stress hormone, and when you don’t catch enough zzzz’s, it gets all out of whack. Cortisol can also cause acne and trigger some skin conditions like eczema, or it can make your pimples worse!
  3. It changes your growth hormones: sleep deprivation also causes decreases in growth hormones that help thicken and moisturize your skin. This leads to dehydrated skin and, like we said above, faster signs of aging! Want glowing skin? Then you need those growth hormones!

Moral of the story? Sleep keeps your skin looking better and younger. Getting your beauty rest is so worth it!

XOXO, Chels

Nutella Grape Bites

Nutella Grape Bites
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/chelsea-crockett-nutella-grape-bites.jpg

Grapes are the perfect snack to take to school with you. They aren’t messy, they are easy to grab and go, and they are tasty! Want to make them even tastier? Toss Nutella and nuts into the mix! Here is how to make tasty Nutella grape bites that are perfect for school lunches, snacks, and even great to take to friend’s houses! The best part is…they only take 5 minutes to make!!

Ingredients:

  • Nutellagrape2-e1413946464385
  • Bag of green grapes
  • Nuts (any kind you want. I prefer pecans!)

Wash your grapes and then let them dry. Dip the bottom half of each grape in the Nutella, and then roll them in the crushed nuts. I like to freeze my grapes after that to make them a cool treat, but you can store them at room temperature if you prefer! These are a great when you just want a “pop” of dessert and need a quick way to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Your friends will be swiping these out of your backpack once they see you with these tasty treats!

XOXO, Chels

Zucchini Chips

Zucchini Chips
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/chelsea-crockett-zucchini-chips-.jpg

I love veggie chips. The word “veggie” makes me feel like I can eat a whole bag and consider it healthy. ;) In this case, the chips actually ARE healthy because they only have 3 ingredients! Here is how to make a great healthy alternative to chips/crackers!

Ingredients:

  • 4 large zucchini, evenly sliced 1/8 inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil7586481160_423bbd93c4
  • Salt

Slice the zucchini in very thin slices and then them on paper towels to dry. Cover the slices with more paper towels and set a baking sheet on top of them. Press down on the baking sheet to help squeeze out some of the moisture. Preheat the oven to 235 degrees F and then line several baking sheets with parchment paper. Brush the parchment paper with olive oil and then lay the zucchini slices in a single layer on the parchment paper. Fit as many on each baking sheet as possible. Brush the top of the zucchini with olive oil and sprinkle the slices with salt. Bake for 1 1/2 - 2 hours until crisp and golden. If some chips are still a little flimsy or damp, remove the chips that are done and place the damp chips back in the oven for a few more minutes. Allow the zucchini chips to cool on the paper towels to absorb any extra oil. Store the chips you don’t devour immediately in an air-tight container!

I take these to school with me as a snack to keep my tummy satisfied during the day!

XOXO, Chels

  • If your skin reacts badly to fragrance, dyes, or chemicals, use baby sunscreen for your skins protection!
  • Baby lotions that contain oatmeal are perfect to use as a full body lotion for adults! You’ll find your skin to be healthier and softer!

Why I Went Out for School Sports

Why I Went Out for School Sports
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/IMG_1150.jpg

This year I decided to go out for my school’s tennis team, and it was such a great decision. I was on the dance team my freshmen year and loved it, but because of my crazy schedule I had to stop. I loved being on the dance team because of all the friendships I made, the fun dances we got to do, the events and competitions we got to perform at, and because it was great exercise! I missed being on a school sport, so I joined tennis. Here are 3 reasons I decided to go out for tennis this year!

  1. It was my senior year and I wanted to try something new. Senior year is your last hoorah before real life kicks in, so take advantage of it!

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

  2. Being on a team keeps me motivated and exercising often. I love the feeling of hearing my friends and teammates cheering me on when I make a good serve or a good save during my matches. It is so exhilarating! Also, because we practice or have matches almost every day, I am constantly exercising. I get to stay in shape AND hang out with my friends, all at the same time!
  3. Getting involved in high school is so rewarding and making new friends is so fun. Being on a school sports team gives you a sense of pride. Wherever you go for matches or competitions you get to represent your school! I also love all of the new friends I have made through tennis. Plus, I am on the team with my sister! Bonus!

I have loved being on my school’s sports teams throughout my high school experience. If you have never been on one or are contemplating it, I highly recommend it! You will not regret being involved in school. These are memories you will take with you the rest of your life!

XOXO, Chels

Running Myths

Running Myths
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Chelsea-Crockett-running-myths.png

Running is an incredible exercise, but many people claim it has its unwelcomed consequences.  From a body break-down to re-shaping your body in a negative way, many of these myths keep people from soaking in all the amazing benefits running has to offer!  Let’s break down these myths once and for all and throw our tennis shoes on!Chelsea Crockett- run

  1. “Running will make you bulky.” Running is an extremely slimming exercise that burns body fat.  If you place a lot of pressure on your quads and do uphill running, then you risk the potential of having bigger thighs (the healthy way).
  2. “I will start chaffing between my legs.” While this is very true for most people, it is an easy fix.  Try wearing leggings or spandex under running shorts to keep this from happening.
  3. “You have to run every day to get better.” Running every day can be harsh on the body, especially if you are a newbie.  Switching up your routine (elliptical, bike, etc.) will improve your running as well!
  4. “Running is bad for your body and joints.” The only thing that comes from running is a healthy body.  Never push your body too far.
  5. “Running is hard.” Running is one of the best stress relievers there is by releasing an abundance of endorphins to the brain.  You don’t have to be a long-distance or power runner to gain the benefits.  Going for a jog is very relaxing!

Who’s ready to go for a run with me?!

Cleopatra Beauty Secrets

Cleopatra Beauty Secrets
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Chelsea-Crockett-Cleopatra-Beauty-Secrets.jpg

Cleopatra, the Egyptian queen, was known as the most beautiful woman in the world. She was one of the first to wear makeup, use scrubs, and soak in baths. She was pampered with natural resources from the earth and animals, which you can recreate yourself!

  • For glowing, soft skin, mix half a cup of honey, 3 cups of milk, and 5 tablespoons of olive oil and add it to a warm hot bath to soak in. It’s all about relaxation!
  • Cleopatra didn’t have primer or toner during her time, so she used rose water instead! It acts as a natural toner and primer in one! It’ll keep your skin nourished, while also helping makeup go on smoothly and last longer.
  • Vinegar circulates the blood that irritates skin. After removing makeup, try adding ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar to a sink full of warm water. Splash your face and let it air dry or healthier skin!Chelsea Crockett- henna nails
  • Ever heard of a henna tattoo? Cleopatra used henna to dye her nails! While the color wasn’t permanent, it would protect the nail and leave a long-lasting color.
  • Raw honey is skins best friend. It has antibacterial properties, slows aging, treats acne, and creates glowing skin. Try a raw honey mask!

Whoever said old people (like hundreds of years old) don’t know what they’re talking about it is totally wrong!!

XOXO,

            Chelsea

Rock the Retro Look

Rock the Retro Look
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/chelsea-crockett-rock-the-retro-look-.jpg

Vintage & retro hairstyles are coming back with a bang! When I see pictures of women in the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s I am always so jealous of their hair. They wore it in such cool ways! Luckily, lots of those styles are making a comeback! Here are a few of my favorite retro hair styles and how to style them.

  1. Tied-up updoo: If you have ever seen pictures of “Rosie the Riveter” then you know where this style came from! I love it because it is a quick, easy, adorable way to pull your hair up. It is also great for second-day hair that is looking a bit greasy. The scarf hides it! Here is how to do it: Work some texturizing spray through your hair, then curl it with a large barreled iron. Spritz with hair spray, then pin random curls into a messy bun. Tie a pretty head scarf retro 4around your head to finish it off!
  2. Retro waves: When I see this hair style I think of knee-high white leather boots and some giant bug-eyed sunglasses! Or I think of Daphne from Scooby Doo. Either one works ;). Here is how to do this look: Curl your hair with hot rollers, then use dry shampoo at your crown for some volume. Tease it a bit at the crown, and then finish with a spritz of hair spray, not too much that it looks sticky or rough!
  3. Victory rolls: This hair style makes me want to put on a poodle skirt and go to the drive-in! So retro and so classic. It gives a great ‘40s vibe and would look absolutely adorable with a full skirt, lace dress, or silky blouse. Here is how to create this look: Lightly spray texturizing spray to give your hair some grip, and then blow dry it. Part your hair down the middle, then twist one side back and pin it into place at the nape of your neck. Then repeat with the opposite side. Connect the ends, twist them back into a soft bun, and finish with a light mist of hair spray.

These styles are great for a day when you are feeling like you want to mix things up. Plus, they are all easy to do! Which is YOUR favorite retro look?

XOXO, Chels

Things to Consider Before You Cut Your Hair

Things to Consider Before You Cut Your Hair
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Chelsea-crockett-things-to-consider-before-you-cut-your-hair-.jpg

If you follow me on any social media, then you will know that my hair underwent a huge change recently! I got a ton of it chopped off! I now have healthy, shiny, shoulder-length hair that I am in love with. It was time for change! I had been contemplating cutting it for a long time, and I finally just went for it. There were a few things I took into account before I cut off my hair, and if you are planning on chopping your locks I suggest you contemplate a few of these, too! Here is what to consider before cutting your hair short.

  1. If you have fine hair: If your hair is on the thinner side, a “lob” or “long bob” can make your hair thicker, which is a total plus! You will have more volume because you won’t have your length weighing it down. Also, have your stylist cut your lob into soft layers to give it more movement.FullSizeRender (21)
  2. If you have thick hair: If you have thick hair, a lob or a shoulder-length cut like mine can be fun to style. You can make things interesting by playing up the texture and using different curling irons and your straightener to create different looks. You can also play with your part and experiment! A little advice, though, if you are getting a shorter cut and you have thick hair, have the stylist thin you out with a razor or thinning sheers just a bit so you don’t get a super poofy look.
  3. Will short hair suit my face shape?: The short answer? Yes! Lobs and shoulder length cuts are very versatile. You can make it work for you with the amount of layering and movement. Someone with a very square face shape will look better with a layered lob whereas someone with a longer, more oval face shape will look great with a cut that has a fringe or side-swept bangs to complement the long length of the face.

If you are on the fence about cutting your hair, I say go for it! After all, it is just hair, it always grows back. :)

XOXO, Chels

Pros & Cons of Detoxing

Pros & Cons of Detoxing
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Chelsea-Crockett-Detox.jpg

A detox diet may seem like a perfect way to drop a few pounds. You might cleanse for a day, or multiple, to quickly lose some weight. There’s controversy on whether or not these diets are actually benefitting or hurting our bodies. After doing some research, I made a list of pros and cons to bust the myths about detoxing. So you can decide for yourself!

If you’re unfamiliar with the term, detox dieting is when you limit your intake to only fluids, vegetables, or fruit for hours or days at a time. One of the most popular ways of doing so is a juice cleanse. The purpose of these is to flush out or cleanse your body of any wastes or toxins, resulting in quick weight loss.Chelsea Crockett - Fruit

PROS – For the positives of detoxing, I can state the obvious: quick weight loss, eliminating toxins, cleansing your system, etc. If you limit your diet to solely fruits and vegetables, you’re bound to drop a few pounds within your diet. Any diet that reduces fattening, sugary, or processed food can positively affect your body, as long as you’re careful and do it the right way.

CONS – You might be thinking, are detox diets even necessary? The answer is no. Your body already has functions to get rid of any toxins or waste your body doesn’t need. They also aren’t recommended for teens since our bodies are still growing and need the nutrients and proteins.

So you decide for yourself! If you want a quick jumpstart on your diet, try it out! But if not, I suggest sticking to exercise and healthy eating :).

XOXO - Chelsea

4 Steps to Rocking Boho Accessories

4 Steps to Rocking Boho Accessories
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Boho-Jewelry.jpg

If you’ve seen pictures of over-accessorized wrists and hands with indie styled jewelry, then we’re already on the same page! The picture above shows someone rocking the boho styled accessory look. There are four main steps to complete this trend yourself. Keep reading to find out how you can achieve it, too :)!

  1. Boho styled outfits usually incorporate subtle or neutral tones. Paint your nails a color that go along with this color scheme and match the jewelry you’re going to pair with it. I love how the girl on the right went with white nails to compliment her silver jewelry. Try it out!Chelsea Crockett - Boho Accessories
  2. Next come the rings. Whatever color you choose for your jewelry, it all needs to match. If you go all gold, keep the gold color scheme. Same with silver, rose gold, etc. Layer different styled rings with a variety of jewels and shapes.
  3. After you have your rings, find some bangle bracelets to go with them. Alex and Ani is known for their bangles and are perfect for layering.
  4. The last step is optional and only adds to the boho, indie theme! Metallic tattoos such as the ones above are fun to try out! They remind me of Henna tattoos but are easier to get off and much less expensive. You can find them at a variety of different stores such as Topshop, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, etc.

Let me know if you like the look as well!

XOXO - Chelsea

Quick Tips: Applying for College

Quick Tips: Applying for College
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/images-1.jpeg

One of the most daunting of all the college related tasks is the applications. They can be long, tedious, and daunting! Here are a few tips on how to make them more manageable and less miserable.

  1. Start early: This may be the most important tip of all! Starting the application process early will ensure you don’t feel crunched for time and stressed. It will also give you more time to proofread your essays and make sure that your work is A+.download (1)
  2. Find a proofreader: If you have a grammatically gifted family member or a favorite high school English teacher, have them proofread your essays before you submit them. This will help ensure your essays are grammatically sound and that the content is good.
  3. Apply smart: Don’t apply to Harvard if you don’t picture yourself going there. Only apply for schools that you are interested in. Don’t waste your time with others.
  4. Keep track of deadlines: Staying organized during the application process will keep you sane. Use a planner or an excel doc to help track when applications and letters of recommendation are due. The worst thing in the world is realizing that the application to your dream school is due tomorrow and you haven’t even started it!

Hopefully this helps my fellow seniors out there to prepare for college aps!

Good luck,

Best Post-Workout Drinks

Best Post-Workout Drinks
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Post-Workout-Drinks.jpg

After working out, the last thing you want to do is have a huge unhealthy meal. I always aim for the nutritious options: fruits, vegetables, smoothies, etc. This being said, I was unaware of the many drinks that actually benefit you after a run or workout. So why not share them with you lovelies :)?

Obviously you should Chelsea Crockett - Chocolate Milkhave already drank plenty of water prior and during your workout, but if not, drink up! Apart from H₂O, chocolate milk is great for your body after your exercise! You might be surprised by this, considering the fact that it’s solely a dairy product and is filled with chocolate. However, chocolate milk is just as (if not more) effective as some specialty sports beverages. It’s essential for muscle recovery.

Another good post-workout drink is green tea. Apart from its many nutritious minerals and benefits, it helps replenish any sore or damaged muscles after exercise. It also helps reduce stomach fat and avoids high intake of any unwanted calories. Cherry juice is also proven to decrease muscle damage. It contains anti-inflammatory properties that are perfect for after a hard workout.

Let me know what you drink after a workout so I can try it out for myself!

DIY Coconut Oil Hair Spray

DIY Coconut Oil Hair Spray
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-DIY-Cocolut-oil-hair-spray.jpg

Your hair is always begging for moisture, especially in the winter time when the air is cold and dry! Products you use to style your hair, such as hair spray and mousse, can dry your hair out even more. Want to know how you can make your very own hair spray that will actually hydrate and strengthen your hair as you use it…made with all natural ingredients? Who wouldn’t!

Ingredients:download

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 3-4 drops rosemary essential oil
  • 2 cups distilled water

Melt the coconut oil in the microwave and add it to a spray bottle. Next add in the distilled water and essential oil. Shake it reaaally good. It works great on both damp and dry hair! Also, make sure to shake it before every use because the ingredients will naturally separate.

Now this hair spray doesn’t have as strong of a hold as store bought sprays, but it does a much better job of keeping the frizz away!

Pore Filler: What it Is and What it Does

Pore Filler: What it Is and What it Does
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Pore-Filler-What-it-Is-and-What-it-Does.jpg

What is pore filler? What does it do? Well, to be honest, it does exactly what the name says, it fills your pores! I’ll explain what it is and why you need to give it a try.

What it is: Pore filler helps to erase the look of large pores. You smooth it on your face like you would a makeup primer before applying your face cosmetics.2503344

Why to use it: If you have large pores or just want to cover up your pores, this is for you. Using this can help smooth inconsistencies and large pores to help your makeup go on smoother. It also helps combat oily skin, because the larger your pores are the more oily your skin is!

The best products: NYX and Benefit Cosmetics both have great pore fillers. Baby Skin also has one called “Instant Pore Eraser” that I have used and definitely recommend. Pore fillers can actually be pretty pricey, so my recommendation is to either ask for a sample or buy the smallest bottle you can so that if it doesn’t work for you, you aren’t stuck with a whole bottle of it!

Try it out and see what you think! Comment below if you have ever used pore fillers and what you thought of them.

The Power of a Detox Bath

The Power of a Detox Bath
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Chelsea-Crockett-Detox-Bath.jpg

Detox baths are not only good for the body but for the soul as well :)! Some people unaware of the benefits and dangers of detox baths may not ever try one, or may even overuse them. I wanted to share a little insight on the pros and cons of detoxing. The power of a detox bath can be stronger than you think!

Let’s start with the benefits. To put it in one sentence, detox baths improve your health and well-being. Detoxification is crucial for your body, Chelsea Crockett - Detox Benefitsespecially your immune system. It eliminates toxins and other wastes that your body doesn’t need. Because our environment is continuously getting dirtier and more polluted, the amount of toxins in the air is increasing. Our body gets rid of wastes on its own, but detox baths can help speed up and enhance those processes!

Although detoxing is good for the body, it can potentially be harmful, as well. The saying “too much of anything can be bad” can definitely be applied here. Taking one of these baths should not be done daily. About 1-3 times a week is the recommendation based on your body. Since your body is working hard to rid itself of toxins, you may experience light-headedness or dizziness.

If you’ve never tried a detox bath, I recommend you give it a shot! It’ll help flush out any of the “yuck” you might have in your system!

Watercolor Nail Art

Watercolor Nail Art
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsea-crockett-watercolor-nail-art.jpg

I often catch myself staring at nail art on Pinterest completely mesmerized. How in the world do people do their nails so perfectly?! When I do mine I feel like a kindergartener trying to color inside the lines! Today I am going to share a perfectly easy, super cute nail art technique that gives you watercolor nails! Adorable!c6a50a2b33ffb54d5dffce613e6c7fdd

All you need for this technique is a Sharpie or two, a base nail color, and some rubbing alcohol. After painting your nails in the color of your choice (I would choose a pastel because spring is closeJ ), let them dry a spell. While they are drying, combine colorful Sharpie ink and rubbing alcohol in a separate bowl, then paint it onto your nails! It should look like a watercolor painting. Add glitter topcoat if you are feeling fancy.

How easy was that? This is a great, cute nail idea for Easter!

Things to Never Do Before a Workout

Things to Never Do Before a Workout
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsea-crockett-Things-to-Never-Do-Before-a-Workout.jpg

When I work out, I want to get the most out of it. I am a busy gal, much like all of you, and the little time I have to work out has to be maximized! There are a few things that can limit the effectiveness/how much you get out of your workout, and most of them are done even before you start your exercise routine! Here are 4 things to NEVER do before you work out.

  1. Chug a lot of water at once: Drinking a glass of water before a workout is no biggie, it can actually help fuel your run! But drinking a lot of water before you hit the gym can actually cause you feel really full and prevent you from having a good workout.starbucks-coffee-258x300
  2. Stress out: When your body is under stress, it releases a hormone that is a “muscle killer.” It tells your body to store fat, and it breaks down your muscle tissue. So, when you are prepping for a workout, try to leave stress at the door.
  3. Drink a cuppa Joe: It goes with the tip above. Caffeine in coffee can lead to higher levels of stress hormones in your body, which we mentioned above is not good. It can also cause dehydration and rapid heartbeat!
  4. Workout hungry: Not good! Food is fuel, and before you burn calories you actually need to intake some! Now, this doesn’t mean have a heavy meal, a banana or a bowl of cereal is always a good pre-workout snack.

If you want to maximize your workout don’t do these 4 things!

3 At-Home Lower Ab Workouts

3 At-Home Lower Ab Workouts
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Ab-Workout-Article.jpg

Let’s face it, we all want some killer abs for summer, whether we admit it or not. But driving all the way to the gym or having equipment to use isn’t always possible. I’ve learned 4 different lower ab workouts that are easy to do at home without all the hassle!

  • Instead of holding a simple plank, bump up the difficulty and add in leg rows! Pull each leg one by one up to your chest while continuing to hold your plank. You can either do this in reps or by setting a timer. I usually try to do about 20 reps or a minute. Do what’s best for you!
  • There are tons of different names for this exercise, but I call them hip tips! Lay down on carpet or a mat (whatever is comfortable) and lift your legs to a 90-degree angle. For me, I have to place my hands under me to be able to do it. But if it’s easy enough for you, place your hands under your head. Take your legs from 90-degrees to parallel with the ground.Chelsea Crockett - Russian Twists Don’t let them touch the ground as you lower them! Then raise them back up and repeat for as many reps based on your own ability.
  • If you haven’t heard of Russian twists, then get ready to be amazed! These don’t seem to be as hard as other ab workouts, but they work your lower abs just as much. Pick up your legs and upper body like the picture on the right. Move your arms from side to side, touching the ground after each movement. You can hold a weight or medicine ball, too. Seems pretty easy at first but just wait!

Which lower ab workout is your favorite? Share it with me so I can give it a try!

How to Keep Your Eye Makeup from Running

How to Keep Your Eye Makeup from Running
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsea-crockett-How-to-Keep-Your-Eye-Makeup-from-Running.jpg

Although summer is the most difficult season when it comes to keeping your makeup from melting off your face, no season is immune to the dangers of running makeup! Here are some makeup artist-tested ways to keep your eye makeup from running during the day.mascara

  1. Powder it up: After lining your upper lids, go over it with translucent powder using a fine liner brush. When it comes to lower lashes, use a seer pressed powder along your lash line before and after applying eyeliner.
  2. Moisturize wisely: Extra moisture on your face will make your makeup smudge, so keep the moisturizer low key around your eyes before applying makeup.
  3. Try waterproof: Use waterproof eyeshadows and pencils to keep your eyes smudge-free! It is the simplest solution.

Not even an emotional Adele music video will make your makeup smudge!

The "3 Miles or 30 Minutes" Exercise Rule

The "3 Miles or 30 Minutes" Exercise Rule
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-3-miles-or-30-minutes.jpg

It can be hard to find time to work out, especially in the winter when the days are so much shorter and colder! That is probably why, during the winter months, we start to pack on a few pounds. Dieting is never easy, and spending hours at the gym just isn’t realistic, so I found a great realistic workout plan! Ill explain.

It is called the “3 miles or 30 minutes” plan. It was created by a celebrity trainer! It is really simple. Every day you should either run or walk 3 miles, or if you cannot do that, work out for 30 minutes. 30 minutes of your day is nothing! This sort of plan downloadhelps you stay active during the week with little time commitment. It is easy to stick with this because you can easily do a 30 minute youtube workout in your living room, or if you have time, go on a 3 mile walk or run! Trying to do crazy hard bootcamps or strenuous workout classes frequently may make you dread working out and may discourage you from it, so just try this “3 or 30” rule out!

If you are trying to lose weight, stay healthy, or maintain your weight, try out this rule for yourself! It is totally easy to do and will get you in the habit of working out every day!

XOXO, Chels

I crave French fries a lot. Like a LOOOTTT. Who doesn’t? They are salty crunchy goodness…mmm… What if I told you that you can get all of the delicious crunch and taste of a French fry, but in a healthier form? Introducing: green bean fries!

Ingredients:

  • Salt and pepper to tasteDSC_0939-1024x685
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1-2 pounds washed and trimmed fresh green beans
  • ½ cup flour
  • 2 large beaten eggs

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 425, then line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil. Spray the foil lightly with cooking spray. In a bowl combine the bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. Put the flour in a smaller bowl and place the beaten eggs in a separate bowl as well. Take a handful of green beans and dip them into the flour, then eggs, then bread crumb mixture. Make sure they are coated with crumbs really good! After they are covered, place them in a single layer onto the baking sheet. Put the pan in the oven and bake for around 10-12 minutes. Let them cool, then eat them up!

How to Maintain Your False Lashes

How to Maintain Your False Lashes
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsea-crockett-How-to-Maintain-Your-False-Lashes.jpg

I don’t wear false lashes very much, but I have a few friends who swear by them. They say you can reuse them 5-10 times, but after a while the glue and mascara starts to build up on them and make them yucky! Here is the best method to clean your falsies to get the most use out of them.

You will need:

  • Small bowl or cupLC3
  • Oil based eye makeup remover (or coconut oil or olive oil)
  • Tweezers
  • Tissue

Once you have removed your false lashes, drop them in your small bowl or cup. Pour makeup remover or oil over the lashes until they are completely covered. Let them sit for about an hour or you can even do it overnight. After they have soaked, use your tweezers to gently swish them around in the oil to loosen up any glue and mascara left over on the lashes. Use the tweezers to place the lashes on top of a tissue to help soak up some of the oil, then use the tweezers to pick off the remaining glue. Place a few tissues on top of the lashes and let them sit for an hour or so to absorb any of the leftover oil. This is the last step! The lashes should now be mascara and glue-free!

Put the lashes back in the original container to store them! Good as new.

XOXO, Chels

DIY Shower Soothers

DIY Shower Soothers
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-diy-shower-soothers.jpg

During the winter months, sinus infections wreak havoc on so many of us! Stuffy noses are the absolute worst! If you are looking for a way to breathe easier and get some sweet relief, try out these homemade shower soothers! You put them in the shower with you while you bathe and they help clear you right up! Plus, they are much better for you than the store bought ones. And much cheaper!

Ingredients:

  • About 1 1/2 cups of baking sodaimages
  • About 2/3 cup of water
  • Essential Oils: Rosemary, Lavender and Eucalyptus

Before getting started, preheat your oven to 350F. Add the baking soda to a mixing bowl and slowly add in the water. Your mixture should look a little like pancake batter! Stir together, then scoop your mixture into muffin tins that have paper muffin liners in them, one tablespoon per muffin hole. Place the muffin tin in the oven for 20 minutes, then remove them. Add a few drops of each essential oil to the discs and let them cool completely. Once they have cooled, pop them out of the muffin tin and store them in a plastic bag. Toss one in the shower next time you are feeling stuffy and prepare to be amazed!

XOXO, Chels

Easter Treats!

Easter Treats!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Chelsea-Crockett-carrot-chocolate-covered-strawberries1.jpg

Easter is a wonderful time to whip up some tasty treats in the kitchen!  With all the festivities going on, why not bring the perfect dessert to your Easter occasion.  I’ve got a few creative and delicious treats that everyone will love.  Plus, they’re easy to make!

Who doesn’t love chocolate covered strawberries?!  I can’t get enough of them!  A twist on the classic chocolate covered strawberry is to turn them into carrots!  Start by melting down white chocolate, using a small dab of vegetable oil, and adding orange food coloring to it.  Fully dip each strawberry in the orange chocolate so only the stem shows.  Finish them off by drizzling the extra chocolate you have over the strawberries with a spoon.  They’ll look exactly like little carrots!  They’re the perfect grab and go dessert.   Chelsea Crockett- bunny tails

Another one of my favorite Easter desserts are bunny tails.  All you need is an 8-ounce package of cream cheese, 4-5 cups of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of almond extract, and a bag of shredded coconut.  Begin by softening the cream cheese and beating it until it is fluffy.  Slowly add the powdered sugar in, while mixing, until it becomes dough.  Once the dough becomes thick, roll it into 1-inch balls, and roll them into the coconut.  These can be served room temperature or chilled.  Enjoy!

I hope these cute, little desserts brighten up your Easter party.  Whether it’s a family lunch/dinner or a big festivity, remember the reason for the season!

Love,

            Chelsea

How to Cover Up Stubborn Redness with Makeup

How to Cover Up Stubborn Redness with Makeup
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsea-crockett-How-to-Cover-Up-Stubborn-Redness-with-Makeup.jpg

Okay so i"m going to be real with you here for a minute. Last week I used a pore strip on my nose to get some blackheads out of there. I accidentally left it on too long and ended up peeling off some of my skin with the pore strip. OKAY OUCHHHH. It was not fun. Plus, my nose has been a red mess this week. Thank goodness I know a few makeup tricks to hide it! If you have redness from acne scars or rosacea, or pesky pore strips, keep reading to learn how to cover it up.

  1. Prep with primer: Apply a primer to your skin to make sure your makeup stays on all day. Primer also creates a barrier between your skin and makeup to prevent irritation.tumblr_inline_mw1721SkOq1qdfkq5
  2. Use tinted concealer: Pick a yellow or green tinted concealer to fight the red tones on your skin.
  3. Use a brush: Apply your concealer using a large brush to cover a wide area so you get coverage without going too overboard.
  4. Top it off with foundation: Use a brush to apply foundation over the concealer.
  5. Finish with powder: Take a yellow toned setting powder and press it into the skin to help your makeup stay in place alllll day long.

Hopefully these tips help you cover up that redness so you can feel confident in your own skin (literally!).

XOXO, Chels

Mac "N Cheese in a Mug

Mac "N Cheese in a Mug
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsea-crockett-mac-n-cheese-in-a-mug.jpg

The weather where I live is pretty chilly, and by pretty chilly I mean downright freezing. And when the weather is cold, there is nothing better than a nice hot snack to warm your tummy right up. If you are looking for an easy, 5 minute meal for one, then look no further! Here is mac n cheese in a mug.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup elbow noodles9176570759_d6f2fb9f81_b1
  • ½ cup milk or water (milk if you want creamy noodles)
  • ½ cup finely shredded cheddar cheese

Add the milk/water and noodles to an oversized mug and place it on a large plate just incase you have spillage while it is in the microwave. Microwave the mug on the plate for 1 minute, then stir, and microwave another minute. Stir it again, then check your noodles. If they aren’t quite done, microwave them an additional 3o seconds. After the noodles are cooked, if you are using water, pour out the water that is left, and if you are using milk don’t pour it out. Add in the cheese and stir well. Now you are ready to dig in!

So, if you want some yummy comfort food but don’t want to make the whole box, make your own mug!

XOXO, Chels

DIY Simple Travel Hacks

DIY Simple Travel Hacks

A girl who likes to travel can never know too many travel tips! Anything that makes the process of getting from one place to another easier should definitely be brought to our attention. I found a few DIY travel hacks that make packing and traveling simpler and easier on your part!

  • Jewelry can be one of the trickiest things to pack. It can often get tangled or simply lost in your suitcase. One way to sort your earrings is by using an old pill separator. Put a different pair in each of the different days so they don’t get lost or mixed together.
  • Another way I’ve seen people store their earrings is in empty chapstick tubes. Depending on how many you need to take, pick the best method for you!
  • Use a pot holder for storing your straightener or curler. It works as a heat-safe travel case so you don’t have to spend the money on an actual one!Chelsea Crockett - Headphone Hack
  • For chargers or headphones, use an old glasses case like the picture on the right. Wrap them up to save some space and simply line them up so they don’t get tangled together!
  • Instead of throwing a bunch of bobby pins in your bag, use an empty tic tac case. They fit perfectly!
  • To prevent shampoo or conditioner spills, use plastic wrap to cover the lids or place the entire container in a large Ziploc bag. Especially with altitude changes, this tip can be extremely helpful!

There’re so many more tips and hacks that can be extremely useful for travelers! Find the ones that benefit you and make your life easier!

Love, Chelsea

Throw Paint Eggs!

Throw Paint Eggs!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/chelsea-crockett-paint-eggs.jpg

Do you and your family get together on Easter? If so, I have a crazy fun family game idea. It involves paint, eggs, and canvas or a poster board! Sounds like fun to me! What you will need:

 Emptied eggshells

egg painting 112

  • Paint (preferably washable)
  • A canvas, or you could use poster board or paper

Filling the eggs with paint is super easy, you can just save the shells of the eggs you eat. Rinse the shells out and put them the carton to dry. Now all you do is pour paint into the empty egg shells! You can use whatever colors you want. Set up a canvas or poster board in the grass and you can all take turns throwing paint filled eggs at it! It will look so cool when you are done, and you can let it dry and keep it to remember that Easter! Your family will have a blast throwing (and sometimes missing).

This idea kind of reminds me of the scene in “Princess Diaries” when Mia and her mom are throwing darts at paint-filled balloons, am I right?

Get messy!

XOXO, Chels

DIY Essential Oil Face Scrub

DIY Essential Oil Face Scrub
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsea-crockett-diy-essential-oil-face-scrub.jpg

Exfoliation is key to clear skin. It makes your skin smooth, scrubs the dead skin off, and helps clear your pores! Today’s diy face wash is all natural and gives you all the benefits of a store bought exfoliant without the harsh chemicals. It combines baking soda (which is much less harsh on your skin than salt and sugar which are common exfoliants), coconut oil (which helps kill bacteria and decrease acne), and frankincense essential oil (which helps prevent wrinkles and regenerate healthy skin cells).

Instructions:71jYKlAFO-L._SY355_

  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 5/10 drops frankincense oil
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

All you have to do is mix all of these ingredients together and store them in a container with a lid. That is it! To use it, gently rub a teaspoon or two into your skin using circular motions and then rinse off with warm water.

Exfoliation is key to healthy skin! Make this concoction part of your weekly routine to keep your skin glowing and clean.

XOXO, Chels

How to Make the Perfect Messy Bun

How to Make the Perfect Messy Bun
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-How-to-Make-the-Perfect-Messy-Bun.jpg

Why is it that messy buns are harder to do than regular buns? The disheveled, effortless, “undone” look is way harder to achieve than people think. I wish I could look like I rolled out of bed with great messy hair, but I can never seem to get it right. Luckily I found a fool-proof way to get the perfect messy bun every time. Here is how!

  1. Pull your hair into a loose ponytail as high or low as you want. Don’t worry about smoothing out bumps or slicking your hair back, you want it to look imperfect.Messy-Buns-Blonde-Hair
  2. Separate the hair in your pony into 2 sections and tease them. Teasing is the key! It will change your bun game by giving you texture and volume.
  3. Take your 2 teased sections and wrap the hair in opposite directions like you are creating a topknot. Instead of pinning your hair neatly into a bun, pin bobby pins near the ends of your hair, leaving the ends splay out around the bun. This gives it the messy look! Pull the bun apart a little with your hands to mess it up even more.

The best part about messy buns is that they work better on dirty hair, so they work great on second-day hair, AKA you can sleep in longer instead of washing your hair! :)

How to get the Most out of Your Makeup

How to get the Most out of Your Makeup
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-How-to-get-the-Most-out-of-Your-Makeup-.jpg

When I run out of my favorite tube of lipstick, a little part of me dies inside. Okay, that’s probably a little too dramatic, but I’m sure you can agree that it is a total bummer! Yes, you can just go to the store and get a new one, but why not try and use every last bit of yours? Here are a few ways to get the most out of your makeup and make it last a bit longer.

  1. Repair broken eyeshadow, blush, or face powder with a dab of rubbing alcohol. Do you have a tray of blush that you only used twice before you dropped it and cracked it? No worries. Crush the rest of it up, then add a few drops of rubbing alcohol to it and mix it together. Smooth it out so that it is spread out and even, and then let it dry! Good as new.broken-lipstick-1
  2. Keep your powders from breaking altogether by placing a cotton pad in them while traveling or when they are in your bag.
  3. Reattach broken lipstick using heat. Have a parent help you, and use a lighter to heat the broken ends of your lipstick, then reattach them together.
  4. Let your mascara sit in a glass of warm water to loosen it up when it is getting dry and clumpy. If it really needs some thinning, add some drops of contact solution to it.
  5. Put on primer before doing your eyeshadow. This one is a wee bit different from the others, but it really does help your makeup go further because you don’t have to use as much to make it stand out!

Makeup is expensive, we all know that! Hopefully these tips help you get your money’s worth out of your favorite products.

XOXO, Chels

Oatmeal and Honey Face Scrub
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/chelsea-crockett-oatmeal-honey-face-scrub.jpg

Teenage girls have to deal with a lot. One of the biggest bummers is acne! Luckily nature gives us lots of useful tools to combat annoyances like pimples. Oatmeal is a great exfoliator and is gentle but effective. Here is an all natural oatmeal mask to help with acne and acne scarring.download

Mix 2 tbsp of oatmeal with half a cup of raw milk. Next, add 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil and 1 tbsp of honey to the mixture and mix well. Let the paste sit until it comes smooth, or about 10 minutes. Now it is time to apply it! Gently smooth it onto your face and massage it in circles for 2-3 minutes. Then rinse it off with cold water!

This yummy smelling face scrub exfoliates the dead skin off and also gives you a moisturized glow! Enjoy your silky soft skin.

Best Hairstyles for Runners

Best Hairstyles for Runners
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/chelsea-crockett-best-hairstyles-for-runners-.jpg

As a runner, I know how hard it is to find hair styles that work for working out. When I am running, I hate the feeling of my ponytail swooping back and forth, I hate it when braids hit my back, and I cannot stand hair in my face! There are only a few hair styles I approve of when going on a run for those reasons. Here are my favs!

  1. Low pony: This is the easiest style of them all. Low ponies are better than high because they don’t swoosh around when you’re running. They’re quick to do, and to keep the flyaway hairs out of your face add in a headband.hair
  2. French braid: This one is my go-to running style. I love it because, like a low ponytail, it doesn’t swoosh around when you run, and the braid keeps the hair off of your neck and off of your forehead. Plus it is super cute!
  3. Mini Ponies: This last style is the most complicated, but that being said it is still very easy to do. It is great for ladies with long hair or lots of layers. Grab the section of hair at the top of your head into ponytail. Tie it with an elastic. Gather another section further down and secure it into an elastic, including the top section. Keep this going until you secure the final ponytail with a more durable band.

Having my hair secured while I run is essential for me to have a successful workout. Without having to worry about my hair falling out or getting in my face I am free to run as I please!

XOXO, Chels
