Green Concealer 101

Green Concealer 101
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/chelsea-crockett-green-concealer-101.jpg
Concealer comes in many shapes and colors. The specific formula we will be discussing today is the green sort. When I first saw green concealer I could not figure out what it was. Green? On your face? But, little did I know that green concealer is used to correct redness on your face because green and red are opposites on the color wheel. Here is how to use green concealer to your advantage!

  1. A little goes a long way: The last thing you want to do is give yourself a green hue. Only apply the concealer to the spots where it is needed and then blend it well with your skin-tone 300concealer.

  2. Match dem colors: The intensity of the green you use depends on your skin tone. You will know it is the right shade when it seamlessly blends to your skin and hides any blemishes under it.

  3. Think it through: Think to yourself if you really need color correction. The main goal is to show as much of your natural skin as possible!

I went to my neighborhood Ulta and picked up some NYX brand green concealer and was able to get some great use out of it by using the tips above!

XOXO,

Chels

Co-Ords: The Newest Summer Trend

Co-Ords: The Newest Summer Trend
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Chelsea-Crockett-Co-Ords.jpg
We’ve all watched rompers, high waisted shorts, and crop tops come in style… and now there’s a trend that combines all three. Co-Ordinates, or “Co-Ords” for short, are totally the new craze!

Co-Ords are patterned sets that look like a romper but the top and bottom aren’t connected. So if you want, you can mix and match if you have multiple sets. I didn’t even know how popular they were until I looked them up myself! The store Topshop carries some of the cutest sets with some of the prettiest designs and patterns.Chelsea Crockett - Co Ord Set

Chelsea Crockett - Co Ord SetThe fun thing about co-ords is that you really can dress them up or dress them down, depending on the pattern and style. The set on the right is more casual, so you can throw it on before you hit the mall or a movie with friends! But the set on the left you might wear to a nice dinner or a fancy date with a pair of heels or wedges! The possibilities are endless. (If they go together, you can even mix and match different colors and patterns!)

If you want to check them out, you can find them throughout your local mall or online!

Homemade Lipstick

Homemade Lipstick
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/chelsea-crockett-homemade-lipstick-.jpg
I am always looking for a fun makeup DIY. Not surprisingly, the lipstick you buy at the store is full of harmful chemicals. Today I will teach you how to make your very own chemical-free, inexpensive lipstick!

Ingredients for the base:lipstick

  • 1 teaspoon beeswax pastilles

  • 1 teaspoon shea butter

  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

To add color to the base:
  • If you want red lipstick: add 1 drop of natural red food coloring to the base.

  • For brown or tan hues: add 1/4 teaspoon of coca powder and a tiny pinch of cinnamon to get the shade you want

Melt the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil in a glass jar without a lid in a small pot of simmering water. When melted, remove from heat and add any optional ingredients like color or scent. Once all ingredients are mixed well but still liquid, use a dropper to pour into the container you are storing it in.  Leave to cool for at least half an hour and then store it in a cool place!

Viola, you are now a lipstick extraordinaire!

XOXO, Chels

How to Lose Weight While Walking

How to Lose Weight While Walking
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/chelsea-crockett-How-to-Lose-Weight-While-Walking.jpg
You don’t have to be sweating your tail off in the gym or running 4 miles a day to lose weight, you can shed pounds by simply walking! Running and other cardio exercises can be really hard on your body and cause a lot of wear and tear on your joints. Here is how to make the most of your walk!walking-shoes-530Walk faster: By simply walking faster you can burn way more calories and really improve your fitness! If you walk briskly you also reduce the risk of heart disease more than a run that burns the same number of calories.

How to walk faster: Stand tall with your shoulders back. This helps prevent lower back stress. Bend your arms at 90 degrees and swing your arm as you walk. Also, roll off each foot and push off your toes at the end of every stride. This keeps your foot on the ground a bit longer making for stronger, shorter faster steps.

Slip on the right sneakers: Having the right shoes is important! You don’t want to injure yourself. You want shoes that are flexible and roll with each step. You also want beveled heels that helps with heel-to-toe rolling. The next important feature is that they are designed for walking not running.

You don’t have to be a runner to burn major calories! Lace up your walking shoes and get on out there!

Lazy Girl Nail Ideas

Lazy Girl Nail Ideas
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/chelsea-crockett-lazy-girl-nail-ideas-.jpg
I love having my nails done all cute, but whose got the time?! Giving yourself a cute mani is a time consuming task, and quite frankly, I never have time! Here are lazy girl manicures that don’t take much time and are super easy.

  1. Simple polka dots: Paint your nails one solid color and then dip the end of a bobby pin into a different colored polish to create polka dots on your nails! Simple and quick.lazy nails

  2. Geometric: tape off little triangles at the tips of your nails and then paint inside the triangles. After the paint is dry you can peel off the tape and paint over your nails with clear polish!lazy nails 1

  3. Glitter French mani: Paint your nails a solid color and then fade glitter at the tips for a subtle “French tip” look! This is super quick but totally adorable.

Eyelash Curler Tips and Tricks

Eyelash Curler Tips and Tricks
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/chelsea-crockett-eyelash-curler-tips-and-tricks-.jpg
Let’s face it, unfortunately we all weren’t blessed with naturally long, beautifully curled lashes. Eyelash curlers are supposed to be our solution! They are meant to help our eyelashes to appear full and curled, but sometimes they fall short of their goal. There are a few reasons why your eyelash curler may not be hitting the mark! Here are a few of them.

  1. The curling pad is worn out: Having good pads on your curler is super important! Your curling pads need to be Eyelash-curler-review-184427_Lchanged every three months to ensure you are getting the most out of your curler.

  2. Mascara on the lashes: Curling your lashes when they have mascara on them is no bueno! This causes your lashes to stick to the pads and that is just crazy painful. Curl your lashes, THEN apply mascara.

  3. It isn’t the right size: A lot of eyelash curlers are so cheap that they are not made large enough to fit all of your lashes in the clamp, which causes some lashes to be curled more than others, or some not to be curled at all!

  4. Brush those lashes: When you brush out your lashes before you curl them, you ensure that there will be no “crimps” or tangles in your lashes.

Eyelash curlers can look pretty intimidating. As long as you follow these steps and practice, curling those lashes will be a breeze!

Why You Should Kick Body Wash to the Curb

Why You Should Kick Body Wash to the Curb
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/neutrogena-body-clear.jpg
There is a new beauty trend on the block, and it entails cutting body wash out of the equation. Most people cringe at the thought! How do you get clean without body wash? How can you even smell good after a shower without it! A lot of beauty gurus, including Michelle Phan, are going the cleansing oils route. Here are the facts so you can choose for yourself whether you want to ditch body wash.neutrogena-body-clear

There is nothing wrong with using soap to wash off the day’s yuckyness. Dermatologists tell us not to shower every day, but when you need a little refresher, your body wash can kick dead skin and oil to the curb. But, soaps leave behind a residue that can throw off the natural pH balance of your skin and trigger extra oil production. When you use only water to wash, you need to really scrub your skin to wash off all of the impurities. Although it will take your skin a little while to get used to the new routine, you will be so happy you ditched chemical-filled body wash! Your body is now able to hold onto the natural moisturizers your skin produces, your skin pH becomes normal, and you save money by not buying it!

The “no body wash” routine isn’t for everyone, but for those brave souls, it will work wonders!

Do"s and Dont"s of Red Lips

Do"s and Dont"s of Red Lips
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/chelsea-crockett-Dos-and-Donts-of-Red-Lips-.jpg
Red lipstick is always a good idea! Wanting to dress up an outfit? Put on some red lipstick. Feeling a little sassy? Put on some red lipstick. Need a confidence boost? Put on some red lipstick. Red lips are surprisingly versatile, but you also need to know how to properly apply it before you dive right in! Here are the dos and don’ts.

Do:

  • Some prep work: If you want your lipstick to last, then exfoliate and hydrate them.

  • Keep your eyes simple: You want your look to be balanced, so lean towards a classic look like a smokey or cat eye when you are wearing red lips.2971-red-lips-art_1024x1024

  • Know your undertone: How do you choose your perfect shade of red? By knowing your undertone! Cool undertones look best with cool reds, and warm undertones look best with warm reds.

Don’t:
  • Skimp on lip liner: This step is too vital to skip! Liner helps define your lips and keeps your color from bleeding.

  • Be scared to layer: Layer your lip color and find new shades that you love! Instead of going out and buying a new lip color, layer colors you already have and see if they work for you!

  • Wear with bright colors: Just like we said earlier, you want to keep the rest of your makeup simple when you do red lips. Stay away from pinks, blues, greens, and other bold shades that will clash with your lips.

Now you are fully prepared to rock the socks off of red lipstick!

Warm Weather Beauty Musts

Warm Weather Beauty Musts
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/chelsea-crockett-warm-weather-beauty-musts-1.jpg
Spring and summer are characterized by warm temperatures, great times with friends, fun adventures with family, and again, warm temperatures. Rising temps can do a number on our beauty regimen, making our hair frizzy and our makeup drippy. Here are a few tips on how to warm weather-proof your look this season!53a086c912c37_-_cos-suave-dry-shampoo-0311-blog

  1. Avoid sweaty styling: There is nothing worse than blowdrying your hair in the summer and being a sweaty mess after your hair is finished drying. I mean, you JUST got out of the shower and you are already a smelly sight. One way to avoid this is to apply deodorant to the back of your neck a few minutes before you blow dry.

  2. Update your dry shampoo techniques: In the summer, it is actually better to apply your dry shampoo at night. Spray your roots at night so that it can absorb the oil and sweat throughout the night.

  3. Aloe vera to the rescue: It is inevitable. You are bound to get a sunburn at some point this summer! Even when you apply it meticulously, you are bound to miss a spot. In anticipation, fill up an ice cube tray with aloe vera gel and keep it in the freezer for those days when you burn crisp.

  4. Sweat stains be gone: It is embarrassing to admit, but sweat stains accompany the warm weather. Squeeze lemon juice onto the sweat stains before tossing the clothes in the laundry. The acidity in the juice will take the stains right out.

Follow these tips and your look will be totally summer-proof!

Sweet & Sour Treat: Candied Grapes

Sweet & Sour Treat: Candied Grapes
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/chelsea-crockett-candied-grapes.jpg
How many of you have to have a snack in hand when you are watching a movie? I am going to guess that a lot of hands went up! I love to have some popcorn or candy to munch on, but my absolute favorite movie time candy is sour patch kids. Those sweetly sour little devils are my kryptonite. Here is a healthy alternative to sour patch kids…Candied-Grapes-from-Rachel-Schultz

Ingredients:

  • Grapes

  • 1 box of melon fusion Jello

Remove the grapes from their stems and rinse them with water. Strain them in a colander. Pour the gelatin onto a plate and coat the grapes in gelatin by rolling them or by using a spoon to sift the powder onto them. Refrigerate them for 1 hour to allow the gelatin to set, and then enjoy your tangy treat!

XOXO, Chels

Greek Yogurt Face Mask

Greek Yogurt Face Mask
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Chelsea-crockett-greek-yogurt-face-mask-.jpg
Quick and easy are two words that describe my ideal beauty remedy. That is exactly what this next face mask is! All you need is cotton balls, some plain Greek yogurt, and a probiotic capsule to make your very own nourishing face mask. The Greek yogurt contains lactose enzymes which work hard to rid your skin of dirt. This combo can also help prevent breakouts and reduce redness!images (4)

What you will need:

  • Probiotic capsule

  • Cold plain Greek yogurt

  • Cotton balls

This mask is super simple to make. All you do is split open the probiotic capsule and mix it with 3 to 4 tablespoons of Greek yogurt in a small bowl. Use a cotton ball to apply the mixture to your face in an even layer and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and pat it dry with a towel. You should now have soft silky skin and see a reduction in redness!

Must-Know Aloe Vera Summer Hacks

Must-Know Aloe Vera Summer Hacks
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Chelsea-Crockett-Aloe-Vera-Hacks.png
I’m a firm believer in getting outside and spending my long summer days in the sun. But sometimes sunscreen or clouds can’t shield you from the after-effects of the sun. But luckily, aloe vera can provide some major relief for when the sun strikes!

Simply moisturizing your burn with aloe will do the trick, but I’ve learned a few hacks on how to use it to your benefit even more! First off, make your bottle of aloe cold by setting Chelsea Crockett - Aloe Ice Cubesit in your refrigerator for a couple hours. Your sunburn will thank you when you apply the reliever ice cold. If you want to go to the extreme, you can even make aloe ice cubes to rub on your burns! Just purchase an ice cube mold and fill each slot with aloe vera. Treat them like you would normal ice cubes. Wait a few hours for them to solidify and pop them out of the mold when needed!

Apart from soothing sunburns, did you know aloe can actually help get rid of acne? It contains zinc and other minerals that help improve blemishes and other damaged skin. Aloe also helps bring a glow to your skin. Its uses don’t stop after aiding sunburns. There’s an array of tricks that aloe can be used for. So… you’re getting tons of uses of products for the price of one :)!

Stay Cool This Summer!

Stay Cool This Summer!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Chelsea-Crockett-Stay-Cool-This-Summer.jpg
I don’t know about you, but where I live gets HOT HOT HOT in the summer!  If you don’t have a pool or an ocean near-by, staying cool outside can be tough.  I don’t want to have to stay inside!  I’ve come up with a few ways to beat the summer heat without keeping a bucket of emergency ice cubes nearby.

Staying hydrated in the heat is extremely important!  Sipping on an ice colChelsea Crockett- summer ice cubesd glass of sweet tea or lemonade is the perfect summer drink…until the ice cubs start to melt.  Try freezing tea, lemonade, juice, etc. into ice cube trays to add to your drink.  You can even throw in some fresh fruit.  This way, your drink will never get watered down while you’re trying to stay hydrated!  If you like to work out outside, go early in the morning or late in the evening.  You’ll notice, by going at a cooler time, that your workout will be longer and you’ll have more energy.  Wearing baseball hats on a bad hair day or outside is a must!  Before leaving the house, sprinkle ice cold water on top of your head before quickly placing your hat back on.  This will keep you cooler long.  You can even keep your sunscreen and aloe in the refrigerator for an instant cool down.

Be smart this summer, wear sunscreen, and remember to stay hydrated!  If it’s too hot outside, use your judgment and opt for a trip to the movies or mall!  Have a great summer Insiders!

XOXO,

Chelsea

Sweat-Proof Summer Makeup

Sweat-Proof Summer Makeup
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Chelsea-Crockett-Sweat-Proof-Summer-Makeup1.jpg
Makeup can be hard to wear in the summer.  If you live somewhere like me, then you know what I’m talking about.  The constant heat and humidity almost melts the makeup right off my face; not to mention the oily skin!  I’ve got a few beauty hacks for you to try to minimize sticky, sweaty summer makeup.  Don’t worry ladies, when there’s a will there’s a way! Chelsea Crockett- Sweat-Proof Summer Makeup

If you have oily skin right off the bat, try a mattifying moisturizer.  This will give any foundation you apply that matte look.  You can also opt for a matte powder foundation.  I suggest staying away from liquid!  I also like to keep my setting spray in the fridge to automatically reduce puffiness as my makeup sets.  Although it can be annoying to take off, it’s important to stick to waterproof makeup.  This will reduce running, especially around the eye area!  It’s so easy to accidently wipe your makeup off when you’re sweating!  Mascara can start to run too!  By damping your eye brush with water before applying your shadow, you will create a glaze and keep it from rubbing off in the heat!

If you follow these simple tips next time you’ll be out in the heat, you’ll keep a flawless face!!

XOXO,

New & Improved Swimsuit Styles

New & Improved Swimsuit Styles
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Chelsea-Crockett-Swimsuit-Styles.jpg
Of course you have the bikinis, the simple one pieces, the bandeau tops, the list goes on and on. It seems in the past year, so many new styles have suddenly made their way into the fashion world. They’re super fun and unique (despite their sometimes nasty tan lines!). Here are some styles that are a must-have in your wardrobe!Chelsea Crockett - High Neck Swimsuit

We’ve all seen the high-neck shirts and dresses that are to die for. Well now they have high-neck bikini tops! Stores like Forever 21, Pacsun, and Victoria’s Secret have all started to carry them. Although I wouldn’t recommend wearing them for tanning or being out in the sun all day, they’re still very different and fun to play around with!

It seems as though high waisted shorts are still pretty popular. And to follow those, there are now high waisted swimsuit bottoms as well! Once again I wouldn’t recommend them for tanning, but for a pool party or a day at the water park why not? You could buy a plain colored pair and match it with multiple tops! Whatever your style is.

In my opinion, one piece swimsuits are extremely overrated. There are tons and tons of unique styles and patterns that you can rock! Plus, modest is hottest :). Let me know what style you like the best!

Summer Ensembles for Every Occasion

Summer Ensembles for Every Occasion
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/chelsea-crockett-Summer-Ensembles-for-Every-Occasion-.jpg
During the summer, for me, every day is different. One day I could be going to a friend’s house to bum around by the pool, the next I could be all dressed up hitting the city with some gal pals. Whatever the case may be, I always need to be dressed for the occasion. Here are three outfits that summarize my summer, from casual, to semi casual, to dressy.

  1. Casual: If I am heading to town with friends or hanging out at someone’s house, my usual go-to outfit is a simple white tank and some faded, ripped jeans or cutoff shorts. This outfit is just casual enough to be comfy and cute at the same time.summer

  2. Semi-casual: If I am headed into the city for the day or to a friend’s party, I love to wear a floral romper. They aren’t too dressy but aren’t too casual. They are the perfect happy medium! Plus, they are so totally adorable. I wish I could fill my closet with them!summer 1

  3. Dressy: If I am going to dinner in the city or going to a nicer summer event, I will opt for a flowy dress and sweet accessories. This white dress is classic and feminine, plus the hat gives it a boho, hipster flare.summer 2What is YOUR summer go-to outfit? Comment below!

Sensitive vs. Tough Skin... How Do I Know?

Sensitive vs. Tough Skin... How Do I Know?
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Chelsea-Crockett-Sensitive-Skin.jpg

You may be young and starting to enter the makeup world. Or maybe you want to switch to a new brand to save money or simply switch things up! Whatever the case may be, you need to know your skin. Buying new products can be dangerous if you don’t know if your skin is sensitive. You’re in luck because there are a few ways to tell:

  1. The easiest way to tell (obviously) is if the products you’ve already tried are accompanied by redness and stinging. Also, if you have an increase in acne and breakouts, avoid those products! Sometimes even avoiding the brand as a whole is your safest option.Chelsea Crockett - Clinique Foundation
  2. Another good, natural way to get to know your skin is to pay attention to how it reacts to the weather/sun. If your skin easily turns red and splotchy while being outside, then you’ll most likely react to insensitive products the same way.
  3. Wherever you go to buy your makeup, whether it be a drugstore or somewhere like Sephora or Ulta, a lot of products will have freebies or samples. This way you can try before you buy! If you see an immediate negative reaction, obviously your skin won’t react well to other products. A great brand for sensitive skin is Clinique. You won’t have to worry about redness or breakouts!

Good luck insiders! - Chels

Banana Split Bites

Banana Split Bites
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Chelsea-Crockett-Banana-Split-Bites.jpg
Banana splits are delicious. Now there’re banana split concretes, banana split pies, banana split everything! One of the yummiest (and not to forget easiest) recipes I’ve found on Pinterest is banana split bites. So… here’s what you need! You’re welcome :).

For the ingredients you’ll need:Chelsea Crockett - Banana Split Bites

  • Strawberries, bananas, pineapples

  • Dark or milk chocolate

  • Vegetable oil

  • Chopped nuts

Once you’ve picked up what you need, here are your next steps. First, you’ll need to make your chocolate sauce. Take a teaspoon of oil and melt it with 2.5 oz of chocolate on the stove. While it’s melting, cut the strawberries in half and the bananas in bite-size pieces. Do the same with the pineapple! Put one piece of each fruit on a skewer and dip one side into the chocolate sauce. Quickly dip the chocolate covered fruit into the nuts. Finally, set them out onto a sheet to harden! Your final treat should look similar to the one on the right :)!

YUM! Love, Chels

The Importance of Mission Work

The Importance of Mission Work
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Chelsea-Crockett-Mission-Work.jpg
As you all know, I’m very involved in my church. I absolutely love going on different youth trips whether it’s to camp or even mission work! Mission work is a great way to serve a community while also spreading the word of God. This summer I’m fortunate enough to get to go on a mission trip all the way in Alaska. A lot of people ask me why I’m going and don’t understand the importance of it. Well… here is my answer!Chelsea Crockett - Mission Trip

Mission work doesn’t have to be in another country or state. It can simply be in the community you live in. Sometimes very passionate missionaries travel to third world countries for their work. But for us teenagers, it can be hard to raise money and find the time to do so. Another misconception is that you may be too young to actually do work along with your mission. Simply proclaiming the gospel to those who may not know it is all you need to do!

There are two verses that clear up any confusion about mission work. Matthew 28:19 says “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit…” 1 Peter 3:15 says “but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence…” Both of these verses indicate that we should tell anyone and everyone our testimonies and how they can be saved, too.

So go tell your neighbors, your friends, anyone who needs to know! You don’t have to be in a different state to do so!

Are You Drinking Enough Water?

Are You Drinking Enough Water?
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Chelsea-Crockett-Are-You-Drinking-Enough-Water.jpg
In the summer fun it’s easy to get caught up in the fruity summer drinks, fresh juices, or soda.  It’s also easy to get distracted and forget about water all together!  It is especially important to keep up with your water intake in the hot summer months.  Not only does it keep you healthy and hydrated, but it has a multitude of benefits for your body including clear skin, more energy, and good digestion.  Check out a few of my red flags below to see if you’re drinking enough water!Chelsea Crockett- drinking water

  1. Are you feeling tired all the time or constantly getting headaches? This could be the result of dehydration.  Water keeps our bodies most important organs functioning correctly.  If you aren’t getting enough H20, your body will start to slow down.

  2. Are you still hungry after a big meal? Chances are you didn’t take advantage of that large glass of water with your food!  Water can fill you up when you feel hungry, but shouldn’t. It also helps your stomach break down foods!

  3. Is your skin starting to look dull? Are large black circles forming under your eyes?  This could be the result of your completion dying for extra water!

  4. Are you achy? Are you still sore from that workout a week ago?  Water acts as a natural lubricant for joints, which making them move easier.  If you’re feeling like a 100 year old woman, drink a large glass of water!

I challenge you to up your water intake this summer!  You’ll be glad you did!

What Happens When You Stop Drinking Soda

What Happens When You Stop Drinking Soda
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/chelsea-crockett-What-Happens-When-You-Stop-Drinking-Soda-.jpg

Experts say that soda is an addiction that is similar to the addiction people have with drugs alcohol. It may taste good when you are drinking it, but it has terrible effects on your body in the long run. It negatively effects every part of your body, and your health will improve SO much when you replace it with water. Ill explain.

Brain: When you are tired, do you reach for a Diet Coke or a sugary drink? It may give you a temporary energy boost, but after a while soda can actually have a negative effect on your brain. Eventually it can lead to impaired learning and memory! This is because the sugars and saturated fat can influence your brain function. Prevent this by just not drinking soda.why-is-diet-soda-bad-for-you

Teeth: Soda absolutely destroys your teeth, so saying see-ya to it will lead to better teeth and gums. Soda can even do as much damage to your teeth as much as drugs can. Yuck!

Bladder: Soda causes you to need to go to the bathroom urgently and often because it is a diuretic. It also can irritate your bladder and cause infection! Keep your bladder healthy, avoid soda!

Weight loss: One of the easiest ways to lose weight is to cut out soda. Even cutting it down to one soda a day can make a world of a difference. It may be hard, but you will quickly start to see positive results!

I have cut soda out of my diet, now it is your turn!

DIY Natural Scar Remover

DIY Natural Scar Remover
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Chelsea-Crockett-DIY-Natural-Scar-Remover.jpg
Whether you’ve got facial scars as the result of bad acne, an injury, or a surgery, having a scar on your face can be very discouraging.  While some can easily be covered with makeup, others are nearly impossible.  Believe it or not, there is a way to reduce the appearance of scars naturally with your own at-home recipe!  It’s time to banish scarring once and for all!Chelsea Crockett- DIY scar remover

What you’ll need:

  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon of purified water

  • Coconut oil

Create a paste by mixing together the baking soda and water.  Apply to the scarred area for 5 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.  Use your hands to rinse off the mixture instead of using a towel.  You’ll want to be as gentle as possible!  Last, apply coconut oil to the area to moisturize and reduce darkening! Hint: try this before bed, so the coconut oil has enough time to sit.  Repeat this process once a day until the scarring has reduced!

XOXO,

Chelsea

DIY Flash Tattoos

DIY Flash Tattoos
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Chelsea-Crockett-DIY-Flash-Tattoos.png
Flash tattoos are the coolest new summer accessory!  Unfortunately, these tattoos can cost up to $30 only for them to eventually wash away!  Luckily, there is a way to make them.  It’s time to ditch bracelets and rings and opt for fun and easy flash tattoos!

What you’ll need:

  • Eye liner brushes

  • Stencils or washi tape to create your own

  • Setting spray

  • Eye makeup remover

  • Metallic silver waterproof liquid liner or cream shadow

  • Metallic gold waterproof liquid liner or cream shadowChelsea Crockett- washi tape stencil

Start by picking out your stencil.  I love hearts, arrows, or long chevron prints!  If you don’t have a stencil, use washi tape to create your own.  Secure the stencil or tape it to your skin.  Fill in the shapes with your waterproof metallic liner or cream shadow until it looks how you want it.  Let it dry before slowly peeling away the stencil.  Clean up any edges with the eyeliner brush and makeup remover.  Finish your design by securing it with setting spray or even hairspray.

Hope you enjoy showing off your DIY flash tattoo!!

Happy Couple Habits

Happy Couple Habits
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/chelsea-crockett-habits-of-happy-couples-.jpg
If you are in a relationship of have ever been in one, you know that they are a lot of work. Happy couples have a few easy methods that help them, well, stay happy! These little tidbits of advice are things that I have learned and what my friends have learned through the wonderful world of dating.

  1. Smile when you see them: It feels amazing to walk into the room and immediately see your crush’s face light up. It makes you feel so special! Even if you aren’t particularly thrilled to see your man friend, at least act happy to see them! This will set a happy mood for the two of you.happy-couple-valentines-day

  2. Randomly text them: A lot of us are busy throughout the day, so texting someone constantly just isn’t an option. But, a cute random text every once in a while can really brighten their day and them appreciate you so much.

  3. Share your day with them: Every day, take a few minutes to share your days with each other. Tell them your concerns, your goals, your hopes and your frustrations! It will really strengthen your relationship.

  4. Tell them thanks: For everything! Did they hold the door for you? Thank them. Cook you dinner? Thank them. Help you out with homework? Thank them.

  5. Complement the socks off of them: A little complement can go a long way! You know when your guy tells you he likes the way you are wearing your hair, and it makes you smile from ear to ear because you feel valued and treasured? He needs the same feeling from you! By building each other up, you are creating a happy environment!

There are so many more ways to make your relationship a happy one, you just have to be willing to work at it!

Ways to Rock Tie-Dye

Ways to Rock Tie-Dye
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Chelsea-Crockett-Ways-to-Rock-Tie-Dye.jpg
Thanks to festivals and bohemian style, tie-dye is the coolest new print to add to your summer wardrobe!  It’s so easy to wear and can be dressed up or down depending on how you wear it! It’s important to wear tie-dye the right way, or it can be over-powering!  Check out my guide to the perfect tie-dye ensemble!Chelsea Crockett- tie dye shorts

When wearing tie-dye, keeping it subtle is key.  Try going for tie-dye that only involves two colors (for example: navy/white, orange/pink, grey/black).  More than 2 colors can be a bit overbearing!  A tie-dye sun dress paired with an indie-inspired hat and sandals is the perfect boho look!  I also love the flowy shorts and skirts, which have TOTALLY come back into style, with a solid v-neck or tank!

If you just want to use tie-dye as an accessory rather that an outfit item, try a thick head band!  Wear the headband with your hair in a messy, relaxed bun, or down and wavy for a fun touch!  This look can be paired with any casual outfit!

Comment your favorite colors of tie-dye and how you rock the fun print below!

XOXO,

Chelsea

DIY Coconut Oil Toothpaste

DIY Coconut Oil Toothpaste
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/how-to-make-homemade-coconut-oil-toothpaste-600x400.jpg
I am all about making my own beauty products. All natural is totally the way to go! I have also been really into coconut oil lately, so I am trying to find ways to make things with it! I found a recipe on how to make my very own coconut oil toothpaste, and I couldn’t resist sharing it! Here is how to create your very own.

Ingredients:homemade-toothpaste

  • 2 tablespoons warm coconut oil

  • 6 tablespoons baking soda

  • 10 drops mint oil

  • ½ teaspoons fine sea salt

Mix all of your ingredients together in a bowl until they are a creamy paste. Then store it in a container that is easy to use. Baking soda is a great ingredient to help you get white teeth, and coconut oil is antibacterial.

Enjoy your all natural, homemade toothpaste!

DIY Aloe Vera Gel

DIY Aloe Vera Gel
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Chelsea-Crockett-DIY-Aloe-Vera-Gel.jpg
Summer is right around the corner, which means that sunburn season is on its way!  Sometimes sunburns are hard to avoid even when you apply the proper amount of sunscreen.  Running to the store to grab aloe that contains dyes and other chemicals can be annoying, especially if you have sensitive skin.  Luckily, making your own aloe vera gel the all-natural way is simple and cheap!  It’s time to make your own sunburn fighting gel!Chelsea Crockett- aloe vera gel

All you need is an aloe plant and powdered vitamin C.  Start by cutting off an outer leaf.  These are usually the most mature and contain the most aloe (HINT: 1 or 2 large leaves can make almost a cup of aloe gel.  Don’t cut off too many leaves!).  Once you’ve cut each leaf off at the base, set them upright in a cup for 10 minutes to let the yellow resin drain out.  This can be irritating to the skin!  Once the leaf is fully drained, use a vegetable peeler to remove the green part of the plant.  This will leave you with a clear, soft gel that can be scooped out with a spoon.  Scoop out as much gel as you can and place it in a jar.

Vitamin C is a natural preserver, so adding 500mg to every ¼ cup of aloe will keep your gel fresh for up to 2 months.  If you’re planning on using your aloe right away, then you can skip this step!  End by mixing the gel and placing it in the refrigerator.  Happy sunburn relief!

Swimming Peeps Jello Cups

Swimming Peeps Jello Cups
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/chelsea-crockett-Swimming-Peeps-Jello-Cups-.jpg
Peeps are the staple Easter food. They are little chicks of marshmallowy heaven! There are so many cute recipes for them, but here is one of my favorites!Swimming-Peeps-Jello-Cups-3D

Ingredients:

  • 2 boxes blue jello mix

  • 2 cups boiling water

  • 2 cups cold water

  • 1 container cool whip

  • Blue food coloring

  • Chick Peeps

Empty 2 boxes of blue jello mix into a mixing bowl. Heat up 2 cups of water to a boil. Once it boils measure out 2 cups of water and pour it into the jello bowl. Mix the powder with the water and stir it for 2 minutes. Add 2 cups of cold water to the bowl and stir until it is combined. Set out clear plastic cups and divide the jello among the cups. Put them in the fridge for 4 hours. Before serving the dessert add a few drops of blue food coloring to the Cool Whip and mix it in. Top each jello cup with a dollop of Cool Whip and a Peep.

So simple, so easy, so yummy!

XOXO, Chels

Essential Oils 101

Essential oils can be used for almost anything and everything.  From relaxation to beauty regimes to medicine remedies, essential oils are great to have on hand!  So how exactly do you use these oils and what’s the safest way to do so?  Don’t worry Insiders, I’ve got you covered!

Relaxation:

The aroma of essential oils can put your body straight into relaxation mode.  Lavender is perfect for just that.  By burning lavender or sprinkling a few drops of oil on your pillow, you’ll find it easier to fall asleep at night.  It’s also a great stress reliever.  Another great way to use lavender is for a detox bath.  Add a cup of Epsom salt and a few drops of lavender oil to hot water for the perfect de-stressing bath!

Beauty:

Crop Top Fashion

Crop Top Fashion
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/chelsea-crockett-crop-top-fashion-.jpg
Ladies, as the weather gets warmer, the hems of our clothes get inevitably shorter. Crop tops are one of these clothing items. Now, crop tops are just fine, as long as they are worn tastefully. You don’t want to show TOO much skin, dressing like a lady is always a must! Here are a few tasteful ways you can rock your crop tops as the weather gets warmer.crop top 3

  1. Layer: I saw this style on Pinterest and I was hooked! I cannot believe I didn’t think of layering my crop tops like this before. Just wear a loose, sheer shirt under your crop top for a dimensional, fashion-forward look.

  2. Proportions: When you wear a crop top, wear bottoms that are high waisted so that only a sliver of skin shows. We want to keep it classy, am I right? There are so many chic ways to do this, but here is one of my favorites:

  3. Hem: There are some really cute crop tops that have lace or fringe on the hem, so they cover up your tummy and also look super cute! These are the kind I tend to lean towards. Here is one that I think is totally adorable!

See ladies? Crop tops don’t have to make you look scandalous! They can be worn with class and taste.

XOXO, Chels

Crock Pot S"Mores Cake
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Chelsea-Crockett-Crock-Pot-smores-cake.jpg
Are you looking for something to make for your Super Bowl party Sunday? Or, are you just looking for a tasty treat to warm your tummy in this cold weather? Then this crock pot s’mores cake is just what you need!

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mixcps2-900x675

  • 1 ½ cup of mini marshmallows

  • 1 ½ cups of chocolate chips

  • 6 graham crackers

The first thing you need to do is make the cake mix according to the directions on the box. Spray the bottom of your crock pot with non-stick spray or add some foil to the bottom. Add half of the cake batter to the crock pot and then add 1 cup of marshmallows and 1 cup of chocolate chips. Layer the graham crackers on the top. Break those bad boys up to make them into a nice layer. Save one cracker for later. Pour the rest of the batter on top of the graham layer. Cook this mixture on low for 1 ½- 2 hours. If it starts to burn around the edges, add some crackers to prevent burning. Add the rest of the marshmallows and chocolate chips and then top it off with the crumbles of the remaining graham cracker. Cook it for another 30 minutes and then serve it with ice cream!...Or just eat it by itself!

Totes delish! Get the delicious taste of s’mores without having to start up a fire!

2 Minute Cheesecake in a Mug

2 Minute Cheesecake in a Mug
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Chelsea-Crockett-2-Minute-Cheesecake-in-a-Mug.jpg
Life just got a little sweeter. Cheese cake for one? In a mug? And it only takes TWO minutes?! Where do I sign up! The recipe I am about to share with you really does taste like cheesecake, plus there are endless ways to make it by adding chocolate chips or strawberries, the possibilities are endless! Want to know something even better? This recipe is so much healthier than normal cheesecake. It is low cal, low fat, I love it!

Ingredients:mug-cake-gateau-fromage

  • 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar

  • 2 tablespoons fat free sour cream

  • 3 tablespoons low fat cream cheese

  • ⅛ teaspoon lemon juice

  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ½ egg, beaten fluffy (egg substitute works too)

  • Fun things to mix in (this is optional things like chocolate chips)

  • 1 vanilla wafer

In a small bowl mix together sugar, sour cream, cream cheese, lemon juice and egg everything is well combined. If you want to mix in goodies, now is the time. If you want just plain cheesecake, then don’t mix anything in! Microwave the mixture on high for 1 minute. Open the microwave door for 20 seconds to let the mixture cool a bit, then close the door and microwave it again for 50 seconds. Take it out of the microwave, let it cool, and then stick it in the fridge for a couple of hours to let it firm up. The next step? Enjoy!!

Now, if you will excuse me, I think I will go downstairs and make myself my own personal cheesecake.

Home Remedies for Killing Nasty Allergies

Home Remedies for Killing Nasty Allergies
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Chelsea-Crockett-Allergies.png
Spring fever is in full swing! With the flowers budding and the warm weather moving in, there’s also a negative side to the beautiful outdoors: allergies. You can’t stop them and they only seem to get worse throughout each month. Besides the obvious medicines and vitamins, there are things at home you can do to lessen your symptoms!

Hot showers are the one of the best ways to clear up your stuffy nose. Because of the steam, it hydrates your sinuses and eliminates dryness. If you don’t want to fully take a shower to get the steam effect, pour boiling water in a bowl, put your head over the top of it, and inhale. This works just as well! (If you want to go the extra mile, buy a humidifier and put it in your room while you sleep!)

Chelsea Crockett - Peppermint TeaPeppermint is an easy and enjoyable way to clear up your stuffy nose. If you’re a tea drinker, add some dry or chopped fresh peppermint to a cup of warm tea. The warmth of your tea will help your throat and the peppermint will work at opening your sinuses. Another bonus to add to your mint tea, is a little bit of honey. Legend says that, because bees transfer pollen to honey, eating or drinking a little bit every day can slowly make you immune to its effects! It’s worth a try!

If you’re a victim of nasty allergies, share your remedy secrets below!

Love, Chels

Travel Checklist: The Must-Do"s

Travel Checklist: The Must-Do"s
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Chelsea-Crockett-Travelling-.jpg
One of the most anticipated times of the seasons changing is for spring break to finally roll around. Most of us will be spending our days off making Netflix our best friend or catching up on some ZZZ’s. Others will be visiting relatives or traveling simply for the fun of it! Whenever I travel, I like to keep a list of must-haves and must-do"s before my trip. Here are some travel tips if you feel yourself getting stressed before your much needed vacay!

  • First off, I’m all about capturing the moment wherever I go. Most of the time, I just snap pics with my phone. But if I want to get a little fancy, I have to remember to bring a camera and all of its necessities! Remember to pack its charger (or batteries), and a clean memory card that will hold all of your photos.

  • Before I pack my suitcase, I always look up the weather in my destination. Make sure you’re prepared if you need a coat, swimsuit, shorts, etc.Chelsea Crockett - Packing

  • I always try to travel as light as possible, but being a girl that can’t always be the case. Before I pack my clothes into my suitcase, I lay out everything I’m taking. If I have way too much (oops!), I put away the shirts or pants I definitely don’t need until I can finally fit everything!

  • Sometimes when travelling over break you might miss a couple days of school, more or less. Before you take off, try to get all of your homework done and over with. No one likes to stress about homework when you could be relaxing on the beach (or wherever you’re headed)!

Enjoy these tips and enjoy your trip :)! - Chels

Products to Cure Your Beach Depression!

Products to Cure Your Beach Depression!
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Chelsea-Crockett-Beach-Products.jpg
When this time of the year rolls around, my excitement for summer starts to kick in. (And all of the pics of my friends at the beach over spring break surely don’t help!) The warm weather is finally here where I live which is one step closer to no school and sunny days! There are a few products I love to use when summer withdrawals start to kick in.

  1. I love covering myself in lotion the minute I get out of a warm shower. Chelsea Crockett - Bath and Body Hawaiian ScentsThe number one place to shop for my fave lotions is Bath & Body Works® (of course!). They have a line of Hawaiian scents in lotions, gels, body washes, etc. You can get a mango surf scent from Maui or a beach coconut smell from Waikiki. There’s a couple other aromas you can choose from as well!

  2. One of my top goals each year is to (hopefully) get as tan as I can during the summer! And with prom right around the corner, I like to try a couple self-tanners out to see if they can get the job done a little early. One that I’ve tried that turned out looking extremely natural is the L’Oreal® Sublime Bronze™ Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion. It doesn’t leave streaks and leaves you with a bronzed, beautiful body!

  3. During the summer, my hair actually turns a lot lighter! It’s like the sun gives me natural highlights, which I love! There are products that actually speed up this process and enhance those highlights. Sun-In hair lightener works really well and can be bought for only $4.99 at Ulta (or you can buy online, just click here!). You have to be careful because using too much might not turn out too well. Read the directions carefully and you’ll be just fine!

Hopefully these give you a sun kissed feeling when you’re missing the warm weather!

DIY Homemade Sugar Hair Spray
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/chelsea-crockett-DIY-Homemade-Sugar-Hair-Spray-.jpg
Store bought hair spray can be so rough on your hair. I try and limit my use as much as possible, but I also need some extra help with keeping my long heavy hair to stay curled all day long! Here is a recipe for making your very own all natural hair spray that will give you an all-day natural hold!z342 Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup hot water

  • 1-2 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 tablespoon rubbing alcohol

  • Optional essential oils

  1. Heat the water to a boil, then add 1 tsp of sugar and stir until completely dissolved.

  2. Allow the water to cool and then add in the rubbing alcohol and your optional essential oils. Mix ingredients together and pour into a spray bottle.

  3. Mist lightly on your hair and let it set for about 15 seconds.

And there you have it! All natural hair spray made with things you (probably) already have sitting around your house!

XOXO, Chels

I am all about clean eating, so I love when I can find sweet treats that are low fat and low calorie. Boy did I hit the jackpot with these cookies! They have less than 100 calories each and they are the perfect mixture of sweet and tart. Here is how to make this refreshing spring snack!

  • 1 c. instant oats

  • ¾ cups whole wheat flour

  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp melted coconut oil

  • 1 room temp egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ c. honey

  • 6 tbsp fresh diced raspberries

In a bowl, whisk the oats, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In another bowl, whisk the coconut oil, egg and vanilla together. Stir in the honey and then add in the flour mixture. Stir until it is smooth, and then fold in the raspberries. Chill the mixture for 30 minutes and preheat the oven to 325.
