Post-Workout Skin Care Routine

Post-Workout Skin Care Routine
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/chelsea-crockett-post-workout-skin-care-routine.jpg

I love going to the gym. It helps me calm my mind and makes me feel refreshed and strong. The only downfall of visiting the gym is that I seem to break out after I go. I looked up why this was the case, and it was because I wasn’t treating my skin the way I should! After we workout, our pores are wide open which means that they are open to bacteria and makeup residue. Your skin is super vulnerable after a visit to the gym. Here are a few ways that I found to keep your skin healthy after hitting the gym or the trail.

  1. Make sure your makeup is gone before you work out. Use a makeup wipe to quickly and easily clear your skin. Do this so that your sweat can filter out of your pores freely instead of getting trapped by your makeup.

  2. Use skin products that don’t irritate. Using a harsh cleanser after you workout is not doing your skin any favors! Spray a facial toner on your skin post-workout to soothe and calm your skin.

  3. If you can’t get to a shower, use healthy ingredients to wash your face. Makeup wipes with natural cleansers like lavender are a great and handy way to quickly and easily get your skin clean of sweat and build-up after a workout.

  4. Keep your skin care kit on hand. If you workout before work or school, or you typically have to go somewhere other than home after a workout, keep your skincare essentials in a small travel bag. This is a great way to make sure that you get your skin cleansed before going anywhere, plus it will make you feel refreshed when you are on the go.

Keeping your skin clean is the key to kicking breakouts to the curb!

4 Tips for Masking Greasy Hair

4 Tips for Masking Greasy Hair
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/FullSizeRender-4-2.jpg

Greasy hair is a struggle for us all.  They say you’re not supposed to wash your hair every day, but when you don’t, your hair becomes a greasy mess!  Especially if you have thick hair like me, you know the struggle.  If you have this problem too, here are 5 tips that will help you out!

  • Dry Shampoo. If you’ve never used dry shampoo, then get ready to be amazed! It does wonders for your hair.  Spray a little bit of this on your hair at any time of the day and it’ll give it the lift it needs.

  • Baby Powder. If you don’t have any dry shampoo lying around, baby powder almost works just as well!  I found this trick hard to believe, but it really does work!  Sprinkle a small amount of powder around your scalp to disappear any grease your hair has.  It’s a cheap and quick method to substitute for dry shampoo!

  • Hats and Headbands. As you can already guess, hats and headbands are the perfect cover-up for greasy hair.  They’re the key solution to any messy hair day, trust me!

  • Braid it. Braiding the top of your hair makes for a cute hairstyle while still doing a good job of covering up dirty hair!  You can still look good on your way to class without worrying about it!

Have any other tips you can give me?  Share your tricks with me in the comments below!

Fall Olive Green Style

Fall Olive Green Style
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/chelsea-crockett-olive-green-style.jpg

Olive green is one of those colors that looks good on everyone. It is also one of fall’s favorite hues! Olive green pairs well with many colors, and is a more exciting neutral than tan or brown. Here are my favorite ways to mix and match olive green into my autumn outfits.

  1. Layered with a vest: This is the most subtle way to wear olive green. You can layer an olive vest over a patterned button-up for a classic fall look. You can take it off if you get too warm, which is what happens most of the time where I live. Fall mornings are chilly, but the afternoons get warm. A vest gives your outfit a casual yet preppy feel.

  2. Cozy in a cardigan: I love a long cardigan. My favorite are the ones that are long enough to hit at your knees. They are slimming and make me look taller! Pair a long olive cardigan with a light-colored sweater and brown boots for a neutral, understated yet stylish look.

  3. Time for a turtle neck: In the last few years turtle necks have really made a comeback. Not only do they keep you cozy and warm, they are also stylish! Pair an olive green turtle neck sweater with a black leather jacket and ripped black skinny jeans for an edgy, fun fall look.

Happy fall, y’all!

Tips For De-Cluttering Your Life

Tips For De-Cluttering Your Life
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/chelsea-crockett-tips-for-decluttering-you-life.jpg

Do you ever just feel overwhelmed with life? I feel most overwhelmed when my room is a mess, my closet is a mess, my bathroom is a mess, and everything else is a mess! The best way to keep that overwhelmed feeling at bay is to simplify your life and de-clutter. I am moving to a different state soon, which means I am diving head first into packing up and de-cluttering my life. Here are a few easy ways to declutter your space so you can feel like you’ve got your life together. These are things you can get rid of and not even miss.

Magazines: Let’s face it. We all have a pile of magazines in our room that we insist we will eventually read or make crafts out of. Recycle those puppies! If you haven’t read them yet, you probably won’t be getting to it any time soon. You will always get new magazines in the mail, or if you need them for crafts you can get them at Goodwill!

Makeup: I have a whole tub of half-used or forgotten-about makeup. What good is it if I don’t use it? Some of it is dried up or broken. Why in the world do I keep it? I have no idea. Toss it!

Hangers: I always seem to have a ton of abandoned hangers jutting out from my closet. They always get in the way when I am trying to put laundry away or pick out clothes to wear. Grab all of those lonely hangers and put them in a storage bin or just get rid of them!

Crafts: Those half-finished DIYs sitting around? Those need to go.

You will not believe how good it feels to de-clutter your space. Seriously, it feels so freeing! Simplifying life is important.

5 Non-Awkward First Date Ideas

5 Non-Awkward First Date Ideas
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/chelsea-crockett-first-dates.jpg

First dates can be the most fun, yet most intimidating, encounters.  Sometimes the conversations flow perfectly and you hit it off right away.  But other times conversations become awkward and you run out of things to talk about!  Since I know from personal experience that those situations can be super awkward, here are five guaranteed non-awkward first date ideas!

  • Go see a movie. Okay, now I know this might be basic but still take it into consideration! It’s not going to be awkward because you’ll be watching a movie the whole time! There won’t be time for awkward pauses or dull conversation.

  • Go to a school sporting event. Whether you’re in high school or college, going to a game together is fun and gives you something to talk about. You can even get a big group of friends to go with you!

  • Go to the zoo. The zoo is always a chill date that’s fun and relaxing! Sometimes during the winter, zoos will do a holiday festival with Christmas lights and music. Keep an eye out for those seasonal events!

  • Go to a food festival. What’s better than dressing up cute and eating good food? Enjoy sampling tasty snacks and seasonal treats with your date!

  • Be a tourist in your own city. Spend the day exploring with your date.  Think of all the cool places in your town that you’ve never tried!  Make a list and go on an all-day adventure!

Try suggesting one of these ideas next time you get asked out on a date! 🙂

Things to Consider Before You Cut Bangs

Things to Consider Before You Cut Bangs
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/9f5859211caee80173b9d5c15468fc522599fac5.jpg

Bangs: either you love them or you hate them. At some point in our lives we will even be tempted to try them! But, beware. They may look good in photos you see on Pinterest, but that doesn’t mean that you will like them on your own face. Before you take the plunge and chop some bangs, here are a few things to keep in mind.

  1. Bangs require lots of maintenance. You have to keep them constantly trimmed, like every two or three weeks, to keep them out of your eyes. Getting them trimmed that often adds up to quite a bit of money in the end!

  2. Working out is a little more complicated. You have to remember to keep clips and headbands with you at all times to keep your bangs out of the way.

  3. Try them out before you take the dive. You can watch tutorials on how to create faux bangs to see if you like them before you make the big chop. This may save you a lot of heartache in the long run if you don’t like what you see.

  4. Prepare for a lot of trial and error. You will have to play with your bangs a lot before you get the hang of them.

  5. Bangs can cause pimples. Having hair sitting on your forehead all day causes the oil from your hair to join with the oil on your forehead. That can cause breakouts! The good news is that your bangs will cover the pimples.

  6. There will be a time when you want to grow them out. That, my friends is a long, and sometimes obnoxious, process. Luckily there are a lot of ways to pull your bangs back, such as braiding them or twisting them. That should get you by until they are long enough to swoop to the side or bobby pin back.

There are a lot of things to consider before cutting bangs, but ultimately if you want to take the plunge then I say go for it! It is fun to change up your hair style every once in a while.

S"Mores Bark

S"Mores Bark
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/chelsea-crockett-smores-bark.jpg

S’mores are fall’s favorite treat. Not only do you get to cozy up to a fire while you make them, but they are so ooey and gooey and delicious. Not all of us have access to a bonfire whenever we feel the urge to enjoy a s’more, so that is where s’mores bark comes in. You can make this inside and enjoy it from the comfort of your kitchen! Plus, it is easily share-able.

Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ cups milk chocolate chips

  • ½ cup white chocolate chips

  • 1 cup marshmallow fluff

  • 3 sheets of graham crackers

Melt 1 ½ cups of chocolate chips and spread it over a pan covered in wax paper. Make sure the chocolate is layered thick. Refrigerate this for about an hour. Meanwhile, melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave. Then add in the marshmallow fluff and microwave it for about 30 seconds. Quickly spread the marshmallow and white chocolate layer over the hardened first chocolate layer. Crumble the graham crackers and press them into the marshmallow/chocolate layer. Refrigerate for 30 minutes, meanwhile melting 2 cups of chocolate chips. Spread this over the graham cracker layer and put it in the fridge for 2 hours. Take it out and break it apart. Store it in the fridge if you want a solid bark, and if you want it squishy leave it out in a covered container.

Yum!

Life Lessons from Proverbs 16:24

Life Lessons from Proverbs 16:24
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/chelsea-crockett-life-lessons-from-proverbs-16-24.jpg

Proverbs 16:24 says “Gracious words are like honey. Sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”

What does it mean to be gracious? To me, I think that it means being a forgiving person. It means that you treat others how they should be treated, not how you necessarily want to treat them. It means believing the best in people, and being kind. Using gracious words means being gentile and kind with how you speak to people. It means building others up and taking the high road. God’s word tells us that when we use gracious words, they are actually good for us. They are mentally and spiritually healthy. You are more joyful and happy when you show others grace instead of holding on to grudges and hard feelings.

Next time you are in a difficult situation, remember to be gracious in the way you handle it, because it is better for you and for those around you in the end.

How to Stay Healthy in College

How to Stay Healthy in College
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/93d0847c458424e7cd723fed3fd62941-sleep-deprived-quotes-sleep-deprived-mom.jpg

Sometimes the combination of classes, homework, meetings, jobs, and maintaining a social life can have college students, like myself, forgetting about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is hard to find the time! Developing healthy habits makes it easier for college students to stay healthy both now and in the future. Getting sick just slows us down and makes it harder to keep up with everything! These tips don’t take much time or even much mental energy, so working them into your life isn’t a hassle. Here are the top 4 ways to stay healthy in college.

  1. Drink lots of water. This might be the easiest way to stay healthy. Staying hydrated helps your concentration and keeps you from overeating. It also helps give you more energy! Keep a bottle of water in your backpack at all times.

  2. College students tend to run themselves ragged. I can vouch for that. Stress can cause so many problems with your health, so making time to de-stress (even if it is just watching one episode of a tv show or reading a chapter of a book for fun) gives your mind and body a break from the stress.

  3. Get some sleep. I know “yolo” is a thing, and you want to do everything you possibly can and live life to the fullest, but that isn’t always healthy! Pulling all-nighters to study because you put it off, or hanging out with friends until the wee hours of the morning leads to sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation leads to headaches, reduced brain function, weight gain, and even sickness. Try and take short naps or get to bed on time as many days as possible.

  4. Wash your hands. Sickness is passed so quickly on college campuses, and washing your hands can be a savior when you can’t afford to miss class because you came down with something. It is such an easy way to prevent tons of illnesses.

Life is better when you show your body some kindness!

Beauty Tips You Can Do in Your Sleep

Beauty Tips You Can Do in Your Sleep
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/chelsea-crockett-Beauty-Tips-You-Can-Do-in-Your-Sleep.jpg

Beauty takes time. As a good friend of mine always says, beauty isn’t for sissies! It feels like there isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done that I need to do, let alone enough time to get all my beauty prep in. In my book, the best kind of beauty treatments are the ones you can do in your sleep. Here are a few examples of treatments that make you the beauty queen you are, and all you have to do is catch some zzzzzzzzzz’s.

  1. Shrink a pimple: If you have a pesky pimple or two, put a small dab of toothpaste onto it and let it sit overnight. It dries the blemish out and helps shrink it.

  2. Moisturize: Hydrate your skin with an overnight mask to heal and nourish dry skin. You can also use a humidifier to help stop the dry air from sucking the moisture from your skin while you sleep!

  3. Heal your hair: Coconut oil works miracles. Seriously. Smooth some on your strands and leave it on overnight. Cover your pillow with a towel so the oil doesn’t soak in. Be ready to wake up with the healthiest hair you’ve ever had!

  4. Wavy hair: Want to wake up with wavy hair? There are tons of no-heat curl methods to try. Do a quick YouTube search and find one that works for you. These methods save your hair a ton of damage, AND they take barely any time at all! Your hair gets styled as you sleep.

Now you know why they call it “beauty sleep”!

Fall Plaid Style

Fall Plaid Style
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/chelsea-crockett-fall-plaid-style.jpg

Plaid: Fall’s favorite pattern. You can wear it many ways, with many layers, and in many color combinations! Sometimes, with all those options, it can get a little overwhelming. To simplify styling plaid this Fall, I’ll give you my 3 favorite ways to wear it.

  1. Layered: One plaid shirt can be worn in so many ways. It can be worn under a sweater, cardigan, vest, army jacket, and so on. You can tone down the pattern by layering it under things, or let it be the centerpiece of the outfit by wearing it by itself.

  2. Accessorized: Plaid scarves are timeless and go with just about anything! You can drape a plaid blanket scarf around your shoulders to keep you warm, and can wear a pair of plaid gloves to add accent to any fall ensemble.

  3. Statement: Make a plaid piece the statement item of your outfit. I love a cute plaid skirt with a simple top and riding boots. The pattern doesn’t overwhelm the outfit and gives it the perfect amount of “pop.”

I am ready to rock some plaid this Fall!

Early Morning Workout: Why Yoga?

Early Morning Workout: Why Yoga?
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/sdfghjkcfghjfh.jpg

I’ve always heard both amazing and not-so-amazing things about yoga.  Some people swear by it while others don’t give it the time of day.  I’ve always wondered why some people use it as their main form of exercise so I decided to do a little research!  Here’s why you should check out yoga for yourself! 🙂

  • It increases your muscle strength. Believe it or not, yoga isn’t all about relaxing.  It actually takes a lot of strength and can challenge you more than you expect.  There are lots of different moves that require strength endurance and strong muscles!

  • It straightens your posture. I know for me I could use a little help on my posture!  Yoga helps align and strengthen your spine which, in turn, strengthens your posture.  I never even thought about that but it really does help!

  • It increases your ability to focus. Yoga takes a lot of focus on your breathing and movements.  One of yoga’s biggest purposes is to learn how to focus on the present and relax!  Studies have actually shown an increase in coordination, focus, memory, and other things, as well!

  • It helps the upkeep of your joints. Along with an increase in flexibility, yoga moves your body in ways it isn’t used to moving in.  It helps move your joints in several different motions which helps loosen and stretch them out and makes them even healthier!

Get out of bed and get your stretch on!  You won’t regret it!
