Beauty Sleep... Real or Fake?

Beauty Sleep... Real or Fake?
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Chelsea-Crockett-Beauty-Sleep.jpg

“Sleep considered to be sufficient to keep one looking young and beautiful.” This is the real definition of what us girls call beauty sleep. Whether sleep really helps us stay looking awake and youthful, there is some evidence behind the truth of it. So… beauty sleep: real or fake?

You all know the feeling of staying up way too late for a big test the next morning. Then, the minute you wake up and look in the mirror, the bagsChelsea Crockett - Dark Circles under your eyes show everyone else just how much sleep you actually got. Dark circles are one of the first indicators of lack of sleep. And let’s face it, we all hate dark circles and would do anything to get rid of them. Sleep really does help and is one of the only ways to fully reduce those awful circles!

Sleep benefits more than just tired eyes. Your skin actually replenishes and repairs itself faster while you sleep. A lack of sleep can slow or disrupt this process. As teenagers, we’re supposed to get a recommended 8 hours of sleep. Without enough of it, our skin ages faster. Along with that, your skin actually loses its radiance. It’s proven that little sleep can make your skin look duller.

Beauty sleep is REAL! A continued lack of sleep can actually make a difference. So ladies, buy a planner or make a schedule to make sure you get your hours in! You won’t only feel different but look different too!

Fall Felt Hats

Fall Felt Hats
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/chelsea-crockett-fall-felt-hats-.jpg

A good hat can take any outfit from drab to fab! Felt hats are a fab fall fashion statement item. They add character to your outfit and class it up a little bit. You can wear felt hats in both casual and dressed up outfits. It just depends on what youfall felt hat 2 pair them with. Here are my top three fall felt hat looks for this season!

  1. Tan hat: I love this subtle, sweet look. Pair a tan felt hat with a tan sweater and black skinnies. To add a pop of color, wear a pair of statement shoes such as red booties or flats. Wear your hair in soft waves to complete the look!

  2. Grey hat: Start out with a simple striped shirt and layer a tan sweater or slouchy cardigan over it. Then pull on a pair of dark skinnies, cuff the bottoms of them, and then slip on some tan booties. Tussle your hair, paint on some red lipstick, and plop that hat on your head!

  3. Black hat: I personally own a black felt hat! Here is a way to casually wear one. Pair some faded, distressed skinnies with some black booties, a simple white blouse, an army green vest, and your floppy felt hat! Totally edgy and adorable at the same time.

I cannot wait to rock my felt hat this fall. Will YOU be sporting the trend?

XOXO, Chels

How to Mix Patterns

How to Mix Patterns
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Chelsea-Crockett-How-to-Mix-Patterns.jpg

Cheetah print and polka dots in the same outfit together….no way?! Yes way!  Mixing and matching is totally acceptable and actually brings life to your outfit!  Pairing certain prints can be tricky and look entirely wrong if done incorrectly.  What’s important is knowing which patterns to mix together and how to do it the right way.  Come find out what works and what doesn’t!Chelsea Crockett- plaid and polka dots

Before choosing which patterns to mix, you must decide which colors do and don’t go together. You can’t mix red and black plaid with navy and brown chevron…that would just look wrong!  Either try to keep the colors in the same family group, such as army green, brown, black, tan, and navy, or wear a neutral colored print with a pop or color, such as black and white plaid with Kelly green polka dots.

My two favorite combinations are polka dots mixed with plaid and cheetah print matched with stripes. Try wearing a forest green plaid shirt with a navy and white polka dot sweater over it.  The color and print combination really complement each other!  If you prefer cheetah print, try pairing a black and white striped blouse with a cheetah print skirt or pair of shorts!  Both looks can be paired with boots, flats, sandals, or heels.  Also, keep the jewelry to a minimum since the patterns are already the center of attention.

What are your favorite print combinations? Comment below!

XOXO,

Chelsea

How to Rock Glitter Makeup

How to Rock Glitter Makeup
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Chelsea-Crockett-How-to-Rock-Glitter-Makeup.jpg

When you hear of glitter makeup, the first things that may pop into your head are Halloween and Ke$ha. If applied wrong, it can look too over the top and even cheesy; but there is a proper way to rock glitter makeup and it actually looks beautiful!  Check out how to get your glitter on…the right way!Chelsea Crockett- glitter eyeliner

Applying glitter to the eyes is one of the few acceptable places for a classy look. Also, only use neutral colors like brown, black, tan, silver, gold or white.  One of my favorite glitter products is gel/liquid glitter eyeliner.  Apply eye shadow and mascara as you normally would.  Then, thinly line your upper lid with the liquid glitter eyeliner.  If you typically wear black eyeliner, then try a black or brown glitter liner.  If you don’t usually wear eyeliner, then try tan or gold for a lighter look.  Line your bottom lashes with normal eyeliner.

Glitter eye shadow is also one of my favorite beauty products. Urban Decay has come out with a line called Moondust that is the perfect balance between color and glitter.  It is applied just like normal eye shadow, but has an extra shine to it.  Glitter is a great way to bring out your eyes for a special occasion!  Have fun with it!

Love,

Chelsea

Haunted Halloween Adventures!

Haunted Halloween Adventures!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Chelsea-Crockett-Haunted-Halloween-Adventures.jpg

My favorite season is finally in full swing!  We have fall flowers and pumpkins decorating the outside of our house.  I love building a fire outside and having a good group of people over to enjoy it with me.  Fall is also a time to celebrate Halloween (obviously!).  At our house, Halloween is just a time to dress up, play pranks, and scare each other.  It’s all in fun!

While I’m sure some of you are planning a costume party for Halloween, others may have haunted houses or trails on their minds.  It’s both frightening and entertaining to get your friends together and go to a local haunted house Chelsea Crockett - Fright Festor trail.  If you’re looking for ideas, you can google local hauntings in your area.  Another great place to go for a scare is your closest theme park.  Places like Six Flags fill their theme park with ghouls, ghosts, goblins, and more.  They have haunted hayrides, houses, and scary people roaming the grounds.  It’s always exciting to go with friends…plus if you like a thrill, you can hit the roller coasters! If you live near a big city, you can often find famous local haunted houses that are some of the best in the country! For example, St. Louis is home of the Darkness and Creepy World! Both equally fun and terrifying :).

So, what are you waiting for?  Grab some friends this weekend and enjoy the cool air and haunted activities in your area!

Happy fall! – Chels

Quick & Affordable Halloween Costumes!

Quick & Affordable Halloween Costumes!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Chelsea-Crockett-Quick-and-Affordable-Halloween-Costumes.jpg

Costumes, candy, friends, bonfires… ring a bell? Halloween may be the only time all year to dress up and get a little creative with your costume! If you’re like me, I wait until the last minute to throw together a look that my friends and I can have fun with.  I’ve decided to give you a few cheap and quick ideas if you’re looking for a costume without spending too much money.

One classic look is to dress up like an animal. You can throw on a black shirt with black leggings…..buy some ears, draw on some whiskers and make a tail out of panty hose….voila you are a cat/mouse/etc.!  It’s a timeless costume that can be used year after year.

Another idea, that’s more on the humorous side, is to dress up like an old person.  Chelsea Crockett - HalloweenYou can probably borrow some older people’s clothes like your grandparents or check out your local Goodwill store for affordable props. Stuff the clothes with pillows, buy a cane, roll down your socks, and add some circle rimmed glasses.  (Girls be sure to put some bright red lipstick on and overdo it! Haha)

Lastly, superheroes are always fashionable and easy to run with.  Use a men’s T-shirt and turn it into a cape with scissors.  Wear a long-sleeved T-shirt and add your favorite logo to the front with some fabric paint. Throw on some tights or long underwear….you can always add a tutu for extra glam!  Then have fun with makeup!  Google a pic of your superhero and try to paint your face to match. You can never have too much makeup :)!  If you want a few more ideas, check out one of my latest videos “Last Minute Easy & Affordable Halloween Costume Ideas!”

Pumpkin Rice Krispy Treats

Pumpkin Rice Krispy Treats
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/chelsea-crockett-pumpkin-rice-krispy-treats.jpg

Rice Krispy treats are such a classic. Add in a little pumpkin and you are ready to party! Here is how to make your very own perfect pumpkin Rice Krispy treats!

  • 4 cups marshmallowspumpkin

  • ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice

  • ¼ cup pumpkin

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • 6 cups Rice Krispy cereal

1.Place your butter into a large pan on medium low heat and let it melt

  1. Add in the marshmallows. When your marshmallows have melted, add in the pumpkin and the spices and stir. Toss in your Rice Krispies and mix them with the marshmallow goo.

  2. Pour your yummy mixture into a 9×13 baking pan that has been greased with butter. Flatten out your treats. I like to cover the bottom of a wooden spoon in butter and then use it to flatten the treats. The butter helps the treats not stick to the spoon!

  3. Wait a few minutes for them to cool, then slice them up.

The last step is to gobble them up! These treats are fun to make with friends or bring to parties. They are a crowd favorite!

Make them and then comment below and tell me how they turn out!

Pretzel Pumpkins

Pretzel Pumpkins
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/DSC_1820-300x350.jpg

Halloween is almost upon us, which means you need an arsenal of Halloween treats at your disposal! Here is an easy yummy fall treat to make for your Halloween parties!

Ingredients:DSC_1820-300x350

  • 1 bag of mini pretzels

  • 1 bag of M&Ms (you will only need the green ones, so feel free to snack on the other colors )

  • Orange food coloring

  • 1 bag white chocolate chops melted slowly

  • Shortening to thin out the chocolate

The first step is to melt the chocolate. Add 1 tablespoon of shortening to the bowl of white chocolate chips before you warm them in the microwave. Warm the chips a little at a time and stir them frequently. Then, add in your orange coloring and stir gently until it is smooth. Take out a cookie sheet and line it with wax paper. Dip your pretzels into the white chocolate and then lay them onto the cookie sheet. While the chocolate is still wet, take a green M&M and set it in the crook of the pretzel on its side. Now you have a sweet little stem on your pumpkin! Allow the pretzels to cool and then place them on a cute serving platter! Now you have a sweet and salty snack that everyone will love.

Try these treats out and comment below with how they turn out!

Uplift Your Soul

Uplift Your Soul
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Chelsea-Crockett-uplift-your-soul.jpg

An overload of work at school, drama with your best friends, and too many commitments can really suck the life out of you.  It’s hard to find time to reflect and spend quality time with yourself when every hour of your day is taken.  When you’re constantly on the go, it’s easy to take life for granted and pass up the little things, like telling your parents you love them when you leave the house or thank you after dinner.  Life can get crazy, but it’s important to stay true to yourself and enjoy life.Chelsea Crockett- life is good

The word “no” is very powerful.  It’s so easy to say yes to a thousand things which can make life busy.  Don’t over commit yourself.  Instead, say yes to a few things, so you can dedicate more of your time to them.  This way, you’ll be able to give 110% without getting over whelmed.  The word “no” is also very powerful when it comes to your group of friends.  Picking your friends is very important.  It’s easy to fall into the wrong group and get caught up in things you shouldn’t.  The effects of your friends can be ever-lasting.  Don’t let a wrong decision determine the rest of your life.  Be around people that uplift your soul, make you happy, and benefit you.

Every once in a while, have a day for yourself.  Watch your favorite movie over and over again, go on a shopping spree, or enjoy a cup of tea while admiring God’s works.  Life is SO good, so don’t let it pass you up!  Be happy and do things that uplift your soul, for the Lord our God is so good!

I love you all!

Squeaky Clean Nails!

Squeaky Clean Nails!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Chelsea-Crockett-Clean-nails.jpg

Do you ever take you nail polish off and your nails are totally stained that color? It happens to me when I wear red polish, that pesky stuff just doesn’t want to come off! There is a simple way to make your nails look squeaky clean, and it will also make them turn white! Stay tuned:

Ingredients:

b8e13ae5bc2bc0c7edf5106d336fb7ce

-Baking sod

-Hydrogen peroxide

Mix a small amount of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide together into a paste. Get an old toothbrush and scrub the paste into your toenails/fingernails.  After you have scrubbed the paste into your nails, let them soak in it. Soak them for 5-10 minutes. After you have soaked them, make sure to rinse all of the mixture off with some warm water! This remedy comes in handy for those of us who constantly paint our nails and whose nails are always stained from all of the color we put on them. It is helpful in the winter months when we paint our nails red for Christmas because red is the color that stains the most! Keep this tip in mind for summer also so you can have clean white toenails when you wear sandals!

Importance Of Hydration!

Importance Of Hydration!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Chelsea-Crockett-Hydration.jpg

I am sure that you all know that staying hydrated is important, but do you know just HOW important it is? Today I am going to give you the 4-1-1 on why hydration is so essential!

1. Water helps with weight maintenance!

Drinking water on a regular basis can help you maintain a healthier weight or even lose weight. Drinking water instead of soda can quench your thirst without adding extra calories to your diet and can suppress or distract your appetite if you drink water when you have a craving. Water is also important for weight loss because your body needs to flush out the byproducts of the fat that it is breaking down.

2. Maintains muscle strength!water

By drinking water every 15 minutes or so during sporting events, you can help keep your muscles strong and active. Water helps your body transport oxygen to your muscles, which makes them more efficient during physical work.

3. Improves your body temperature regulation!

Your body will only function properly when it is within a certain temperature range. If your body temperature is a few degrees too high, it can cause brain damage or harm your vital organs. When you sweat, your body helps itself cool down by evaporating the sweat on your skin. However, you are still at risk for overheating if you are not drinking enough water to replenish your fluids. The solution? Bring a water bottle with you wherever you go and drink regularly!

Want to see some ways that you can spruce up your water so that you want to drink more of it? Check out my blog “Spruce Up Your Water”!

Proverbs 31:25

Proverbs 31:25
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Chelsea-Crockett-Proverbs.jpg

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; and laughs without fear of the future.” Proverbs 31:25.

I wanted to share one of my favorite Bible verses, Proverbs 31:25.  To live our best life now, we must learn to trust God’s timing.  Sometimes we don’t understand things that are going on in our life.  We are puzzled by God’s timing and methods.  However, we have to trust that God sees the big picture and “laugh without fear of the future.”  Sometimes God’s will for our lives takes time!

Chelsea Crockett - Proverbs 31 25

We need to take one day at a time and try to find good in every situation….even when it’s hard.  We need to walk in faith and trust God every step of the way.  To live our best life, we have to trust God’s timing!  Being clothed with strength means to not worry about the pieces in our life never fitting just right.  These pieces will come together eventually, just chill out and give it time!  We can’t grow impatient and force things to happen!  We’re just teenagers and having the pressure to figure out our future now causes more and more worry to come into our lives.  Sit back and relax, put your trust in God’s hands!

Lemon Honey Scrub and How to Use It

Lemon Honey Scrub and How to Use It
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/chelsea-crockett-Lemon-Honey-Scrub-and-How-to-Use-It.jpg

Sugar scrubs are natural exfolaints! They can greatly improve the health of your skin by getting rid of toxins and impurities and gives you a healthy glow! Regular soap may appear to keep your skin clean, but only exfoliation removes dead skin cells and excess oil!

Here is how to make your very own lemon honey sugar scrub!lemonhoney

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar

  • ½ cup olive oil

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1 tbsp honey

Add all of these ingredients together and keep them in a jar in your bathroom so that you have easy access to it! I use my sugar scrub when I am in the shower and I have deep conditioner sitting in my hair. I have the water off and use the scrub on my face and all over my body! It rejuvenates my skin and gets all of the dead skin off. Then, I rinse it off in the shower! Easy peasy!

Comment below and let me know how this sugar scrub works for you!

Water Bottle Workout

Water Bottle Workout
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/chelsea-crockett-water-bottle-workout-.jpg

My favorite kind of work out is a convenient one! Not all of us have time to go to the gym or go out and run a mile, so we have to get creative with our workouts! All you need for this next workout is a water bottle. Yup, that is it! A one quart water bottle weighs about 2 pounds. Here is how it goes:

10 goblet squats

5 tricep extensions

10 kettlebell swings

30 Russian twists

10 glute kickbacks

15 standing shoulder presses

10 side lunges

20 squats

So, go fill up a water bottle and get to work! If you arent familiar with some of these workout moves, then just google them! They are all very simple and easy to do. If you are feeling brave, repeat this workout a couple of times! You got this.

Is Eating Too Healthy Dangerous?

Is Eating Too Healthy Dangerous?
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Chelsea-Crockett-Is-Eating-Too-Healthy-Dangerous.jpg

We all want to look and feel our best. By working out and eating healthy, most are able to get that body they’ve always wanted.  But did you know that eating too healthy and becoming obsessed with that lifestyle can actually be dangerous?  Orthorexia is an unhealthy obsession with eating healthy and actually affects teens all over!  The first step is recognizing if you have a problem and how to get help.Chelsea Crockett- orthorexia

Our world today values skinny. Unfortunately, this has led many teens down the road to self-destruction.  Eating healthy sounds like a great thing, but once you start obsessing over it and constantly counting calories, that’s when the problem begins.  Many don’t realize that consuming a healthy amount of fats, carbs, and sugars is what helps fuel our bodies.  One bad meal won’t make you fat, just like one good meal won’t make you skinny.  If you find yourself sitting out when your friends get ice cream or skipping out on your own birthday cake, then look into talking to people about your obsession.  There is nothing wrong with eating healthy, until it consumes your life.

The glorification of a perfect body won’t come if you don’t enjoy life with some sweets or a burger every once in a while. Eat healthy, work out, and splurge every so often.  It’s time to live life!

XOXO,

Chelsea

3 Ways to Layer Sweaters

3 Ways to Layer Sweaters
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/3-ways-to-layer-sweaters.jpg

Sweaters are the coziest thing on God’s green earth. In the cold weather months, I practically live in sweaters. One way to switch your sweaters up is to layer them with other shirts or jackets. Here are a few ways to spruce up your sweaters this fall.

  1. Poncho it up: I really like the poncho sweater look. These are so classy and simple! Pair a neutral colored poncho with a long sleeved striped shirt. To complete the look, add in a pair of leggings with boot socks and riding boots!sweater poncho

  2. Frills: I have rocked this look multiple times already this fall! I love the subtle girly flare that it gives off. If you want to add a little bit of edge to the outfit, add in a pair of black combat boots!sweater frilly

  3. Preppy: I have mentioned this trend multiple times before, but it is just too good not to bring up! Layer a button up under a sweater for a classy, preppy look. The button up can be in any pattern you please.

Now go pull on a sweater and cook cute as can be!

“Do you want to build a snowman”? If you are familiar with this phrase then you have seen the movie “Frozen”! I absolutely adore this movie, and I am even more obsessed with the hair and makeup that the characters wear in this movie! Queen Elsa has the most beautiful braid in her hair throughout the movie. I knew I just HAD to learn how to do this gorgeous hair style. Read on to learn how!

chelsea crockett elsa

This style requires a LOT of teasing! Before you start this hair style, loosely curl your hair so it has some body to it. Also, spray some dry shampoo throughout your tresses to give it texture. Tease all of your hair at the crown of your hair and even a little throughout the ends of your hair. Spray it lightly with hair spray. Take three large sections from the top of your head and start a French braid down the back. Once you get to about the nape of your neck, start to braid more to the side of your head so that it can hang over the front of your shoulder. Once you have finished the braid, tie it off with a clear elastic. Pull on the braid and stretch it to loosen it to make it look fuller and bigger. Also, pull some strands from the top of the braid and loosely curl them to make the style look whispy and romantic!

Go show off your new look! It is fit for a queen!

Best Blush for you Skin Tone

Best Blush for you Skin Tone
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/chelsea-crockett-best-blush-for-your-skin-tone.jpg

Never underestimate the power of blush. It can give you a sweet bashful look, or a “touched by

the sun” look, or just a cheery look! Blush gives me a little bounce in my step. A little blush goes

a long way, so it is important to find the right shade for your skin tone! You don’t want to use the

wrong shade or too much product so that you dangle closely in the “clown” zone! Here is a guide

to help you find the right look for you!

1. Fair skin: Fair skinned lassies should not get carried away with their blush! A soft pink, blush

light coral, or soft pink will be the perfect enhancer for your porcelain skin. The key is

light application.

2. Medium Skin Tone: You ladies are similar to your fair skinned friends! Pinks and

peaches are your bff’s. They will give you the dramatic edge you want! Just a quick tip,

stay away from shades that have a blue-ish undertone. It can make your cheeks look

almost slightly bruised!

3. Dark Skin Tone: For you beauties deep shades of red, orange, and brown are best. These

colors will leave you looking radiant!

Blush can give you a bounce in your step and a brighter smile. Why? Because it makes you

look like a million bucks!

The Cheapest Way To Shop

The Cheapest Way To Shop
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Chelsea-Crockett-borrowing.jpg

Shopping is definitely one of my favorite hobbies.  If you’re like me, you have a hard time resisting a great buy!  Unfortunately there is an evil side to shopping.  It takes all your money!  It’s such an expensive habit!  A great way to keep your closet rotating with new clothes is to borrow!  Now, don’t keep their clothes, but simply borrow for a few wears!  It’s a great way to feel like you have new clothes without breaking the bank.Chelsea Crockett- borrowing clothes

It’s great having friends the same size as you.  To be fair when borrowing, let them borrow one of your skirts in exchange for one of theirs.  This way you’ll remember to give back their shirt and won’t keep it forever!  Another fun place to borrow from is your moms’ closet.  I’m sure many of you are thinking, “EW, my mom and I DO NOT have the same style!”  Well, think again.  Check out her sweaters and accessories.  A simple cardigan can change any look, and a “new” pair of earrings can make you feel like a million bucks!  Also, ask if she’s kept any clothes from her teenage years.  You might be surprised at what you find!

Have fun borrowingSmile

DIY Boot Socks

DIY Boot Socks
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/boot-socks-Chelsea-Crockett.jpg

Today I am going to walk you through one of my favorite fashion trend DIYs. The fashion trend is boot socks! These are the socks that stick out of the top of your boots. They are super stylish and help keep your legs warm! Today I am going to show you how to make some of your very own! Here is an example of what they look like when they are finished:

chelsea crockett boot socks

The first step to making these boot socks is to go through your dad’s sock drawer and find a pair he does not want anymore. Pick a neutral color that you know you can wear with a lot of things.

Here is the pair I chose:

chelsea crockett boot socks

Next: You have to cut the toes off! You can choose to cut anywhere on the sock you want. If you prefer your socks to be bunchy, then don’t cut off very much. If you want your socks to be

barely visible or not be shown as much, then just cut right above the heel of the sock.

After that: You are done! That was totally easy, right? I love this trend because it adds detail to your outfit and spices up your boots a bit too! They even keep your legs nice and toasty. Bonus! Here are some pictures of what your socks should look like and an example on how to wear them! Enjoy!

Be A Style Standout!

Be A Style Standout!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Chelsea-Crockett-Kate-Spade-style.jpg

Have you ever looked at someone and been inspired by their style?  Well what if you became the one inspiring others?!  Being a style standout is an extremely honorable role!  This means you’re daring with your style and wear things others wouldn’t.  It also takes a lot of creativity!  If you want to be a style standout, follow a few of my style tips in order to be at the top of the fashion world!Chelsea Crockett- studded flats

Don’t be afraid to wear color and prints!  Black, brown, and grey can get boring so styling yourself with brighter clothes!  Try adding fun accessories like a striped purse or pink earrings.  A little color never hurt!  Another great way to add to your signature style is through your shoe choice.  Throw on a fun pair of sneakers or stylish wedges to a simple outfit if you don’t have time to get ready.  Never be afraid to be bold.  Always experiment with your style and go out of the box.  It’s important not to care too much about what others think of you!

Invest your money in your most valuable pieces!  Purses and shoes are always a great investment…you can never grow out of them.  Save up for that purse you’ve been dying to have.  Most designer purses are timeless, so it’s okay to splurge!  Plus, everyone will be dying to get their hands on it!  Another way to be a style standout is to layer!  Instead of just wearing a sweater, throw on a scarf or wear a button up under it.  An over-sized coat is always a great addition as well!  Be bold, be exciting, and be out there with your style!

Beauty Myths Busted!

Beauty Myths Busted!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Chelsea-Crockett-Hair1.jpg

I’m sure many of you have heard some ridiculous beauty statements that either seem too good to be true or completely false!  It can be hard to decide whether or not these beauty myths are true.  Let’s break them down and get to the facts!Chelsea Crockett- washing hair

  1. “Washing your hair every day is bad for it.”  MOSTLY FALSE.  If you have oily hair, it is understandable to wash your hair every day.  It won’t do any harm to it.  If your hair is coarse or dry, you may want to wash your hair every other day.  Shampoo can dry out hair, so you don’t want to make your hair dryer than it already is.

  2. “Hair grows back thicker after you shave it.”  FALSE.  Whenever we shave our leg hair, it cuts through the middle of the hair creating a straight line.  This creates the illusion of thicker leg hair even though it’s the same size and same color.  Nothing is different!

  3. “Putting makeup on zits makes them worse.”  TRUE.  If you’re trying to cover up a pesky zit with an oil based or heavy cream concealer, you’re probably going to make it worse!  When you pack on the makeup your pores cannot breathe, therefore collecting more dirt.  Try covering it up with a light powder or go all natural!

  4. “Split ends can be repaired.”  Unfortunately, FALSE.  There are many hair care products out today claiming they can repair split ends.  Well, I’m sad to report that these beauty brands are telling you tales.  The only true way to banish split ends is to cut them off!

  5. “Chocolate, pizza, and French fries will give me zits!”  FALSE.  Indulging in greasy food every once in a while will do no harm.  It’s your regular diet that will determine whether or not you have nice skin.  If your entire diet consists of chocolate, pizza, and French fries, then it’s very possible that you will have acne.  Enjoy these types of food minimally.

BOOM, busted!!  Now you know the truth about these tricky beauty myths!

Love,

Chelsea

Beautylicious Study Tips!

Beautylicious Study Tips!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/grade-a.jpg

Studying is one of my least favorite things. Don’t you wish you could just go to sleep and wake up a genius? I have picked up a few really great study tactics over the years and just thought I would share them! Sometimes switching up your studying routine can really benefit you!

Have you ever heard that certain smells can trigger your memory? They say that your sense of smell is the strongest sense in your body. That is _6638836why researchers say that if you put on scented lotion before you study and continue smelling it as you study, and then put on that same lotion before you take your test, the smell can help you remember everything you studied! I tried this out and was surprised to see that it actually helped!

Do any of you stay up late the night before a test, and then study even more in the morning right before the exam? Researchers say that that is the worst thing you can do for your memory! Avoid studying 12 hours before the test. Why? Give your brain a break! If you are trying to cram all of that information into your head right before the test, you are less likely to remember it because your brain is tired! I kid you not! You should study a little bit each day before the test, and then give your brain a break the night and morning before your test.

I believe in you, my intellectual Insiders!

Crayon Drip Pumpkin

Crayon Drip Pumpkin
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/chelsea-crockett-crayon-drip-pumpkin.jpg

Every time I walk through Target or Michaels I am totally inspired to do tons of fall crafts! I love crafting, especially when it comes to crafting with crayons. When I found a cute way to decorate pumpkins with them I totally flipped. Here is how to make these adorable fall decorations!

What you will need:32

  • Large white pumpkin (fake or real)

  • Hot glue

  • 16-20 crayons

  • Blow dryer

Take all of the wrappers off of the crayons and the break your crayons in half. Cover the table with newspaper so you don’t get any crayon drip on it. Hot glue your crayons onto the top of the pumpkin by the stem so they make a circle around the pumpkin. Next, take your hair dryer and place it on either the medium or high setting and heat the crayons until they melt and drip down the pumpkin. Let your pumpkin dry and then you are finished! You can choose a theme for your pumpkin such as “candy corn” where you just use different shades of yellow white and orange, or you could do a rainbow pumpkin!

I am going to make of these as a cute fall decoration for my room!

Pumpkin Snickerdoodle

Pumpkin Snickerdoodle
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/chelsea-crockett-pumpkin-snickerdoodle-.jpg

As you know, I love fall, and I love everything pumpkin flavored! Snickerdoodle cookies are one of my favorite fall time treats. They make me feel all warm and cozy. Here is a delicious recipe for pumpkin skickerdoodles that is to die for!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature

  • 1 cup granulated sugardsc_0128

  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar

  • 3/4 cup pumpkin puree

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 3 3/4 cups flour

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

For the coating:

  • 1/2 cups granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

  • Dash of allspice

In an electric mixer bowl, beat together the butter and sugars on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy. Stir in the pumpkin puree and then beat in the egg and vanilla. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flower, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir them all together until they are mixed well. Cover the bowl and chill the dough for about an hour. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Mix the coating ingredients in a small bowl. Make small balls out of the dough and roll them into the sugar mixture. Set them on a cookie sheet about two inches apart. Bake the cookies for 12 to 14 minutes or until they are thoroughly baked. Let them cool for about 5 minutes. Then enjoy!!

Comment below if you make these delicious treats and tell me what you think!

3 Ways To Wear A Hair Bow

3 Ways To Wear A Hair Bow
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Chelsea-Crockett-Hair-Bows.jpg

Hair bows should be a fashion staple in any girl’s wardrobe. Bows add innocence and class to any ensemble! There are a few choice ways to rock hair bows. Stay tuned to see how to flaunt em!

1. Up High:

The first way to wear them is with a sleek high pony! When you wear a pony tail plain, it can look kinda of boring. Kick boring to the curb by adding a hair bow! You can choose whatever size and color you want, whatever will complete your outfit!cf8dc143f579ce87cbc3ea115cfb9396

2. Down Low:

I love this look! it is so effortless. Just tease your hair and wrap it into a high bun, then add a clip-in bow to the bottom! Another way to spruce up your every-day bun is to french braid the back of your hair upside down, like the picture below, and then add a bow! So simple, so chic!fe82a11bfdb307f9c1ac7f532a90684c

3. Long and Lean:

This style works best with half-up half-down hair. Tease your crown, pull half of your hair up, then add a slender, long bow into the mix! This look is so classy, and by adding the bow you sprinkle in some pazaz and personality!Chelsea Crockett

What do you think, ladies? Think you will be adding hair bows to your routine? I hope the answer is “yes!”

Why Travel?!

Why Travel?!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Chelsea-Crockett-why-travel.jpg

The world is crazy beautiful. It contains the most gorgeous places full of diversity and cultures.  Getting to experience what the world has to offer is so important!  Some people may think “Why travel?”  But I think “Why not travel?”  If you get the chance, go out, explore, and soak in the world!Chelsea Crockett- cliffs of Greece

God did a pretty great job when creating nature. Between Niagara Falls, the Great Barrier Reef, and the cliffs of Greece, the world is full of never-ending sights!  Traveling is also so important when it comes to experiencing different cultures and meeting people from other countries.  It’s such an eye opener to see how other people live their lives.  See if your school offers opportunities for travel, like studying abroad or spring break trips!  Going on mission trips is also a great way to see the world and get to help people at the same time!

Always take advantage of any opportunity you have to travel. The world is so amazing!

Simple for the Season

Simple for the Season
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Chelsea-Crockett-Simple-for-the-Season.jpg

Have you ever heard the saying “less is more?” Well… this also applies to fashion, too! Sometimes the cutest outfits, are the simplest. Since fall is the time to break out boots and sweaters, here are some quick, autumn outfits to throw on that are simple yet stylish.

Chelsea Crockett - Sweater CardiganAs a girl, I know you can never have too many sweaters! An oversized sweater is the comfiest thing to throw on with leggings without looking like you just rolled out of bed. With a chunky necklace, jeans, and riding boots, you can dress up your outfit; however, put on some combat boots and leggings and you’re set for a more casual outing.

Now I might sound like I’m a little obsessed with sweaters, but big sweater cardigans are perfect for a casual, fall look. A sweater like the one on the left is super trendy with a pair of boots and a scarf. (Tip: Try to find clothing that is warm colors such as reds, browns, yellows, etc. It gives your look 10x more of a fall feel than pastel or neon colors.)

Lastly, next time you’re at Forever 21 or even Target, pick up a couple plaid or denim button ups! The cutest way to rock these is with a pair of leggings and a top-knot or a high bun. For the denim button ups, dress them up with a chunky necklace or a scarf :)!

Let me see what simple and stylish outfits you put together for the fall! Or… let me know in the comment section below!

Makeup for the Athletic Insider

Makeup for the Athletic Insider
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Blendbbb.jpg

Odds are, some of you are super athletic. I envy you! Exercise is so good for you, and it keeps you in shape! It’s tough to know what kind or how much makeup to wear when you are being athletic. That’s where I come in! Here are some tips on how to look your best while playing your hardest.

When you are at practice or working out, the best tip I can give you is to keep your makeup light. Sweat will melt off any foundation or cover-up you are wearing. Let your skin breathe! If you feel like you have to wear some form of cover-up, opt for a dab of concealer for under your eyes or over girl_running_on_beachany obnoxious blemishes you may have. Also, instead of using foundation you can use a BB cream! They are super light and give you just the right amount of coverage. Also, choose waterproof mascara. This will protect it from running and smudging all over the place. Try and minimize the use of eyeliner, also. It will just melt right off when you start sweating.

Now go out there and kick some butt, my ambitious athletic Insiders! (And look fab while you’re at it!)

Tips on Getting Over a Breakup

Tips on Getting Over a Breakup
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/breakup1.jpg

Breakups are rough, am I right? They can make you feel like the air has been sucked out of the room and the world has been turned upside down. Today I am going to give you some tips on how to get over a breakup, because girl, they can be painful!

Give it to God:

Hand over the breakup to God to help deal with all the bad feelings you have. It is not easy, and sometimes it is just easier to hold onto those feelings of hurt and anger towards your ex, but by asking God to take it over, you are allowing him to free you from all of those yucky feelings. He will give your heart peace! Trust that God has someone even better lined up for you in the future!

Feel the Pain:

Okay, that might sound weird, so let me explain. Don’t try and hold all of your sadness and pain in, let it out. Holding it in can be even more painful. Allowing yourself to feel the pain by crying, journaling, and praying  can give you the opportunity to discover parts of yourself and know what you are giving up to God as you go from heartache to moving on!

Do Fun Things…When You are Ready:

When a relationship ends, it’s not the end of the world, but it can sometimes feel that way! It is important to get out and live life. When you feel like you are ready to let go of your pain, get out and have some fun. Hang out with friends, go to a movie, go shopping, whatever you find enjoyable!  As you spend time with people doing the things you love, you’ll find that the pain starts to lift.

Girls, you are beautiful, strong, and important. Don’t let a breakup make you feel any different!

Stay strong,

Love you!

Say Yes to Healthy School Lunches!

Say Yes to Healthy School Lunches!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Chelsea-Crockett-Healthy-School-Lunches.jpg

During the school year, we often don’t eat as healthy as we do during the fall.  It’s easy to throw in some chips and cookies instead of making a nutritious school lunch with fruits and vegetables.  Luckily, there are several easy substitutes to making a quick, healthy lunch that won’t take up your morning!

First off, start with the easy alternatives.  Instead of white bread, try whole-wheat.  There’s barely a difference in the tastes and it has many other benefits that white bread doesn’t.  Chelsea Crockett - Bread

Another switch you can make is from fruit cups to fresh fruit.  Fruit cups may seem to be good for you but they are actually filled with sugar.  Throwing in a fresh banana or apple is always the way to go!

If you like junk food (which let’s face it… who doesn’t?), then it’s pretty tempting to throw in a couple bags of chips!  If you must, buy baked chips.  Although they’re still not your healthiest choice, they are better than nothing!  If you have to have a little chocolate after your meal, try dark chocolate instead of milk.  Dark chocolate covered raisins are a yummy treat for after your lunch… and they are a lot better for you than cookies or cupcakes!

How do you stay healthy during the school year?  Let me know your secrets below!

Genius Beauty Hacks

Genius Beauty Hacks

Beauty hacks are every girl’s best friend. They can save us from even the slightest beauty mistakes and turn any mishap into a success.  You’d be surprised at all the tricks and tips there are in the beauty world!  In a few simple steps, you can learn multiple beauty hacks that will make your everyday routine easier and easier.Chelsea Crockett- lipstick on teeth

  • Do you love lipstick, but get nervous about getting it on your teeth? No problem! After applying your lipstick, stick your index finger in your mouth, wrap your lips around it, and slowly pull out your finger. This wipes the lipstick off from the inside out leaving it away from your teeth.

  • If you have an eye shadow that you love, but it’s too light or doesn’t stay on very well, try priming your eyelid with white eyeliner first. This creates a base for the eye shadow that makes it more vibrant and stays on longer!

  • Did you run out of your gel liner and are stuck with that gross pencil liner? Don’t worry! If you’ve got a lighter, then you’re in good shape. Just hold the tip of the pencil in the flame of the lighter for 15 seconds and let cool for another 15 seconds. The pencil will melt down and turn into a gel!

Next time you find yourself in a pickle, remember this quick and easy beauty hacks!

XOXO,

Chelsea

Boyfriend Jeans

Boyfriend Jeans
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Chelsea-Crockett-boyfriend-jeans.jpg

I’m sure your closet is bursting with skinny and flare jeans.  They’ve always been the perfect jean to throw on with just about anything; but did you know that a new type of jean has emerged?  Called the boyfriend or slouchy jean, it is perfect for casual lazy days.  With their roomy feel and distressed look, they could really be called dressier sweatpants!  I’ll show you a few great ways to style your new jeans!Chelsea Crockett- boyfriend jean

Don’t be surprised if your boyfriend jeans feel weird the first time you put them on, especially if you’re used to skinny jeans.  My favorite way to rock boyfriend jeans is with a rolled cuff.  This gives your pants a slimmer affect since they are tight at the ankles.  This way, your legs won’t look frumpy!  Pair your jeans with a fun colored belt and style them with a tight-fitting sweater tucked in and crazy accessories.  This will give your jeans a more upscale girly look.  Another great top to pair with boyfriend jeans is a crop top.  This look is perfect for a concert or a night out with friends.  It’s super casual with that edgy flare.  My favorite shoes to pair with slouchy jeans are flats or heels.  You want to wear shoes that have more of a dramatic effect other than sandals.  The more sparkle, the better.  Since your new jeans have a masculine feel to them, you want to make sure to wear girly tops, accessories, and shoes.  Have fun with this and try out lots of different looks!

Love,

Chels

5 Tips for Teasing Your Hair

5 Tips for Teasing Your Hair
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/teasing-blend.jpg

Teasing your hair can be a daunting task. Knowing how to tease your hair and the steps to take when teasing it can be crucial if you ever want full hair with lots of body! Here are 4 tips to teasing your hair:

1. Start off on the right foot: get a good teasing brush! I recommend a brush with boar bristles. When washing your hair in the shower, do not use conditioner. The silicone in conditioner prevents the hair from locking in texture!

2. Do the prep work: When your hair is damp, spray the roots with a sea salt spray. Then add in your favorite mousse and blow dry your hair! When your hair is dry, spray dry shampoo to the roots.chelsea crockett teased hair

3. The manual labor: Once your hair is totally dry and you have sprayed the dry shampoo on your roots, take a section of hair about a half inch wide. Hold your hair tightly and straight back, away from your head. Then tease the section! Use the pointed end of the handle of the brush to shape your hair after you have teased it.

4. Make it last: When you spray your hair with hairspray, make sure the spray is not water based, because that will make your freshly teased ‘do all frizzy! Hold the hairspray the length of the can away from your hair and spray in the direction you want your hair to lay. Finish the look off with shine spray!

Build Up Your Friendship

Build Up Your Friendship
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Chelsea-Crockett-Friends.jpg

Knowing you have friends that you can trust and will be by your side no matter what is one of the best things in the world.  I know I’ve had trouble with finding a group of friends that I really fit in and get along with and can be myself around.  Luckily through church and school, I’ve found some amazing lifelong friends that build me up instead of tear me down.  Not only did it take them to step up to the plate, but also for me to be the best friend I could be to them.  Through that, I’ve learned some helpful tips to being a friend that’s there 24/7.Chelsea Crockett - Friends

  • Listen.  If your friends have had a bad day, take time to listen to them.  Whether it’s a break up with a boyfriend, a bad grade on a test, or a fight with their parents, let them know that they can talk to you about it.  Everyone needs somebody to lean on!

  • Build Them Up.  There’s nothing greater than having someone that believes in you and keeps you on a positive note.  A negative vibe is never good in a friendship.  That only leads to bickering and a not-so-great attitude.

  • Honesty and Trust.  We all know girls are known for gossiping and telling secrets.  Make sure your friend knows she can trust you with anything.  Be as loyal as you can and keep every promise you make.  Trust and honesty are the biggest things in any relationship.

  • Pray For Them.  Prayer is key.  God will never fail you or forsake you.  Telling a friend that you’re praying for them will lighten up their day.  Knowing God is with me and on my side always brings the biggest smile to my face.

Love, Chelsea

DIY BB Cream

DIY BB Cream
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Blendbb-cream.jpg

I LOVE BB creams, and I was SO excited to find this DIY on how to make it myself! It is cheaper and you can customize it to your skin type.  Since I have oily skin, I make it so that it would be long lasting and fight shine. Here is what you will need:

–          Your favorite sunscreen- Sunscreen that is sweat and water resistant is best. Try to find something that isn’t too greasy so it doesn’t clog your pores. Plus, your BB cream will stay on forever if you use a water resistant sunscreen!

–          Your fav moisturizer- if you have dry skin, use a creamy moisturizer. If you have oily skin, try an oil free one.

–          Your desired foundation- Liquid/cream foundation is best for this DIY. It mixes best with the other ingredients. Pick a shade that matches your skin tone!

–           Chafing gel- Crazy, right? It is the main ingredient in several makeup primers, and it makes your BB cream go on smooth and stay nice and matte. Just a word of warning, this gel causes breakouts in some ladies. If your skin is prone to breakouts, don’t put as much in or just leave it out. It has not caused me any issues, but I can’t promise it will be the same for you.

-          A bottle to put it in!

Cool, right? If you try out this nifty DIY, comment below and let me know how it works out for you!

XOXO, Chels
