Why We Should Work Out with Friends

Why We Should Work Out with Friends
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-why-we-should-workout-with-friends.jpg

Don’t get me wrong, I love working out by myself. Long runs with just me and my music are great therapy. But, working out with friends has its perks too! Here are the benefits of working out with friends, besides much-needed girl time.

Accountability: When you are forced to schedule your workout ahead of time or don’t want to cancel on friends, it is a great way to stay accountable!635980440725861308438135525_bd4e6a743aeb93e9e09220cf56b83739

Motivation: When the going gets tough, your buds can provide that extra boost of energy! We all have those days when the last thing we want to do is work out, so having a friend to get you off your tush and into the gym is always a bonus.

Learn more exercises: Your friends can teach you new moves and ways to work out! I love mixing up my exercise routines. They can teach how to use different machines at the gym or they can show you new fitness classes that you would never have known about if it weren’t for them!

Healthy competition: Everyone knows you work harder when you are competing against someone! 😉

It’s more fun!: Working out with a friend is just downright fun.

Get up, grab a friend, and hit the gym.

DIY Coffee Face Cleanser

DIY Coffee Face Cleanser
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-diy-cofee-face-cleanser.jpg

Who knew that everminethe same thing that puts a little pep in your step could do the same for your skin! Coffee can actually remove dead skin and also provide your skin with antioxidants that help boost circulation and brighten your skin. Here is how to use coffee to cleanse your skin.

What you will need:

  • Coffee grounds

  • Face cleanser

  • Olive oil or coconut oil

One way to use coffee to cleanse your face is to mix coffee grounds with your usual face cleanser. Wet your face and neck, then massage the mixture into your skin. Leave it on for about 5 minutes, and then rinse it off. You can also make a cleanser from olive oil or coconut oil and coffee grounds. Mix a teaspoon of warm olive or coconut oil with coffee grounds and use it to exfoliate on your skin. Use it all over your body for soft, smooth, rejuvenated skin!

These cleansers are every coffee lover’s dream. Not only will your skin feel soft and smooth, but it will smell great too!

5 Tips for Making Your Hair Look Fuller & Thicker

5 Tips for Making Your Hair Look Fuller & Thicker
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Chelsea-Crockett-Thick-Hair.jpg

Thick, luscious locks are something every girl desires.  When it comes to hair, you can pretty much determine its color, style, etc., but one thing you can’t change is how thick or thin it is!  Although you can’t actually “change” it, there are certain things you can do to make it appear thick and beautiful!

  • Switch your part to the opposite side.  Chelsea Crockett - Pancake BraidShifting your part can give the hair around your roots a little lift.  Since its not used to it, your hair will look thicker at the top!

  • Condition your hair before you shampoo it.  This is said to give your hair a more textured look.  Try it out!

  • “Pancake” your braid.  Pancaking your braid is a new technique that makes your braid look fuller like the picture on the right.  You basically tug and pull on your hair to loosen your braid after you’ve finished.

  • Use mousse.  Mousse isn’t only a guy’s products ladies!  It works beautifully when trying to give your hair a little extra lift and texture.

  • Use dry shampoo even when your hair is clean.  As I’ve said before, texture can completely change the appearance of your hair.  Dry shampoo will give your roots an extra lift!

What tips would you add to the list?  Let me know and I’ll try them myself!

Fall 2016 Off-the-Shoulder Style

Fall 2016 Off-the-Shoulder Style
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Chelsea-Crockett-Off-the-Shoulder-Style.jpg

Off-the-shoulder style is one of my favorite looks.  It gives off an elegant, feminine vibe that can sometimes be hard to pull off with a simple piece of clothing.  But with off-the-shoulder shirts and dresses, you can put together a classy outfit in seconds!

One of my favorite materials for fall is suede, so pairing it with this style is super cute!  Chelsea Crockett - Suede DressThe dress on the left is a good example of this.  Pairing it with wedged booties, a choker, and a bold lip creates a perfect dressy outfit for fall.  Maybe you have a dinner date or an event that you have to dress up for.  This look is elegant, classy, and can be dressed up or dressed down!

If you want a more casual off-the-shoulder look for fall, another fave outfit of mine is a denim, long-sleeved shirt.  Denim is another one of my favorite fall materials, whether it be a denim jacket, skirt, etc.  It’s an easy color to pair with black jeans and a cute hat!

Apart from suede dresses and denim tops, there are so many different off-the-shoulder looks you can come up with!  A lot of stores will be selling fall-inspired tops so keep an eye out! 🙂

Hottest Trends from the 2016 Emmys

Hottest Trends from the 2016 Emmys
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Chelsea-Crockett-Trends-from-the-Emmys.jpg

The Emmys is one of the most famous and watched award shows of the year.  I always love looking at all the elegant gowns and beauty trends and seeing which ones all the stars are rocking!  I’ve noticed a few common trends that seemed to stand out to me.  So, here they are!

  • Sleek hair.  I love clean-cut sleek hairstyles that make an outfit look even more elegant than it already is!  The picture on the right shows Sarah Hyland wearing a sleek, low bun along with many other celebrities on the red carpet.Chelsea Crockett - Sarah Hyland

  • Bold lips.  I’ve always been a big fan of bold lips, and it seems like the celebs on the red carpet were too this year!  A bold lip always seals the deal when it comes to makeup, and the celebs that rocked this proved it!

  • Smoky eyes.  The smoky eye trend has been around for a while and continues to show up everywhere!

  • Low buns.  Low buns can either be formal or messy.  At the Emmys, a lot of women were rocking the sleek, low bun hairstyle which I loved!

  • Gold tones.  Gold is one of my favorite colors to accent with.  There were a lot of gold dresses and makeup looks that were seen on the red carpet (especially gold-based eye shadow!).

  • Highlighted skin.  A lot of celebs pulled off the natural glow look along with a little highlight!  A little highlight never hurts! 🙂

Which trend is your favorite?  Let me know in the comment section below!

How to Make the Most of Your Hair Appointments

How to Make the Most of Your Hair Appointments
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Chelsea-crockett-how-to-make-the-most-of-your-hair-appointments.jpg

I never feel like I have enough time. There are so many things to fit in a day! Because of my hectic schedule, hair appointments are the last thing on my mind. But, they have to happen at some point! Here are ways to make the most for your hair appointments and to help get you in and out of there!452735bcc9ac66847cbacfef9f54b1f6

  1. Know what you want: Give the hair stylist something to work with, like a photo of the cut or color that you are wanting. This helps the stylist know the direction you want to go and saves time because you aren’t trying to verbally explain it to them.

  2. Plan ahead: Know approximately how much time you think you will need for the appointment so you and the stylist don’t feel rushed. Plan it into your day just like you would anything else. Block out time for it.

  3. Don’t go in with wet hair: Your stylist is going to want to look at your hair dry to see how it normally looks, and they are going to want to feel it to see if there is a lot of damage they will need to trim off. If you come with a wet head, they will have to blow dry it before you start the appointment, which takes time. Save time, go dry!

Next time you need to make a trip to the salon, try these time-saving tips to make the most of it!

2016 Fall Shoe Trends (According to New York Fashion Week)

2016 Fall Shoe Trends (According to New York Fashion Week)
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-fall-shoes.jpg

Sadly, there aren’t many days of summer left. Actually, who am I kidding, I’m not sad about that at all! I love fall weather, from changing leaves to chilly weather and fall fashion. I especially love fall shoe trends. In honor of New York Fashion Week this week I have created a guide to the top 2016 fall shoe trends.

  1. Borrowing from the boys: This fall one big fashion statement is borrowed from the boys, and that is loafers and oxfords. These primarily guy-ish shoes are given a girly twist, from adding metallic finishes, chunky heels, or fun tassels.images

  2. Buckle up: Lace-up shoes and shoes with lots of straps were hot this summer, but this fall the new “in” detail is buckles. From buckles on pumps, flats, booties and beyond! This trend is super edgy.

  3. Velvet details: Velvet is such a cool fall/winter fabric. This fall you will be seeing a lot of velvet! From velvet booties to pumps and heels. I love the elegant, retro vibe that it brings!

  4. High as your thigh: Thigh-high boots are still the “big thing” this fall. They are dramatic and bold. I love lace-up and open-toed styles!

Stay up on all of the trends and be the most fashion forward gal in your group. I love rocking fun styles like these!

Life Lessons from Psalm 112:7

Life Lessons from Psalm 112:7
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-life-lessons-from-psalm-112-7.jpg

“She confidently trusts the Lord to take care of her.” This is what Psalm 112:7 proclaims. I love these kinds of verses, ones that give us advice on how to trust God and where putting your faith in God can take you.122

Lets break that verse down. It starts out by saying that she CONFIDENTLY trusts the Lord. She doesn’t just trust Him. She has confidence and is sure of herself. She is sure of the Lord’s care for her life and that He has her future in the palm of His hand. Nothing surprises God. He knows just what you need when you need it. So, lets finish breaking this verse down. She confidently trusts the Lord to what? To take care of her. Isn’t that what most girls seek? To feel safe and to have the feeling that she is taken care of? God has that covered.

Trust confidently in the Lord! He will never let you down.

Life Lessons From 2 Timothy 4:17

Life Lessons From 2 Timothy 4:17
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-Life-Lessons-From-timothy.jpg

2 Timothy 4:17 says “But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength.” Have you ever felt like no one had your back and you were alone? Going to college in a new state, I was afraid that I would have a hard time making friends, fitting in and feeling timat home. This verse tells us that we never have to feel like that, because God has our back, always.

In situations where I feel like my faith is being attacked or I am being attacked personally, I always try to remember that the Lord is standing by me and strengthening me. Being on YouTube, I can read the comments on my videos, and sometimes they are not the sweetest words. Don’t get me wrong, there are way more sweet, nice comments and supporters than there are negative Nancy’s. But, sometimes those negative comments can overshadow all of the good. That is when I remember that the Lord with with me and is strengthening me. When you feel like you are alone in a situation, when you feel attacked or belittled, lonely, or you just feel weak and helpless, just remember that the Lord is always by your side, strengthening you.

You are never alone, and you never have to feel weak or helpless! God has your back, always.

Fashion Staples to Take With You to College

Fashion Staples to Take With You to College
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-fashion-statements-to-Take-With-You-to-College.jpg

There are some items of clothing that never go out of style. I tried to pack as many of this sort of thing to go to college with me as I could. I love dressing trendy and stylish, and there are clothing items that you can literally wear tons of ways and with tons of different combinations (aka your basic white V-neck t-shirt) and will always be in style. Here are a few closet staples that I made sure not to leave Illinois without.1cf6273d9462ef3c7090e1eb2c2c40fe

  1. Simple white button-down shirt: Layer it under a sweater, vest, blazer or wear it by itself. There is nothing classier or more versatile than a simple white button up.

  2. Nice pair of black slacks: Everyone needs a dressy pair of black slacks for any professional event or interview that may arise! You always want to be prepared.

  3. Classy fitted blazer: For job interviews, dressy parties, or professional school events.

  4. Trendy leather jacket: I love an edgy leather jacket.

  5. Pair of classic dark denim: A pair of dark denim pants can be paired with pretty much anything and can be both dressed up or dressed down.

  6. Classic denim jacket: For those chilly summer/fall evenings.

  7. Flattering denim shorts: A cute pair of denim shorts that fit well are essential to any wardrobe. They’re super versatile and never go out of style.

  8. Cute black jeans: I love a nice pair of black denim. They’re a little more edgy than standard blue jeans and pair well with all kinds of tops, from dressy to casual.

  9. Standard white v-neck: The perfect lazy day top. Pair with simple jeans and white Keds for an effortlessly easy ensemble.

  10. Nice trench coat: For the days when it is too warm for your winter coat but too cold for a jacket.

Keep these items in your closet and you will never run out of things to wear! So many combos!

Ultimate Movie Night Snack: Snickers Popcorn

Ultimate Movie Night Snack: Snickers Popcorn
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Snickers-Caramel-Popcorn2-500x500.jpg

What is your favorite candy bar? One of my absolute favorites is Snickers The best way to watch a movie is with a bucket of popcorn, so at your next movie marathon or dorm room movie night, make your friends some Snickers popcorn!

Ingredients:snickers-caramel-popcorn2-500x500

  • 8 quarts of popped corn

  • 1 cup of salted butter

  • 2 cups of packed light brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup of light corn syrup

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup of salted peanuts

  • 30 “fun size” Snickers bars, chopped

  • 3 ounces melted semi-sweet chocolate

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees. In a saucepan over medium heat, boil the butter, brown sugar, salt and corn syrup for 5 minutes. Remove the mixture from heat and stir in the baking soda. Pour the mixture over the popcorn and stir it so that it covers all of the corn. Spread some wax paper onto the counter and then pour the coated corn onto the wax paper. Sprinkle the peanuts on top and then transfer it into a roasting pan and bake for 1 hour, stirring it every 15 minutes. When you remove it from the oven, stir in the chopped Snickers and put it back in the oven for about 3 minutes. Remove the popcorn from the pan and then spread it onto the wax paper to cool. Drizzle melted chocolate on top of it, and then store it in a container until you and your friends are ready to devour it!

Items For Your Day At The Beach

Items For Your Day At The Beach
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-iItems-For-Your-Day-At-The-Beach.jpg

Do you live by a beach or are you planning on going on a beachy vacation this summer? Then you definitely need a beach day survival guide! Now that I am living in California and am within driving distance of the beach, this list is a lifesaver! Here are my must-have items that don’t go to the beach without.c26-b001e96nys-1-l

  1. Makeup removing wipes: To keep your face fresh and clean! They help clear the sweat off of your face and get that pesky smudged mascara off of your under eyes.

  2. Hand sanitizer: In case you touch anything icky or have some beach snacks you want to nibble on.

  3. Sunblock and lip balm: To keep your skin protected! Sunburns are really dangerous and even your lips can get sunburned, so be sure to lather up with all the spf you can. You can even get sunscreen for your hair to protect it from damaging rays!

  4. Sea salt hair spray: For beachy waves even before you hit the beach, and to perk up your hair post-ocean.

  5. Anti-humidity shine spray: To keep those beachy waves at bay and keep frizz away!

  6. Floppy hat: Keep the sun out of your eyes AND make a fashion statement!

Now you are ready to get some sand in between your toes and some salty spray on your face.

Long Hair Probs

Long Hair Probs
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-long-hair-probs.jpg

Having long hair has its lots of benefits but also has some major probs. Short-haired ladies, we love you to death, and sometimes I am super tempted to join the short hair club again because having long hair is pretty much a full time job. But, long-haired ladies, this article is for YOU! Here are 7 problems my long-haired gals will understand.

  1. Pre hair-cut anxiety: We’ve all been there. You’ve worked SO HARD to grow your hair out to the length it is, so when trim time comes you get crazy nervous. What if the hair dresser messes up and chops off too much hair and then you have to wait FORRREVER for it to grow back! Ugh.fullsizerender-38

  2. “Is that your real hair?”: We’re used to this question, yes? Oh, and there is also the “How did you get it so long?” question. Refer to #1 for the answer. ;) I avoid hair-cuts! I know I shouldn’t. I also eat a healthy diet so that also helps!

  3. Having to schedule styling your hair: If I actually want to style my hair for school or going out, I have to set aside about an hour to do so. When you have long hair, it takes forever to style it!

  4. Hair ties. Hair ties everywhere: I have a stash of hair ties in my car, purse, around my wrist, all over just in case I get fed up with having my mane in my face.

  5. Car doors + hair=OUCH: I cannot even tell you how many times I’ve shut my car door/rolled up my window on my hair. Talk about ouch.

  6. Dry time: Air drying long hair takes hours, and blow drying isn’t much faster.

  7. The ultimate love/hate relationship: I love having long hair. I also occasionally highly dislike it. There are days when I just want to go back to short hair, but then I remember how hard I worked to grow it out.

Do you have any other “long-hair probs” that you would like to discuss? Comment below!

DIY All Natural Coconut Oil Shaving Cream

DIY All Natural Coconut Oil Shaving Cream
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-diy-coconut-oil-shaving-cream.jpg

I love using products that are free from preservatives, chemicals, and dyes. The more I can use natural products the better! Here is how to make your very own all natural shaving cream to keep your legs smooth and your skin healthy.

Ingredients:homemade-shave-cream-3

  • 2/3 cup shea butter

  • 2/3 coconut oil

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • -10-20 drops of lavender essential oil

  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda

First, melt 2/3 cup of coconut oil and shea butter together, and then turn off the heat and stir in 1/4 cup of olive oil. When it is all melted, add in 10-20 drops of lavender essential oil.     Give it a good stir, and then set it in the fridge to harden. Once it has become solid, remove it from the fridge and let it soften slightly. Add this and 2 tablespoons of baking soda to an electric mixer and beat until it’s super fluffy and looks like icing. Store it in a container in a dark, cool place, and apply it generously when you are using it!

Enjoy soft, silky, skin with this all natural shaving cream!

The Best Pumpkin Spice Products for Fall

The Best Pumpkin Spice Products for Fall
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Chelsea-Crockett-Pumpkin-Spice.jpg

Along with the leaves changing and bonfire weather slowly approaching, there’s nothing I love more about this season than all of the pumpkin spice food and products.  Besides Starbuck’s famous pumpkin spice latte, there is so much more to the pumpkin spice world that people don’t even know about!

  • Pumpkin spice gum.  Trident Layers and Extra both offer the pumpkin spice flavor!  You can get it at Target, Walgreens, or basically anywhere once fall is in full swing.Chelsea Crockett - Pumpkin Spice Bath Bomb

  • Pumpkin spice bath bombs.  Yes, these exist!  There are so many DIY recipes that teach you how to make them yourself like the picture on the right.  Nothing like pouring a hot bath and being surrounded with the pumpkin spice scent!

  • Burt’s Bees pumpkin spice chapstick.  I love Burt’s Bees products.  I always feel like I’m getting my money’s worth because their products work so well.  And now that they sell pumpkin spice chapstick, I love them even more!

  • Pumpkin spice candles.  I love lighting candles in my room when I’m doing homework or editing videos.  So during fall, I love filling my room with the smell of pumpkin spice.

  • Pumpkin spice coffee creamer.  Instead of going to Starbucks every day, purchase some flavored coffee creamer to make your own pumpkin spice latte!

If you love pumpkin spice as much as I do, I hope you love these products, as well!

8 Essentials Every College Girl Needs

8 Essentials Every College Girl Needs
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Chelsea-Crockett-College-Necessities.jpg

As a freshman in my first semester of college, I’ve realized there are certain things that I can’t live without and things that I hadn’t even thought about buying or bringing with me.  Whether it be food, school supplies, etc., here are some college essentials that you should add to your list as well!

  • A shower caddy.  If you’re living in a community style dorm, this is a must-have!  It makes it so much easier to take all of your things to and from the shower.

  • Microwaveable food.  Dining halls are great but sometimes you need something quick and easy.  Stack up on some microwaveable mac and cheese for those time crunch days.

  • But also healthy food!  Microwaveable meals are great but not always the healthiest option.  Grab some apples, bananas, etc. too!

  • Sorority rush essentials.  If you’re going through recruitment, make sure you have all of the necessities such as mints, a hair brush, lip gloss, etc.

  • Coffee, coffee, coffee!  I’m telling you, coffee will be your lifesaver!  It’s essential for those late nights in the library or 8 am classes.

  • To-go coffee cups.  Along with coffee, you’ll need some cute to-go coffee cups!  Target sells packages of them for a great price (they’re also super cute!).Chelsea Crockett - Planners

  • A stylish planner.  Taking multiple classes different days of the week can get confusing, especially when you have tons of due dates and exams!  Purchase a planner like one of the ones above to organize your assignments, meetings, events, etc.

  • A prayer partner.  On a more serious note, having a friend that you can talk and pray with is extremely important.  College can be tough and sometimes you need a trustworthy friend to be there for you.

If you check these off your list, you’ll be set!

3 Must-Have Pairs of Sneakers for Fall

3 Must-Have Pairs of Sneakers for Fall
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Chelsea-Crockett-Sneakers-for-Fall.jpg

Sneakers are some of my favorite shoes to rock when the temperature starts to drop.  Sneaker fashion like the pictures above is comfy and not hard to throw together!  In the fashion world, you can never go wrong with pulling off a retro look, which I think is what these sneakers have in common!

  1. One of the biggest sneaker trends right now is the Superstar Shoes from Adidas.  Chelsea Crockett - Sneaker FashionThey have the original white with black stripes but also pink, black, and all white ones, too!  They’re super stylish and go with just about anything.  They’re usually around $80, but you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth!

  2. With Nike and Adidas being two of the most popular shoe brands, New Balance often gets overlooked.  They offer so many pairs of stylish sneakers!  I’m a huge fan of the suede material and you can find a lot of pairs of New Balance tennis shoes with it.  If you’re not into the suede-ish material, you can find tons of other pairs as well!

  3. Roshes are one of Nike’s biggest sellers.  I feel like almost everyone I know has a pair!  Not only are they easy to throw on, but if you get a neutral color, they’ll go with just about anything!

Which of the three is your favorite style?  Let me know below! :)

Necklace Layering 101

Necklace Layering 101
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-necklace-layering-101.jpg

When I am planning out my outfits, I always have to plan out the jewelry too. Lately I have been loving the layered necklace trend. It adds dimension and uniqueness to your look! Plus, there are so many variations you can do. I will admit, though, that it took a lot of practice to get the art of layering down. There are ways to make your layering look like it flows and like the pieces work together. Here is necklace layering 101!bbceaaa468e8980d22628679bfd962ce

  1. Play with different lengths: Wearing short, medium, and long necklaces together lets you showcase all three necklaces and also gives your look different levels of dimension.

  2. Work with shapes: Wear necklaces that feature different shapes. This draws attention to the individual pieces and the whole look. Try a necklace with a small circle and another with a bar.

  3. Mix it up: Mix up the different metals! Use silver and gold necklaces in your layering. It adds dimension!

  4. Keep it simple: I have a necklace that I wear every day. I never leave the house without it, and I always feel “dressed” when I have it on. From there I can add pieces to my look if I want depending on my outfit! Also, necklace layering doesn’t have to be done when you are dressed up and going out, it can be done when you are wearing a simple tee and jeans! It can give a simple feminine touch to an outfit in need of some pizzazz.

I love this trend because it is an easy way to express yourself and play with fashion! There is really no “wrong” way to layer.

Hair De-tangler DIY

Hair De-tangler DIY
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsesa-crockett-diy-detangler-spray.jpg

Now that my hair has grown back and is almost as long as it was in my first years of high school, pulling a brush through it after a shower is nothing short of a nightmare. The only way I can get all the tangles out of my hair is if I use detangler. This is a sort of leave-in conditioner that both moisturizes and helps work the tangles out of your hair! Here is how to easily make your very own.

Ingredients:download

  • 2-3 tablespoons conditioner

  • 2 cups distilled water

  • 12 drops of essential oil

  • Spray bottle

The amount of distilled water you use depends on your spray bottle size. Mix 1.5 to 2 cups of water with 2-3 tbsp of conditioner in a bowl. Add in some essential oils to spruce it up and to give your hair a fresh scent. I like to use rosemary oil because it promotes strong hair. Use a funnel to pour the mixture into the spray bottle, and there you have it! Spray on damp hair after you shower and your hair will be soft, tangle free, and shiny!

I like using a leave-in conditioner on my hair after I shower because it hydrates it and protects it from damage. Plus, it makes it super soft and shiny! Also, making your own ensures that you aren’t putting unnecessary chemicals on your hair.

Rise and Shine - Morning Beauty Habits

Rise and Shine - Morning Beauty Habits
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelseas-crockett-moring-beauty-habits-1024x575.jpg

Wake up sleepy head! You don’t have to be a morning person to start your day with a kick booty beauty routine. Toss in a few of these easy steps to your morning rituals to keep you feeling fresh all day long:download-1

  1. Down some protein: Instead of reaching for a carb overload (aka. toast or a bagel) opt for a cup of Greek Yogurt or some eggs. When you eat a protein packed breakfast, you stay fuller longer and avoid over eating later on throughout the day!

  2. Smooth on sunscreen: Protecting yourself from the sun is crucial, even when the sun isn’t out. Use a SPF moisturizer and foundation, and you can also use SPF on your lips and neck and back of your hands. This helps prevent wrinkles and skin cancer!

  3. Hydrate: Dehydration can cause you to be sluggish and can also mess with your skin! Start your day with a big glass of water, and keep a water bottle with you all day.

  4. Apply antioxidants: Use vitamin E and C on your face to help protect your skin against aging free radicals found in UV rays and pollution. These vitamins also supplement your sunscreen and give your skin a beautiful glow.

Have a beautiful day, gorgeous!

How to Stay Healthy in College

How to Stay Healthy in College
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-how-to-stay-healthy-in-college.jpg

I just started college a few weeks ago and am loving every minute of it! One down side? Being surrounded by thousands and thousands of people every day means sicknesses travel fast! This is a well-known fact about college campuses. Also, being so busy with class and work and trying to maintain a social life leave little time for self-care! Having a busy schedule can cause you to neglect your health, so here are some tips on how to stay healthy in college! I will be following these closely, trust me, ain’t nobody got time to be sick, and nobody wants to gain that freshmen 15!download-2

  1. Have healthy dorm room munchies on hand: One easy way to avoid the feared freshmen 15 is to have healthy snacks around. When you are sitting in your room studying or hanging out with friends or have just had a stressful day, it is easy to reach for some comfort food. Keeping HEALTHY comfort food around can help keep you on track to keeping your freshmen 15 at bay. Also, eating healthy helps ward off sickness! When your body is healthy and strong it is less likely to get sick.

  2. Get that 8 hours in: Sleep, for heaven’s sake! I know that college is about having fun and making friends, but sacrificing sleep is a big no-go. Lack of sleep can cause you to gain weight, break out, get bad grades, and just be all around miserable. Plus, sleeping through class is not an option!

  3. Don’t get lazy: Most colleges have really nice work out facilities, so USE THEM! Grab your roommate or a new friend you met in class and hit the gym. Most people gain weight in college because they reduce their sleep and exercise and raise the amount of food they intake.

These are just a few tips on how to stay healthy during college. Best of luck to all of my fellow college students!

How to Properly Clean Your Beauty Tools

How to Properly Clean Your Beauty Tools
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Chelsea-Crockett-Makeup-Brushes.jpg

We’re always told to keep our beauty brushes and other tools clean and free from bacteria.  That being said, we’re not always told the best way to do so.  And if we pay $30 or more for a brush, we don’t want to ruin our high quality tools by washing them the wrong way!  Here’s a little guide on how to wash your beauty tools properly!

  • Beauty Blender/Beauty Sponge.  Any tool that has a spongey texture to it can be tough to clean, especially because they hold so much moisture.  Not only do you need to run it under water, but pick a cleansing solution to use as well.  Squeeze your beauty blender gently while rinsing it with water but also adding in the cleansing solution.  Chelsea Crockett - Cleaning BrushesThis will help clean out any bacteria or makeup deep into the sponge.  Make sure you are being gentle or else it could mess up your blender!

  • Eyelash Curler.  It may’ve never crossed your mind, but eyelash curlers actually have a large amount of buildup from mascara, eyeliner, etc.  If you’ve ever tried cleaning it before, then you know it’s not the easiest thing to do!  Either heat it up with a lighter or soak it in hot water.  If you start this way, the makeup will slide right off when you use a tissue, cotton, etc.

  • Foundation Brush.  For cleaning brushes, make sure you use a cheap cleanser or one that you don’t use anymore.  Any type of cleanser will make for the perfect soap to eliminate any buildup on your brush.  Apply the cleanser and rinse your brush under warm water.  Set it flat on a paper towel instead of setting it up to dry to make sure your brush stays it original quality!

Follow these tips to keep your beauty tools clean and free from makeup buildup!

Are You Shaving Your Legs the Right Way?

Are You Shaving Your Legs the Right Way?
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Chelsea-Crockett-Shaving-Legs.jpg

Usually when we need to shave our legs, we simply like to get the job done.  But there’s certain things that we can do to make our legs smoother, more hydrated, and better shaved!  Here are a few tips and tricks that will make you think twice about how you’ve been shaving your legs!

Before: With shaving, it’s all about making your legs as smooth as possible.  The day before (or at least before you shave), use a scrub to exfoliate.  Chelsea Crockett - Vaseline LotionThis will clear out any dead skin and leave your skin smooth for a gentle, clean shave!

During:  Before jumping in and shaving right away, wait toward the end of the shower.  The heat and moisture will loosen up your pores and allow for a better shave!  Although this may be obvious, make sure you’re shaving in the opposite direction of your hair.  Also, a gel or foam is the best product to use to prevent dryness, rashes, or razor burns!

After:  Especially when you shave, you’ll need to moisturize and hydrate your skin.  Try using a lotion that isn’t overly perfumed or includes a ton of alcohol like the one on the left.  This way you can make sure your legs are getting all the hydration they need!

If you’re not following these pointers, then I urge you to do so!  They really do make a difference!

Study Tips for the Social Media Addict

Study Tips for the Social Media Addict
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Chelsea-Crockett-Social-Media.jpg

Social media can be addicting.  Always wanting to stay up to date with what everyone is doing can become routine!  I sometimes find myself having trouble putting my phone down during homework or studying, so… I came up with a few tips on how to block out social media when you need to get the job done!

  • First off, start simple.  If you know you can’t stay off your phone, then turn it off or put it in another room! Chelsea Crockett - Social Media Addict That way you won’t even see your phone light up or feel it vibrate.  It’s a simple solution and you wind up distraction free!

  • If you like to check your social media on a computer or laptop, then I highly recommend you check out this website if you get distracted easily when studying.  I know I’ve mentioned this in another article, but KeepMeOut.com blocks you from any website you tell it to!  You can also pick the amount of time it’ll lock you out for which is really cool!

  • Put your phone on “do not disturb” so your phone isn’t constantly vibrating or going off every time you get an Instagram like or Twitter notification!

  • If you really can’t keep your hands off your phone, set a timer that goes off every 30 minutes, hour, etc.  When the timer goes off, treat yourself by checking your phone but limit yourself to only so much time!

What study tips do you have for me?  Let me know below, I could use them!

How to Keep Straightened Hair Straight Longer

How to Keep Straightened Hair Straight Longer
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-How-to-Keep-Straightened-Hair-Straight-Longer.jpg

I love how my hair looks when it is straightened. I was recently on The Today Show and I wore my hair straight on the show! The bad thing about loving straight hair is the fact that keeping my hair straight is nearly impossible. I will straighten it in the morning, and by mid-afternoon it is already starting to form waves. It may have something to do with the humidity in the air. If you want to know how to keep your hair straight as long as possible, read on!

  1. Start smart: There are actually shampoos and conditioners out there that are made for styling straight hair. They fight FullSizeRender (32)frizz, smooth your hair, deep condition, and provide protein. Whether you use the special shampoo and conditioner or not, this next step is vital: make sure your hair is completely dry before straightening it. Any moisture left in your hair will cause it to curl the second you step outside into the humidity. Water attracts water!

  2. Cool off: After you have finished straightening, allow your hair to cool completely before leaving the house. You can use your blow dryer on the “cool” setting to do this. Your hair will hold the style better once it has cooled.

  3. Use straightening strategies: Before straightening, you can prep your hair. One way is to shower the night before you straighten to ensure your hair is as dry as it can be. This will also save it from the damage of blow drying. When you are blow drying, though, always blow downwards to keep your hair smooth. Once you are done straightening, use hairspray to keep frizz away and to keep that style holding longer.

And lastly, be nice to your hair. No matter how hard you try, sometimes the weather wins. Try to wear your hair straight on days when it isn’t supposed to rain. 🙂

Easy Dorm Room Meals

Easy Dorm Room Meals
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-easy-dorm-room-meals.jpg

I know there are going to be times when I want something to eat but I am in my dorm room and don’t want to walk all the way to the dining hall or don’t want to go out because I have way to much homework (..or laundry to do..). Lucky for us hungry college students stuck in our dorms, there are easy, (sort of) healthy meals we can make in our microwave with only a few ingredients. Stock these ingredients in your fridge so you are ready to go the next time you don’t want to venture out for food. Here are a few yummy recipes you can make in the comfort of your dorm.download

  1. Microwave mac ‘n cheese: Mac ‘n cheese is a staple “college student” food. I mean, who doesn’t love its cheesy goodness? Why buy a single serving cup of mac ‘n cheese that has lots of chemicals and artificial colors when you can easily make your own mug of it from home? Here is the scrumptiously easy recipe.

  2. Mug Cheesecake: Now, I know cheesecake doesn’t necessarily count as a meal, but in college anything goes! And who doesn’t love cheesecake? Here is a yummy recipe for cheesecake that you can make in a mug.

  3. Scrambled eggs: I am a big advocate of “breakfast for dinner” so I love scrambled eggs as a meal! Here is a recipe for just that. This recipe calls for mostly egg whites, but you can just go ahead and use the whole egg.

  4. Tortilla pizza: You can make your very own pizza in your dorm room. Introducing the pizza quesadilla! The recipe says for you to use a stove, but a microwave will also work just fine.

Happy munching!

Dating Tips to Defy Distance

Dating Tips to Defy Distance
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-dating-tips-to-defy-the-distance.jpg

If you are in a long distance relationship like me, you know how hard and emotionally rough it can be. Relationships are already a lot of work, so add in distance and you’ve really got a challenge! I strive to be the best girlfriend I can be, even from a thousand miles away. Here are some of my tips on how to keep your relationship strong despite the distance.

  1. Give him your full attention: When you are on the phone with him or skyping, get rid of distractions. You want him to know that when you are talking to him that he has all of your attention. You want to make the most of the little time you have together.FullSizeRender (34)

  2. Be the “friend” in girlfriend: Be his best friend! Be the one who they can talk to and share all of their hopes, dreams, and fears. Ask him how his day went, tell him the funny parts of your day, and just be a friend! Things don’t have to be romantic all the time.

  3. Don’t sweat the small stuff: Don’t focus on the negative and don’t pick fights. When you focus on the negative, all you will see is negative!

  4. Love something he loves: Does your boyfriend like football or a certain band? Ask him about how his favorite team is doing or download some of the band’s music and discuss it with him when you talk to him next. Watch an episode of his favorite tv show with him over skype. By sharing in the things he loves, you are becoming closer and you are showing him how much you care!

  5. Don’t text him allllll the time: A few texts during the day is just fine. You both understand that you are busy, and feeling like you have to constantly keep texting each other can make you feel a little stressed. Wait until the end of the day to catch up on everything, it will give you more to talk about when you are together or when you have his undivided attention. Plus, he needs his space and you need yours!

Long distance relationship-ers…I’m with you! I feel your pain! You are not alone. We got this. J

How to Feel Energized After a Bad Night"s Sleep

How to Feel Energized After a Bad Night"s Sleep
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsesa-crockett-how-to-recover-from-a-bad-nights-sleep.jpg

We have all had those nights when we feel like we toss and turn all night and wake up feeling like we never actually fell asleep. There is nothing worse than waking up feeling exhausted! I have a feeling I am going to find myself having nights with little sleep during my college career, so I went on a search for ways to recover from a bad night’s sleep or from little sleep. Here are 4 of the best ways to feel more energized and awake after a rough night’s sleep. Just because you slept bad doesn’t mean you have to feel miserable!images (1)

  1. Watch out for caffeine: A cup of coffee in the morning is just fine, but try to avoid caffeine in the afternoon. If you drink anything with caffeine in it within 4 hours of bed time it can mess up your sleep.

  2. Drink plenty of H2O: Bad sleep leads to dehydration because you are up longer and are using up your body’s natural reserves. Being dehydrated can lead to you feeling even MORE tired, so keep water handy and drink up.

  3. Get some Vitamin D and take a walk: Getting 15 minutes of sunlight in the a.m. helps reset your body clock and increases your body’s levels of serotonin, which increases your mood and energy! Also, getting a quick walk in will help you reduce your fatigue and wake your body up.

  4. Take a cold shower: This doesn’t sound appealing to me at all! But, cold showers can give you a jolt of energy because the splash of cold increases your breathing and oxygen intake, which increases your heart rate and blood flow, which energizes you!

I know these tips will come in handy the next 4 years of college.

How to Be a Positive Role Model

How to Be a Positive Role Model
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-how-to-be-a-positive-role-model.jpg

Do you have someone you look up to and strive to be like? I think we all do. We all have someone who is a great example of how to act, speak, and carry ourselves.  A lot of times, you are that person for someone else! I have girls tell me that I am their role model, and I am so flattered and humbled. We all become someone’s role model at some point, so it is good to know how to act in those situations. We don’t want to let them down and become a negative influence! Here is how to be a great role model:FullSizeRender (36)

  1. Be positive: Positive people are way more fun to be around, and their happiness is infectious! By having a positive attitude, you are motivating others around you to do the same. Nobody looks up to a Debbie downer or somebody who is constantly complaining!

  2. Be humble: Don’t be boastful or prideful. A humble person is one who is respected!

  3. Have integrity: Be honest about everything and, well, have integrity!

  4. Practice what you preach: When someone says something and then does something totally different, it is hard to trust them.

  5. Be an inspiration: If people see you overcoming obstacles in your life or they see what an amazing example you set for others, they will be inspired by your success! They will believe they can be successful because they saw you do it.

Like I said earlier, you never know who will look up to you or who you are inspiring, so it is always good to be mindful of these attributes and strive to fulfill them every day. You also have to understand that not everyone will see eye to eye with you, and some people will disagree with how you live your life and what example you set for others, but in those cases you just need to keep doing you and let God guide you in your actions.

I know you guys are amazing role models!

Baking Soda Beauty Remedies

Baking soda: we all have it sitting in our kitchen cabinets at this very moment. Baking soda is so versatile and has so many amazing beauty uses. It can be a brightener, exfoliator, acne treatment, and anti-bacterial agent. Here are a few ways you can start using baking soda in your beauty regimen! Who knew you could find beauty products in the produce aisle? J

  • Teeth whitening: Baking soda is a natural bleach for your teeth. In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with a bit of water and salt and use it instead of toothpaste.download (1)

  • Hair cleansing: Shampoos and conditioners leave a lot of build-up on your hair, and baking soda can help clean that buildup off. Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with a cup of water and apple cider vinegar and pour this mixture over your hair. Then rinse it out and feel how smooth your hair is!

  • Mini manicure: dip a soft, wet toothbrush into baking soda and use it to scrub the dead skin around your nails.

  • Skin exfoliation: mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of water or apple cider vinegar and gently scrub your skin. This will help tighten your pores and prevents acne because it is a natural antibacterial.

Does this sound like something you would use in your beauty regimen? If so, comment below and let me know which baking soda beauty remedy you will be trying!

5 Tips for Beating the “Freshman 15”

5 Tips for Beating the “Freshman 15”
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Chelsea-Crockett-Freshman-15.png

The “Freshman 15” is always under debate.  Is it real?  Can it actually happen to me?  Truth is, it can happen, but it can also be easily prevented!  Since I’m going to be battling it myself this year, I thought I’d come up with a few tips on how I’ll be staying healthy my freshman year.  I hope these help you, too!

  1. Stock your mini fridge with only healthy snacks.  If you only allow yourself to buy healthy food, then you won’t have the temptation to eat junk food!

  2. Cover your windows with dark curtains so you can assure yourself complete darkness when you sleep.Chelsea Crockett - Sworkit  You may not realize it, but sleep is very important when it comes to your mental and physical health.

  3. Set a fitness plan that works with your class schedule.  If you don’t plan out your workouts, you’ll find yourself with little to no time left at the end of the day!

  4. Practice a small-space workout that you can do in your dorm room.  For those days that you’re too lazy to leave your room, find a simple ab, leg, or arm workout that you can do in your own dorm!  There are plenty of apps like the one on the right that you can download that will plan out a workout for you!

  5. Wear your workout clothes to class and walk everywhere!  If you’re on a big campus, then getting your steps in isn’t hard.  Also, if you plan on working out straight after class, simply where your exercise clothes to save some time and encourage you to hit the gym!

What other tips do you use for keeping fit in college?  Let me know so I can try them out at my school, too!

Hairstyles for Hiding Your Bangs

Hairstyles for Hiding Your Bangs
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Chelsea-Crockett-Bangs.jpg

Sometimes you try something new with your hair and end up loving it.  Other times, taking a risk with your hair can be something you regret!  Depending on the person, they can love or hate their bangs.  Or maybe they simply get tired of them!  I know they can take a while to grow out, so here are a few hairstyles for hiding your bangs!

When it comes to bangs, braids can be your best friend.  There are so many different styles of braids that will help hide your bangs and are also super stylish! Chelsea Crockett - Braid Top Knot If you want to keep it simple, French braiding your bangs and bobby pinning them on the side of your head is an easy solution.  One of my favorite looks is the braided topknot like the picture on the left.  As long as you can master the look, it turns out super cute!

If you haven’t invested in any accessories, then you should start!  Hats and headbands are perfect for hiding bangs (and for fixing a bad hair day!).  Purchase a few that you can switch up with different outfits and you’re good to go!

Another quick way to style your bangs is by drying your hair a certain way.  Training your part to go the opposite way can be hard, but by doing this you can master the flipped hairstyle.  This will allow your bangs to blend with your hair better along with using some product to seal the deal.

If you’re regretting getting bangs, then I hope this helps!
