Activated charcoal: what is it? What does it do? I have heard it mentioned a lot when it comes to beauty and health remedies. Activated charcoal is carbon that has been treated with oxygen. It attracts and absorbs toxic materials, impurities, and contaminates. It is used for so many things, and there are so many books written about it, but I thought I would highlight a few of my favorite ways to use it!

  1. Toothpaste/teeth whitening: Although activated charcoal is black, it is actually really good at whitening your teeth, plus it is non-toxic, which store bought whiteners are NOT!

  2. Treating stings/bites: You can use activated charcoal to treat spider bites or other poisonous stings! Mix it with a little baking soda and put it on the infected area. It can also help prevent scarring!

  3. Upset stomach: Because activated charcoal binds to toxic substances, it can often help relieve stomach discomfort or pain! Feel a little bloated? Take some activated charcoal! Look up online your correct dosage/how much you should take/how you should take it.

I can’t wait to try this on my teeth to see it whiten them!
