Whether it’s with your college roommate or at a sleepover, it’s easy to get beauty products mixed up or forget to bring your own. Sharing anything from makeup to facewash doesn’t sound like a big deal, right? Wrong! Using other’s beauty products spreads bacteria and can even lead to infection! Check out which products should be avoided!

• Eye makeup and mascara are the very worst to share with friends. Since your eye is watery, it is a trap for bacteria. Avoid an eye infection by keeping your eye makeup to yourself!
• Admit it; most of us are guilty of not cleaning our makeup brushes. Brushes can hold on to bacteria and dirt, which can make yours or a friends face breakout!
• Cold sores, sore throats, and other sicknesses can be transferred through lip gloss and lipstick! Keep those to yourself!
• Facial cleansing brushes are a no-go when it comes to sharing. This can lead to a skin infection, especially if you have any type of rash or acne prone area! Anything that touches open sores shouldn’t be shared!
• Razors are never meant to be shared…I mean, do I even need to go into detail on this one?

Shopping is definitely one of my favorite hobbies.  If you’re like me, you have a hard time resisting a great buy!  Unfortunately there is an evil side to shopping.  It takes all your money!  It’s such an expensive habit!  A great way to keep your closet rotating with new clothes is to borrow!  Now, don’t keep their clothes, but simply borrow for a few wears!  It’s a great way to feel like you have new clothes without breaking the bank.

It’s great having friends the same size as you.  To be fair when borrowing, let them borrow one of your skirts in exchange for one of theirs.  This way you’ll remember to give back their shirt and won’t keep it forever!  Another fun place to borrow from is your moms’ closet.  I’m sure many of you are thinking, “EW, my mom and I DO NOT have the same style!”  Well, think again.  Check out her sweaters and accessories.  A simple cardigan can change any look, and a “new” pair of earrings can make you feel like a million bucks!  Also, ask if she’s kept any clothes from her teenage years.  You might be surprised at what you find!

As a girl, makeup is a big deal.  I mean, what would we do without it?!  Getting together with friends is always a fun time…doing each other’s makeup and trying out your friends’ makeup is all part of the fun!  Unfortunately, we don’t think of the germs, bacteria, and viruses that we may be sharing.  Yuck!!  So, how bad is it to share makeup?  Let’s take a look:

When it comes to powered foundations, blush, and liquid foundations, go ahead and share!!  The trick here is to use your own brush.  Just make sure your brush and face are clean and apply!  No harm done.

Lip and eye products are a big “no-no”.  Your mouth can transfer cold sores, colds, and other viruses.  The swipe of someone else’s lip gloss, lip balm, or lip stick can create a potential risk.  It’s not worth it!  Mascara, eye liner, and eye shadow brushes are other beauty products that should not be shared.  Surprisingly, bacteria and viruses like pink eye can be transferred by sharing these simple products.  Crazy, right?!  Next time you ask to use your friends’ makeup, think twice about what products you are borrowing.  Be careful and don’t spread the germs!

Hi Insiders,

            Do you share a room or small space with a sibling or live away at school with a   roommate?  Sometimes, sharing a small space with someone can be very difficult.  Personalities clash, cleanliness becomes a problem, and some of their habits may bug you!  Here are a few tips to keep you and your roommate or sibling from budding heads.

            Everyone wants their own space and their own place to get away, but sometimes you’ve got to share a space with someone for long periods of time.  Make sure to always pick up after yourself even if you’ve had a long day.  A lot of people get in the habit or throwing their clothes on the ground and don’t clean it up until it becomes too much!  Keep your clutter under control.  If your roommate does something that bothers you, take a breather.  Everyone does things differently.  Just because he/she may whistle constantly doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing!  If it bothers you that much and you’ve gave it some thought, then kindly bring up the matter with your roommate.  If they set 10 alarms before their 8a.m. class, then it’s okay to bring that up right away!  Rate the issue on a scale of 1-10 and think about if the issue is worth discussing!  Always be open with your roommate.  It’s hard to keep secrets when you’re living so close to that person.  No matter who they are, always try to be their friends.  I know I’d rather be friends with my roommate than enemies! 

            Take all of this into consideration and enjoy having a roomie!  One day you might actually miss it!  Be honest, courteous, and open…all of these attributes go a long way!
