Why You (And I) Should Learn to Take a Compliment

Why You (And I) Should Learn to Take a Compliment
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/chelsea-crockett-Why-You-And-I-Should-Learn-to-Take-a-Compliment.jpg

Recently I have noticed something. Something that has really started to bother me. It is the fact that, as girls, we no longer know how to give and take compliments. Why is this?

One of my philosophies is that we feel like we are being self-centered or “proud” when we take a compliment. When you are told a compliment, do you shrug it off? Why do we feel like we cannot believe the positive things other people tell us? Imagine if you accepted all of the compliments that are given to you instead of shrugging them off and trying to contradict them. How much would that change your self-confidence? Believing the positive things people tell us can be such a boost! We need to learn to see the good in ourselves that others see in us.fullsizerender-65

Now for my philosophy on why we sometimes have a hard time giving compliments. This, to me, goes hand in hand with the reason we don’t take compliments as well as we should. We don’t know how the other person will react to our praise, whether they will shrug it off or accept it. I think, as girls, sometimes we can let the jealousy bug bite us. We can think that by giving another girl a compliment, we are setting them above ourselves and making them look better than we do. WRONG. Giving someone else a compliment is the simplest, but most impactful thing you can do for them! Compliments are free to give, and they can make someone’s day SO much better!

Moral of the story? Give sincere compliments, and learn to take them in return. Accept people’s praise, because you are worth their affirmation! Don’t think that by accepting a compliment you are being self-righteous or prideful. Learn to confidently accept people’s admiration with a kind smile, and understand that you deserve it. We also need to know the importance of GIVING complements. They can honestly make someone’s day. How great is it knowing you can take someone’s mood and flip it around, just by telling them that you like their outfit? It is so easy to do, so why not humble yourself and give out a compliment or two?

Life Lessons From 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Life Lessons From 1 Thessalonians 5:11
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Life-Lessons-From-1-Thessalonians-5-11.jpg

To me, one of the best things you can do for your friends and family to show them you love them and care for them is to build them up. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Encourage each other and build each other up.”1-thesselonians

This is such an important thing to have in life – people who will build you up and encourage you. And it is an important personality trait for us to have ourselves. People like to be around people who are positive and make them feel good about themselves and supported. Life is so much better when you feel like you have a support system and people that believe in you and encourage you to be successful. Be that person for someone else. Be that person that builds others up and encourages them. People will be drawn to you and will want to be around you! It is so energizing to be around positive people.

I have been trying to share tons of encouragement over my social media to try and encourage and build YOU all up. I want to be that person for you, and I pray that you would be that person for someone else.

Life Lessons from Psalm 112:7

Life Lessons from Psalm 112:7
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chelsea-crockett-life-lessons-from-psalm-112-7.jpg

“She confidently trusts the Lord to take care of her.” This is what Psalm 112:7 proclaims. I love these kinds of verses, ones that give us advice on how to trust God and where putting your faith in God can take you.122

Lets break that verse down. It starts out by saying that she CONFIDENTLY trusts the Lord. She doesn’t just trust Him. She has confidence and is sure of herself. She is sure of the Lord’s care for her life and that He has her future in the palm of His hand. Nothing surprises God. He knows just what you need when you need it. So, lets finish breaking this verse down. She confidently trusts the Lord to what? To take care of her. Isn’t that what most girls seek? To feel safe and to have the feeling that she is taken care of? God has that covered.

Trust confidently in the Lord! He will never let you down.

“Admire Someone Else’s Beauty Without Questioning Your Own”

“Admire Someone Else’s Beauty Without Questioning Your Own”
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/FullSizeRender-56.jpg

Have you ever looked at someone and immediately compared yourself to them? My guess is that almost everyone has done this, and done it many times. You look at them and think “I wish I was as skinny as her” or “I wish I had clothes as nice as hers.” I saw a quote online the other day that really hit home with me on this subject. It said “Admire someone else’s beauty without questioning your own.”beauty

What does that quote say to me? It says that you should be able to look at someone and think “Wow. She is beautiful. She dresses so nice and has such a great personality!” without immediately thinking “Am I as pretty as her? Do people think that I have a great personality and dress nice?” As girls we can be so critical of ourselves. We feel pressure to look great, dress nice, and be “put-together” all the time. Everyone is beautiful, and they are beautiful in their own way. Us girls need to be supportive of each other and compliment and admire each other’s beauty without comparing it to our own. We are all so beautifully different!

I challenge you to admire other people’s beauty without doubting or questioning your own. Being confident in yourself is one of the best things you can be!

XOXO, Chels

Be Truly Glad, There is Wonderful Joy Ahead

Be Truly Glad, There is Wonderful Joy Ahead
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/bad-news.jpg

“Be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead.” 1 Peter 1:6. I will be honest with you all. I am scared to grow up. Scared to leave for college, scared to move away from my parents, scared because the future is so uncertian. And I am sure you are all scared of many of the same things. But you know what? We should strive to be truly glad.

What do I mean? I mean we should be glad for our struggles, and glad for what life is giving us, because we are alive! We have been given the gift of life by our God, and He has allowed us to live this crazy life! The rest of the verse sasy that there is “wonderful joy ahead.” How cool is that? Even in the midst of our busy, hectic, bad newssometimes scary lives, God reminds us that there is joy ahead! Be glad for your struggles, because they are leading you to a life filled with joy! When I get worried about college and the future, I just think of the blessings that are ahead of me and how God has a plan. He has a plan to bring you and me wonderful joy! Be glad! Psalm 112:7 says “She does not fear bad news; she confidently trusts the Lord to take care of her.”

So, don’t fear bad news or the bad times, be confident that God has it under control and that he will take care of you, no matter where you are in life.

There is wonderful joy ahead!

XOXO, Chels

Proof that You are Worth it

Proof that You are Worth it
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/chelsea-crockett-Proof-that-You-are-Worth-it-.jpg

Everyone deserves to feel like they are worth their weight in gold. They deserve to feel valued, treasured, and adored. The only person who can make you feel that way, whatever place you are at in your life or wherever you are, is Jesus. We go through so much every day. The world is a harsh, scary, sad place sometimes and it can be hard to endure some days. But you know what? God is always rooting for us. He is always in the stands, ready to whip out his pom poms and cheer us on to victory. If you ever feel like you aren’t worth His love or that you are not enough, I encourage you to read these next verses. They will help give you a glimpse at how God feels b72e634fe183d2010db7309d1e7b4b37about you.

  1. “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places of Christ Jesus,” Ephesians 2:4, 6
  2. “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” Philippians 1:6
  • We are works in progress, but He isn’t done working in us yet! He has a unique purpose for each and every one of us.
  1. “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs–heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” Romans 8:16-17
  • Hear that? We are heirs of Christ! Also, God says our suffering for him will only bring us honor in heaven.
  1. The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” Psalm 138:8
  • Like I said, he has a purpose for you!
  1. ”I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.”
    Isaiah 43:25
  • You know that sin you are so ashamed of? He wiped it away. Gone. See ya.

We are so loved! So valued! So treasured by Jesus! He says you are worthy, and if Jesus says it you KNOW it is true.  You are so worth it!

XOXO, Chels

Motivation Inspiration!

Motivation Inspiration!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Chelsea-Crockett-Motivation-Inspiration.jpg

Motivation can be tough to obtain. High school, boys, a job, etc. (basically teenage life in general) can run you out of steam! The lack of motivation can kick in pretty quick. You might be striving for the perfect summer body or to feel better about yourself in general. I wanted to share with you something I recently found on Chelsea Crockett - Motivation Wall Pinterest. It’s a great way to get some energy and confidence back so you’re able to go for the goal: a motivation board!

If you’re a little confused on what I’m talking about, a perfect example is the one on the left or the one below! You can make yours any way you like. If you want more structure, create a board like the one on the left. You can make a schedule of what workouts and exercises you need to do at the gym or at home. If you’reChelsea Crockett - Motivation Board determined to lose any pounds, add in a countdown! You can decorate it with motivational quotes or pictures to give you a little inspiration when you need it!

Another way to decorate it is like the board below. If you want to take the looser, simpler route, just decorate it with several sayings that provide some encouragement. Put it in front of your mirror or on your dresser to give you a boost in the mornings before a long day of school (which I think we could all use!).

Let me know how your own board turns out :)!

Love, Chelsea

5 Words to Live By

5 Words to Live By
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Chelsea-Crockett-Words-to-Live-By.jpg

It may be cliché to say this, but life is full of many ups and downs. I lost count of the days that didn’t go as I had hoped or planned! In church, in school, and in everyday life, I’ve learned a few words that help me get through whatever I’m dealing with, without losing a positive attitude.

  1. Faith. I’ve learned in EVERY situation, that you have to have faith. Without putting my trust and hope in God, I can easily get discouraged. Sometimes so discouraged that I end up not even trying in the first place!Chelsea Crockett - Happiness

  2. Happiness. If you don’t strive towards happiness, how can you live a life you enjoy? I’ve learned that if something or someone isn’t making you happy, it’s best to get rid of whatever it is bringing you down.

  3. Forgiveness. Being a forgiving person not only helps you, but the person you’re forgiving, as well. Forgiving is a domino effect. Once you let go of something with your friend or someone in your family, it doesn’t go unnoticed. Compassion spreads, so why not pass it along yourself?

  4. Love. Love doesn’t only mean finding someone and falling head over heels for them. Love should be shown to anyone and everyone, whether you’re at school or at church. Next time you’re about to comment negatively about someone, show love and lift them up instead of tearing them down!

  5. Patience. Having patience is one of the greatest virtues in life. Things don’t always happen right when you want them to. Waiting patiently is something you’ll learn as you mature. The love of your life is out there, you just might not find them in high school!

Keep these words in mind and live a life filled with joy and happiness!

Love, Chels
