Fads: Trends That Won"t Last Long

Have you ever noticed how every year there are new fashion trends that become extremely popular for a short amount of time?  Well those are called fads!  Most of the time they are super cute fashion ideas or clothing items, but they usually don’t last very long.  I’ll break down a few of this year’s biggest fads to help you stay on top of the fashion world, but to also help you save money, so you don’t buy too much of something that may go out of style quickly!

Peplum tops are one of the prettiest and most feminine tops a girl can own!  With its flattering shape and fun patterns and colors, who wouldn’t want to own a peplum or two?!  Unfortunately, this trend won’t last very long.  Now, don’t go throw out your peplums and definitely make sure you own one or two.  It will slowly fade.  Enjoy your pretty top for the time being!

Ombré hair, in my opinion, is one of the coolest hair trends of all time!  It’s such an edgy look that can be dressed up or down.  Although this look is pretty awesome, those who have it may be dying their hair back to a solid color eventually.  This look became popular fast, which means it will die out fast as well.  It’s definitely not a timeless look, but it’s fun for the time being!

Last, sneakers that have a heel are one of the craziest fads around.  They were first seen on celebrity kids and teens and shortly began popping up in shoe stores everywhere!  They are the craziest looking shoes!  Those who own these shoes will get tired of them fast.  This trend will not last long at all!  I hope this little guide to fads helped.  Enjoy these quirky and fun trends while they last, but don’t buy too many of them!

Besides the obvious Christmas tunes and fresh baked cookies, there are so many things I love about the holiday season. One of which, is decking the halls at my house! Not only that, but getting to decorate my room however I’d like as well! This year, I’ve thought up a few ideas to make my room as seasonal as possible. Here are a few that I came up with:

• When you think of Christmas decorations, what are the first things you think of? Lights! If you have any spare ones at home, set them up in your room! You can put them anywhere you’d like. They’re both calming and cozy :).


• Another decoration that’s in almost every house is a Christmas tree! Not that you have to set up a full-sized tree in your room, but there are many stores where you can purchase a mini tree that’s perfect for your bedroom. You can even buy a tree that matches your room… It doesn’t always have to be green :)!


• If you’re bored and have time to do a little DIY, this one is creative. Remember when you were little and used to make snowflakes out of paper? Well you can do the same with coffee filters and tape them to your windows like the picture on the right!


• Another DIY that could be fun for you and your friends, is painting the first letter of your name in Christmas colors and decorating it! For me, I would buy a wooden “C” that I could paint green with red polka dots. Then I could outline the dots in silver glitter! You could strap on some ribbon and hang it from your door handle!

Highlighter is a beauty gem. It can do so much for you, from making you look more awake to contouring your face! I wanted to learn how to get the most out of my highlighter, so I did a little research. According to my sleuthing, here are the top 4 ways to use highlighter!

Under your brow bone: If you apply highlighter just under your brow bone, just above the crease in your eyelid, it will give the illusion of larger eyes!

On the apple of the cheek: If your goal is glowing skin, apply a small dot of highlighter in the center of the apple of your cheek over your blush.

On the bridge of the nose: Looking to contour your nose? Apply highlighter along the bridge of your nose and gently blend foundation that is a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone on the sides to make your nose appear slimmer!

On the inner corner of the eye: If you stayed up a bit too late and need to LOOK awake even though you totally don’t FEEL awake, then use this handy trick. Add a dab of highlighter to the inner corner of your eyes to brighten up dark areas.

Searching for and picking out gifts can be surprisingly difficult, especially when you don’t know who’s going to get it! Gift exchanges are fun, but tough to actually find the gift you’re going to bring. No worries… I’m here to help! Here are a few suggestions I came up with:

• FOOD! Who doesn’t love food? There’s a huge variety of Christmas treats that are perfect for a little present. Cookies, cake pops, or peppermint brownies are just a few examples of sweets you can whip up!


• As you know, I’m obsessssssed with DIYs. There are several “do it yourself” recipes for scrubs and other body products that are inexpensive and perfect for a gift. One of my favorites is the peppermint body scrub, it’s perfect for the season :)!


• When you think of winter, what’s one of the first things you think of? For me, I think of hot coffees and hot chocolates. You can buy a cute and creative mug and fill it with packets of different types of hot drinks!


• Since clothes and shoes are out of the picture for exchanges, makeup or nail polish is a good replacement!  You don’t have to find the right size or spend a lot of money. It’s simple and a necessity for any girl :)!

It’s hard to stay warm in the winter, so what better way than throwing on a stylish beanie/hat or throwing up your hood?  Of course this will help keep you warm, but it really messes up your hair (unless of course you’re covering up bedhead.)  If your wish is to keep picture perfect hair, then keep on reading!

Start by washing and blow drying your hair…the more volume the better.  Throw some volumizing moose on your roots right after the shower to keep them from going flat.  Synthetic fiber hats make hair extremely static-y.  By sticking to the real stuff, wool or cotton, your hair is more likely to keep its original form.  Make sure when styling your hair to keep it loose.  This means straight or loose curls.  Your hair needs to breathe, so keeping it in a firm style or wearing a tight hair will only cause more creases.  If you do decide to wear a tighter hat, move the hat around every once in a while.  This way it won’t crease your hair.

When times call for desperate measures and your hat does ruin your hair, keep a small bottle of dry shampoo with you in your purse.  This way to can quickly touch it up before getting to where you need to go!  No need to be scared of hats anymore!

I have been searching for cute gifts to give my friends for Christmas and decoration ideas for Christmas parties, and I think I have found just the thing! I found a way to make adorable snow globes that are super cheap and super easy to make! Here is how to make this cute holiday goodie:

What you need:

• Glass jar with a metal lid


• Super glue


• Glitter


• Something to go inside the globe, such as a figurine or statue

1.Glue down your object to the lid of the jar. You can put anything in the globe, for example you could glue a Princess Elsa figuring if you are doing a “Frozen” themed party, something cute like that!

2. Add some glitter to the jar.


3. Fill the jar with water.


4. Add super glue to the lid of the jar and glue the lid onto the jar.

There you have it! Your DIY glitter globe is now complete. This craft is a great to do with friends on a cold snowy day when you are stuck indoors or at Christmas parties!

Being beautiful is something that every girl wants to be; and I’m not talking about physical appearances only.  Being beautiful on the inside and out is the most perfect thing a girl can strive for.  So why are so many young girls smoking?  Is it to look cool?  Is it to get skinnier?  Whatever the reason may be, it’s time that it stops!  To be beautiful, put the cigarette down and learn these hard-hitting facts.

1. Smoking causes pre-mature aging, which can add 10 years on to your looks in the long run.


2. Hate dark bags around your eyes? Smoking only makes them worse. It also causes fine lines around the outer corners of your eyes.


3. The constant holding and puffing of the cigarette in your mouth will gradually make deep lines develop around your lips. Lipstick no longer looks good.


4. Want whiter teeth? Smoking causes teeth to turn a yellow tint and can even damage your gums resulting in the loss of teeth! Scary, right?!


5. The chemicals in cigarettes deprive your body of oxygen, therefore taking away the oxygen supply from your hair. It will no longer be shiny or have volume.


6. Your body can also be affected by a yellow tint that can form around your arm pits and fingers. Get used to long sleeve tops and sweaters!


7. One of the most unattractive traits is the smell. Who wants to kiss someone that has had smoke in their mouth? Not me!!

Being beautiful is taking care of your body and treating it the healthy way.  If you see a friend try cigarettes, do the right thing and talk to them.  Why lose your beauty over a puff of smoke?
