4 Tips for Masking Greasy Hair

4 Tips for Masking Greasy Hair
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/FullSizeRender-4-2.jpg

Greasy hair is a struggle for us all.  They say you’re not supposed to wash your hair every day, but when you don’t, your hair becomes a greasy mess!  Especially if you have thick hair like me, you know the struggle.  If you have this problem too, here are 5 tips that will help you out!

  • Dry Shampoo. If you’ve never used dry shampoo, then get ready to be amazed! It does wonders for your hair.  Spray a little bit of this on your hair at any time of the day and it’ll give it the lift it needs.

  • Baby Powder. If you don’t have any dry shampoo lying around, baby powder almost works just as well!  I found this trick hard to believe, but it really does work!  Sprinkle a small amount of powder around your scalp to disappear any grease your hair has.  It’s a cheap and quick method to substitute for dry shampoo!

  • Hats and Headbands. As you can already guess, hats and headbands are the perfect cover-up for greasy hair.  They’re the key solution to any messy hair day, trust me!

  • Braid it. Braiding the top of your hair makes for a cute hairstyle while still doing a good job of covering up dirty hair!  You can still look good on your way to class without worrying about it!

Have any other tips you can give me?  Share your tricks with me in the comments below!

4 Ways to Get Ready Faster in the Morning

4 Ways to Get Ready Faster in the Morning
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/chelsea-crockett-4-Ways-to-Get-Ready-Faster-in-the-Morning.jpg

If you take advantage of every extra minute of sleep you can get, then you are like me and are always looking for ways to get ready faster in the morning to allow time to sleep in longer. Here are a few of my signature get-ready-faster tactics.

  1. Keep a pouch of essentials: Keep a small zipper pouch full of your daily essentials like gum, lip color, keys, mascara, and aspirin, that way if you switch purses or backpacks all you have to worry about is grabbing the pouch and you will know you have everything you need for the day.

  2. Document your outfits: When you find an outfit you like, take a picture of it before you leave for the day. That way, if you are ever out of outfit inspiration and are running late and can’t pick out an outfit for the day, you can go to your “outfits” folder on your phone and quickly see an ensemble that worked for you and then you can easily recreate it.

  3. Quick dry your hair: If you have time to wash your hair in the morning, don’t blow dry it right after your shower. Wrap it in an absorbent towel, go eat breakfast and get ready, then blow dry it. Blow drying your hair in a steamy bathroom can cause it to frizz up and also takes longer to dry. Waiting lets your bathroom air out.

  4. Dry shampoo before bed: This helps the dry shampoo soak up oils while you sleep and gives you clean looking/smelling hair in the morning! This saves you time because you don’t have to go wash your hair.

Warm Weather Beauty Musts

Warm Weather Beauty Musts
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/chelsea-crockett-warm-weather-beauty-musts.jpg

Spring and summer are characterized by warm temperatures, great times with friends, fun adventures with family, and again, warm temperatures. Rising temps can do a number on our beauty regimen, making our hair frizzy and our makeup drippy. Here are a few tips on how to warm-weather-proof your look this season!

  1. Avoid sweaty styling: There is nothing worse than blowdrying your hair in the spring and summer and being a sweaty mess after your hair is finished drying. I mean, you JUST got out of the shower and you are already a sweaty mess. One way to avoid this is to apply deodorant to the back of your neck a few minutes before you blow dry.

  2. Update your dry shampoo techniques: In the summer, it is actually better to apply your dry shampoo at night. Spray your roots at night so that it can absorb the oil and sweat throughout the night.

  3. Aloe vera to the rescue: It is inevitable. You are bound to get a sunburn at some point this summer! Even when you apply it meticulously, you are bound to miss a spot. In anticipation, fill up an ice cube tray with aloe vera gel and keep it in the freezer for those days when you burn crisp.

  4. Sweat stains be gone: It is embarrassing to admit, but sweat stains accompany the warm weather. Squeeze lemon juice onto the sweat stains before tossing the clothes in the laundry. The acidity in the juice will take the stains right out.

Follow these tips and your look will be totally heat-proof!

Top 5 Sephora Beauty Buys So Far in 2017

Top 5 Sephora Beauty Buys So Far in 2017
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Chelsea-Crockett-Sephora-Beauty-Buys.jpg

Sephora is one of my go-to places when it comes to buying makeup.  It has one of the best selections of my favorite brands and products!  So far in 2017, there’s already a list of best-selling products that have been super popular in stores.  Here are the top five from last month so you can give them a try, too!

  • Amika Polished Perfection Straightening Brush ($120).  I’ve always been skeptical if straightening brushes actually work.  It may be expensive, but it’s one of their best-selling products at the time so it definitely guarantees to gets the job done!    Chelsea Crockett - Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam

  • Becca Soft Light Blurring Powder ($38).  It can be hard to get the perfect texture and tone after applying your makeup.  This powder helps to smooth out any blemishes or uneven texture.

  • Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam ($28).  Different from other dry shampoo sprays, this foam leaves your hair with added volume and texture than before!  Sprays can sometimes add to the greasiness of your hair, but with this light formula you don’t have to worry about too much product.

  • Bumble and Bumble Surf Foam Spray Blow Dry ($31).  A two-in-one foam spray?  Count me in!  This product gives your hair all the texture and volume you could want.

  • Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara ($26).  Everyone has that one mascara that’s their go-to product.  This mascara makes your lashes look as smooth as velvet!

Which product are you most interested in trying out?  Let me know in the comments below!

Easy Messy Curls

Easy Messy Curls
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/chelsea-crockett-easy-messy-curls.jpg

When styling your hair into curls, there are two categories: fresh curls and messy curls. Both are great styles and are worn for different reasons. Fresh curls are meant to look pretty and put-together, whereas messy curls are a more “everyday” “effortless” casual look. I love the way my hair looks when it is freshly curled. The curls are all bouncy and shiny! Buuuuut, there is something to be said about “second day” curls. They are looser, messier, and give off that “effortless” look. Want to know how to get “second day” curls without having to sleep on them/wait a whole day? Stay tuned!mcx-beach-sprays-ogx

  1. The first step is to divide your hair into sections and curl it how you normally do. You can use a curling iron, wand, straightener, whichever you prefer!

  2. Okay, so after you have curled all of your hair, take your fingers and run them through your hair. The goal is to loosen up the curls and separate them. You can also use a wide-toothed comb for this step instead of your fingers!

  3. Take some dry shampoo or texture spray and spray it throughout your hair, on the roots and the curls. This will “dirty up” your hair and make it a little messier. I also use sea salt spray to mess it up a bit.

See how easy it is to get “second day” curls on the first day? Super-duper easy! Let me know in the comment section if your “second day” curls turned out cute!

Your Dry Shampoo Guide

Your Dry Shampoo Guide
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Blend-1.jpg

I cannot tell you how many times dry shampoo has saved me. There is nothing better than a douse of dry shampoo when your hair is feeling yucky and you are in a pinch for time. There are 3 different types of dry shampoo that you can use to rescue your roots, and today we are going to talk about them all and how they differ so you can chose the one that works best for you!

  1. The usual, powdery spray: This is the type I typically use. It has a powdery feel and absorbs the oils in my hair. It is crazy easy to use and comes either odorless or with refreshing scents (which is my personal fav). The only downside to this kind is the white powdery residue that happens when you spray this stuff. If you have dark hair, the spray can stick out! There are many brands that work with dark haired beauties to eliminate this problem.Dove-dry

  2. Loose powder: This stuff is surprisingly easy to work with! All you do is shake a little bit onto your roots and work it into your hair until it is completely absorbed. Some people like this kind better than the spray because you have more control over how much product goes where.

  3. Paste: Dry shampoo in paste form not only works its oil absorbing magic, it also serves as a styling product! Double the awesome.

What’s your favorite kind of dry shampoo and what works best with your hair? I am glad there are so many different kinds, everyone’s hair is different so it is nice to have a choice!

How to Feel Fresh When You Haven"t Showered

How to Feel Fresh When You Haven"t Showered
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/chelsea-crockett-how-to-feel-fresh-when-you-havent-showered.jpg

Let’s face it. We all strive to shower every day, but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. Life gets busy, schedules get tighter, you have places to go and people to see and no time to take a shower! There are a few ways to get the just-showered fresh feeling without taking the time to, well, actually shower. So, if you’ve been busy all day and don’t have time to hop in the shower before heading out the door, here are a couple of ways to freshen up fast.

  1. Hair fragrance mist: Good-smelling hair is always a confidence booster. When you have fresh hair, you feel fresh all over, that is why hair mist is a must. Spritz some hair fragrance mist onto your locks before running out the door to leave your tresses smelling fabulous.k2-_58f0fc6c-3aae-4f3b-bc0f-8b25b94f9ae3.v1
  2. Dry shampoo: If you don’t have hair mist, opt for dry shampoo! It will suck up all of the oils and sweat from your hair and leave it smelling and looking fresh.
  3. Blotting papers: Use absorbent facial blotting papers to blot away the excess oil on your face throughout the day. I know when I have a busy day and I am going from one task to another, I can feel my face getting oily and shiny. These keep your makeup looking fresh and matte by dabbing the excess oil off of your face.
  4. Baby wipes: Use any sort of wet wipe to freshen up during the day. Keep a package in your purse so that you can freshen up any time you need. These give your skin a quick refresher and leave you smelling and feeling fresh and clean.

I know how crazy busy life can get, and how showering can become a sort of chore because you have way better uses of your time than standing in a stream of water, so that is why these tips are so useful!

What Happens When You Quit Washing Your Hair

What Happens When You Quit Washing Your Hair
https://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/chelsea-crockett-What-Happens-When-You-Quit-Washing-Your-Hair.jpg

Recently I have been reading on my favorite bloggers’ sites that they barely wash their hair. Like, Cara Loren recently blogged that she doesn’t wash it for a week, and her hair is always so gorgeous! It blows my mind! How can people not wash their hair yet it still looks that good? I found out a few of their secrets, and today Ill share them with you. So, what exactly happens when you quit washing your hair so often?

  1. You fall in love with dry shampoo: For people who go a while between lathers, dry shampoo is their bff. They rely on this miracle spray to keep their hair less oily and smelling nice! It also makes it easy to style.download
  2. It will be easier to style: Every time I go to a salon to get my hair done for events like prom and homecoming, the stylist always tells me to come with “dirty hair”. This is because it holds the style better! Clean hair is slippery.
  3. Less split ends: Washing your hair is rough on it, between the lathering rinsing and repeating. It also dries out your ends, which leads them to split, so washing less = less split ends!
  4. Your color will last longer: If you color or highlight your hair, you know that washing dulls your color over time. So, washing less = longer lasting color.

Now, I am not sure that I can go a week without washing my hair, but I could go a few days to see if I reap any of these benefits!

4 Items Every Girl Needs in Her Bathroom

4 Items Every Girl Needs in Her Bathroom
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/chelsea-crockett-4-Items-Every-Girl-Needs-in-Her-Bathroom.jpg

What are some staple items in your bathroom that you use on a daily basis? No, I don’t mean the toilet, I mean skin/hair/general beauty items! There are a few things I think every girl should have in her bathroom, just to make sure she has everything she may need to maintain her beauty, right at her disposal! Feeling unprepared is the worrrrst. Here are 4 such items!

  1. Dry shampoo: Washing our hair every day is so overrated! Every other day is much healthier, and if you can hold out longer, that’s even better! This is why dry shampoo is a vital product to have in your bathroom. Spray some on your roots before you go to bed to allow it to absorb the oils as you sleep, and top it off with a little spritz in the morning when you wake up.
  2. Coconut oil: This stuff is amazing. Keep it in a jar by your sink and use it to moisturize, remove your makeup, and even as shaving cream!18kxz3udb60v8jpg
  3. SPF moisturizer: The best way to prevent wrinkles is to protect your skin from the sun! Use a SPF moisturizer every day to ward off those harmful rays.
  4. A truckload of bobby pins: It never fails. I will start off the month with a full pack of bobby pins, and when the end of the month rolls around, I cannot find a single one of them. The best solution is to either keep a ton of them in your bathroom, or rig up a magnet to stick them to once you take them out, like the picture on the right!

Having these items in my bathroom makes me feel prepared for anything my beauty routine may throw at me!

How to Keep Your Hair from Looking Greasy

How to Keep Your Hair from Looking Greasy
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/chelsea-crockett-How-to-Keep-Your-Hair-from-Looking-Greasy-.jpg

Some people’s hair is more oily than others. For those of us with oily hair, we know what a nuisance it can be and how insecure it can make us feel. Your hair type and the habits you keep can really impact how quickly it gets oily, so here are a few tips on how to keep the oil at bay as long as possible.

  1. Wash your hair less: I know it sounds crazy, but it is true. Your scalp is stripped of it’s natural oils when you wash it so it has to work overtime to produce more oils to keep your scalp healthy, causing them to overproduce. Washing every other day or k2-_58f0fc6c-3aae-4f3b-bc0f-8b25b94f9ae3.v1every few days can really help reduce your scalp’s oil production.
  2. Concentrate conditioner on the ends: Putting conditioner all over your hair can totally weight it down and cause oily roots, so concentrate conditioner from the middle to the end of your hair shaft.
  3. Invest in dry shampoo: I love dry shampoo. Like I LOVE it. It sucks the oil from your roots and leaves you with fresh smelling locks.
  4. Avoid touching your hair: Because your fingertips and face both produce oil that can easily be transferred to your hair, so avoid touching your hair. Also avoid hair styles where your hair is touching your face.
  5. Don’t straighten your hair too much: When you straighten your hair it lies close to your head, and the closer to your head it lies the closer it is to coming in contact with oil.

Hopefully these tips help you keep your hair grease free for longer!

XOXO, Chels

Hairstyles for Dirty Hair

Hairstyles for Dirty Hair
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/chelsea-crockett-hairsyles-for-dirty-hair-.jpg
Washing my hair every day is such a hassle since it is so long. Plus, washing your hair every day strips it of its natural oils and can reduce its shine. Here are a few easy hair styles for dirty hair.195b2c69b35c7114a1b6c8a93146a71f

  1. Beach waves: I curl my hair one day, wear it curly, sleep on it, and then wear the same curls the next say. Curl some beachy waves into your hair and then mess them up so you can rock the messy look for two days in a row!

  2. Dry shampoo: Spray some dry shampoo onto your roots and the crown of your hair and let it sit while you brush your teeth and put your makeup on. Then brush it with your fingers and work the shampoo in until you cannot see it any more. Tease your crown, and put a few loose curls in with a curling iron.

  3. Loose side braid: The windswept, sloppy look is so in right now, and thank goodness it is! Loosly braid your hair into a messy side braid to keep it out of your face all day.

  4. Half up half down: Grab a handful of bobby pins and twist the top half of your hair near the crown into a small bun. Pin your baby bun, and boom, adorable updoo.

Having two/three day old hair isn’t the end of the world!

Spring and summer are characterized by warm temperatures, great times with friends, fun adventures with family, and again, warm temperatures. Rising temps can do a number on our beauty regimen, making our hair frizzy and our makeup drippy. Here are a few tips on how to warm weather-proof your look this season!53a086c912c37_-_cos-suave-dry-shampoo-0311-blog

  1. Avoid sweaty styling: There is nothing worse than blowdrying your hair in the summer and being a sweaty mess after your hair is finished drying. I mean, you JUST got out of the shower and you are already a smelly sight.

Follow these tips and your look will be totally summer-proof!

Fix Winter Hat Hair

Fix Winter Hat Hair
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Chelsea-Crockett-Fix-Winter-Hat-Hair.jpg

It’s hard to stay warm in the winter, so what better way than throwing on a stylish beanie/hat or throwing up your hood?  Of course this will help keep you warm, but it really messes up your hair (unless of course you’re covering up bedhead.)  If your wish is to keep picture perfect hair, then keep on reading!Chelsea Crockett- winter hats

Start by washing and blow drying your hair…the more volume the better.  Throw some volumizing moose on your roots right after the shower to keep them from going flat.  Synthetic fiber hats make hair extremely static-y.  By sticking to the real stuff, wool or cotton, your hair is more likely to keep its original form.  Make sure when styling your hair to keep it loose.  This means straight or loose curls.  Your hair needs to breathe, so keeping it in a firm style or wearing a tight hair will only cause more creases.  If you do decide to wear a tighter hat, move the hat around every once in a while.  This way it won’t crease your hair.

When times call for desperate measures and your hat does ruin your hair, keep a small bottle of dry shampoo with you in your purse.  This way to can quickly touch it up before getting to where you need to go!  No need to be scared of hats anymore!

XOXO,

Chelsea

5 Tips for Teasing Your Hair

5 Tips for Teasing Your Hair
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/teasing-blend.jpg

Teasing your hair can be a daunting task. Knowing how to tease your hair and the steps to take when teasing it can be crucial if you ever want full hair with lots of body! Here are 4 tips to teasing your hair:

1. Start off on the right foot: get a good teasing brush! I recommend a brush with boar bristles. When washing your hair in the shower, do not use conditioner. The silicone in conditioner prevents the hair from locking in texture!

2. Do the prep work: When your hair is damp, spray the roots with a sea salt spray. Then add in your favorite mousse and blow dry your hair! When your hair is dry, spray dry shampoo to the roots.chelsea crockett teased hair

3. The manual labor: Once your hair is totally dry and you have sprayed the dry shampoo on your roots, take a section of hair about a half inch wide. Hold your hair tightly and straight back, away from your head. Then tease the section! Use the pointed end of the handle of the brush to shape your hair after you have teased it.

4. Make it last: When you spray your hair with hairspray, make sure the spray is not water based, because that will make your freshly teased ‘do all frizzy! Hold the hairspray the length of the can away from your hair and spray in the direction you want your hair to lay. Finish the look off with shine spray!

How to Pull Off “Bed-Head” Hair

How to Pull Off “Bed-Head” Hair
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Chelsea-Crockett-How-to-Pull-Off-“Bed-Head”-Hair.jpg

Waking up in the morning is tough enough, but waking up early and being in a rush can be a total disaster!  Between deciding what to wear and doing your makeup, there’s barely enough time to give your hair a little TLC.  Luckily, there is a way to pull off that crazy bed head you get from a long nights sleep.  In a few simple steps you can achieve the perfect messy hair…think of it as “un-styling” your hair.Chelsea Crockett- bed head hair

First and foremost, you have to embrace your natural hair texture.  By playing off your hairs natural waves or curls, you’ll be able to style your hair much faster and easier.  Start by brushing out tangles with a wide-toothed comb, NOT a hairbrush.  A comb will take out specific tangles, while a hair brush will get rid of your natural texture.  Next, run water through your fingers and add it to the pieces of hair that look the limpest.  This will add body to dull, lifeless strands.  Add dry shampoo to your roots for freshness and volume.  A little dry shampoo goes a long way for instant fullness.

It’s as simple as that, and no heat is required!  Embrace that perfectly beautiful and messy bed head!

DIY Dry Shampoo!

DIY Dry Shampoo!
http://www.chelseacrockett.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Chelsea-Crockett-DIY-dry-shampoo.jpg

You all know I love dry shampoo. I am pretty sure that it is one of the best inventions to hit the beauty market. It helps dry up the oils in your hair so that it doesn’t look greasy, and it can help your hair hold a tease! Dry shampoo can sometimes be expensive and can cause product buildup on your hair. I found a DIY recipe for dry shampoo and got so excited. You can make this stuff for less than 2$ a bottle! You cannot beat that!

Recipe for dark hair:

  • 1/4 cup Cornstarchtumblr_mljrehPMNC1qdwkufo1_1280
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa
  • 5-10 drops Essential Oil (e.g. Pink Grapefruit, Lavender, etc.)

Mix all of these ingredients together in a small bowl. My suggestion is that you put the ingredients into an old spice bottle because the spice bottles have holes in the lids so you can sprinkle the dry shampoo on your roots easier.

     Recipe for light hair:

  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Baking Soda
  • 5-10 drops Essential Oil (e.g. Pink Grapefruit, Lavender, etc.)

Do the same exact steps as in the first recipe. You can use a makeup brush to apply the powder to your scalp as another application option.

Want to save some money? Try out these awesome DIY’s!

XOXO, Chels
