4 Tips for Masking Greasy Hair

Greasy hair is a struggle for us all.  They say you’re not supposed to wash your hair every day, but when you don’t, your hair becomes a greasy mess!  Especially if you have thick hair like me, you know the struggle.  If you have this problem too, here are 5 tips that will help you out!

• Dry Shampoo. If you’ve never used dry shampoo, then get ready to be amazed! It does wonders for your hair.  Spray a little bit of this on your hair at any time of the day and it’ll give it the lift it needs.


• Baby Powder. If you don’t have any dry shampoo lying around, baby powder almost works just as well!  I found this trick hard to believe, but it really does work!  Sprinkle a small amount of powder around your scalp to disappear any grease your hair has.  It’s a cheap and quick method to substitute for dry shampoo!


• Hats and Headbands. As you can already guess, hats and headbands are the perfect cover-up for greasy hair.  They’re the key solution to any messy hair day, trust me!


• Braid it. Braiding the top of your hair makes for a cute hairstyle while still doing a good job of covering up dirty hair!  You can still look good on your way to class without worrying about it!

This generation is the generation of smartphones.  We don’t want to admit it, but we love our phones and depend on them for more than we realize!  I’ve written many articles and have even made videos about various beauty and fashion hacks, but what about some iPhone secrets?  You can thank me later! 🙂

• Faster charging.  If you need a quick charge for your iPhone, put it on airplane mode while it’s plugged in.  This turns off all of its features so it’s using minimal battery while trying to charge up!


• Fall asleep listening to music.  If you like a little background music while you fall asleep, you can set a timer to turn off your music for you!  As long as it’s through Apple music or Spotify, you can go to your clock app, select the timer tab, and select “Stop Playing” in the “When Timer Ends” setting like the picture on the right.  It’ll shut your music off for you when the timer is done!


• Better selfie editing.  If you download Facetune for $0.99, you can get rid of annoying pimples and blemishes.  It also has tons of cool features to perfect your pic.


• Improving battery life.  If you’re phone is running low on battery, you can go to the battery tab of the settings app and switch on the “low power mode” setting.  It turns off unnecessary features to stretch out your battery life for up to hours at a time!

The list of brilliant beauty hacks I’ve found online is endless. The amount of crazy ideas and tricks with different products and utensils keeps getting bigger and bigger. Recently, I came across an article that had several beauty tricks using a spoon! What??? Since I was curious, I tried some of them out. To my surprise, they’re brilliant!

• Ever have trouble getting your contour just right? Take a spoon and place it on your cheekbone. Then use your bronzer or contour kit to make the perfect line! (Don’t forget to blend!)
• One of the most annoying things is applying mascara and getting it on your eyelid. Then you have to figure out how to get it off without messing up your lashes! Place a spoon on your eyelid to avoid this mistake. (This works for your bottom lashes, too!)
• As teenagers, we don’t get as much sleep as we should. I often wake up with bags under my eyes from not getting enough sleep the night before. Keep a spoon in your fridge to get it nice and cold and apply it to your dark circles in the morning. It’ll help reduce the puffiness!
• If you’ve ever shattered blush, bronzer, or eye shadow, you know how frustrating it can be. Use a spoon to press the product back together! It may not solve all your problems, but it will press it back to its original state (as best as it can!).

I’m a firm believer in getting outside and spending my long summer days in the sun. But sometimes sunscreen or clouds can’t shield you from the after-effects of the sun. But luckily, aloe vera can provide some major relief for when the sun strikes!

Simply moisturizing your burn with aloe will do the trick, but I’ve learned a few hacks on how to use it to your benefit even more! First off, make your bottle of aloe cold by setting it in your refrigerator for a couple hours. Your sunburn will thank you when you apply the reliever ice cold. If you want to go to the extreme, you can even make aloe ice cubes to rub on your burns! Just purchase an ice cube mold and fill each slot with aloe vera. Treat them like you would normal ice cubes. Wait a few hours for them to solidify and pop them out of the mold when needed!

Apart from soothing sunburns, did you know aloe can actually help get rid of acne? It contains zinc and other minerals that help improve blemishes and other damaged skin. Aloe also helps bring a glow to your skin. Its uses don’t stop after aiding sunburns. There’s an array of tricks that aloe can be used for. So… you’re getting tons of uses of products for the price of one :)!

Out of the abundance of beauty products in the world, most wouldn’t consider Vaseline anywhere near the top of the list. But unlike most products, Vaseline has several life-saving uses that little people know about! Here are some that I couldn’t live without, and you shouldn’t either :).

1. Believe it or not, Vaseline can act as an eye makeup remover. It works perfectly to erase any mascara on your lashes or left underneath your eye. It’ll also hydrate your lashes and make your skin a little smoother!


2. If you don’t have any aloe around, apply some Vaseline to your sunburn. My favorite way to do this is right before I go to sleep. Wherever your burn is, rub in some Vaseline and wear a long-sleeved shirt or pants. That way your Vaseline won’t rub off when you crawl into bed.


3. What is one thing every girl dreams of having? Perfect eyebrows… DUH! Vaseline is great for defining your brows but only in certain amounts. Don’t apply too much or your brows will look greasy.


4. This one is a little more widely known. Some scented chap sticks or balms can sometimes have an opposite reaction to chapped lips, or they do absolutely nothing at all. Vaseline guarantee’s recovery to smooth, soft lips and even adds a little shine :)!


5. As a beauty guru, I always want to tell my insiders the best way to do things at the cheapest price. Instead of spending the money on cheek highlighters or illuminators, lightly swipe on a thin layer of Vaseline on your cheek bones to seal your look.

Hot weather can be a blessing and a curse. Beautiful days spent in the sun can be a sneaky disguise for beauty disasters such as frizzy hair or clogged pores… YUCK! I have a few hacks on how deal with the hot outdoors and get one step ahead of the Mother Nature!

• What’s one of the first things that pops into your head when you think of summer nights? BUGS. Yuck. I learned a trick to help keep the mosquitoes away! Rub dryer sheets all over your clothes/body and keep one in your back pocket. It works just as well, if not better, than bug spray.


• I cannot stress my love for dry shampoo enough. Use it at night before you go to sleep and you’ll literally feel the difference the next morning. It gives the shampoo time to absorb any sweat or oil left in your hair.


• NEVER underestimate the power of deodorant! Just because you put on a few swipes before your day doesn’t mean you don’t have to reapply. They have tons of different scents in the travel size for you to throw in your purse. Plus, it’s there if you forget to apply… which is a nightmare!


• Waterproof makeup is a must during the summer if you’re going to be spending most of your days outside. Whether you’re swimming or just plain sweating, you’ll need some makeup that’ll stay on your skin!

Eyes are the first thing you notice about someone. Whether it’s their gorgeous eye shadow or popping eye color, they draw attention along with luscious, long lashes. Some of us are lucky enough to be born with gorgeous lashes… most of us aren’t so fortunate. Here are a few natural ways to stimulate growth to give you fabulous eye lashes :)!

• Try brushing your lashes before you apply mascara for a few minutes daily. Make sure your eye lash brush is soft bristled. You don’t want to accidentally hurt them instead of help them. That’s simple enough, right?


• Petroleum jelly is good for chapped lips, dry skin, etc., but it can also help your lash length! For this, you can do one of two things. Either apply it to your mascara wand or apply it using a lash comb. Both remedies work and will help with moisturizing and stimulating growth.


• Some vitamins that help your hair grow work just as well for lashes, too! Biotin, for example, is a B-vitamin that can help with brittle nails, hair health, etc., and surprisingly works for your eye lashes as well.


• Castor oil! This is probably the most recommended remedy. Apply some of it to your lashes before you go to sleep and leave it on overnight. I promise, you’ll see a difference soon enough!


• Green tea isn’t only for drinking. Apply it with a cotton ball to your lashes and let them soak for a few minutes.

What’s the first thing someone notices about you? Your smile! And what surrounds your dazzling smile? A pair of gorgeous lips! You can gloss them up or throw on a bright pink lip stick. There are many products that help plump your lips, but here are a few natural, inexpensive ways of doing so!

• Exfoliate! This is the easiest and most recommended way to get the job done. It not only removes dead skin and makes your lips softer but stimulates blood flow to the lips causing them to look a little bit bigger than they actually are.


• Cinnamon. This ingredient increases blood flow, just like exfoliating. There are many, many DIY cinnamon lip plumpers recipes you can look up online! Pinterest is a hot spot for “do it yourself” remedies!


• Eye shadow. You are probably extremely confused as to why eye shadow could help your lips. Well… it can help create any illusion of bigger lips! First apply your lipstick or gloss and pick a shimmery (or white) eye shadow. Apply it to the inner centers of your lower and upper lip. The effect your lips will have is gorgeous :)!


• Lastly, don’t be afraid to try out a lip pencil. This will give you beautifully defined lips as well as amplify your look. Get a slightly darker shade than your lipstick/gloss and go to town!

When I think of eyeliner, I typically picture myself using it to line my upper and lower lid.  Eyeliner is the perfect way to bring out your eyes, but did you know it has tons of other uses as well?!  Check out all these tricky eyeliner hacks to make your next makeup application a breeze.

• If you have trouble applying liquid eyeliner, especially for a winged look, start by outlining it in pencil and going over the line with liquid. Use the pencil as a source of direction.


• If you have a light colored eye shadow that doesn’t show up well, start by priming your eye lid with white eyeliner and then putting the shadow over it.


• For an instant eye lift, put a line of white eyeliner under and above your eyebrow and blend it in. This will highlight your brows creating an illusion that they are lifted.


• If your pencil liner is crumbly, put it in the freezer for 10 minutes for it to regain its shape.


• Get the perfect smoky eye by drawing a hashtag on the outer part of your eyelid and blending it in.


• For a more flattering look, try switching to brown instead of black eyeliner. Black can often make your face look harsh and drain the color from your skin.


• By dusting nude colored eye shadow above and below your eye, your eyeliner will set better, thus making it last longer.

If you’re like me, you have that favorite pair of jeans that you wear over and over again!  Thank goodness denim doesn’t go out of style.  Although styles change, a trendy pair of jeans is always in!  Here are some tips to help keep your jeans looking as fresh as they did the day you bought them.

Jeggings are like a second pair of skin that you can slide into. They are stretchy, supportive, and stylish!  When you wash your jeggings/jeans, turn them inside out. I suggest using cold water and the delicate cycle.  Also, try to avoid using a hot dryer to dry your jeans. Hang them to dry or put the dryer on air only. This will prevent shrinkage. (Hint: It’s ok not to wash your jeans every time you wear them. Your jeans conform to your body and when you wash them they lose their shape.)

If you go to put your jeans on and they are feeling a bit tight, you can dampen, iron, and stretch them a bit especially around the waist.  Lastly, when you fold your jeans to put in your closet or drawers, don’t pack them too tightly. Denim fibers need air to breathe.

The best part about denim jeans is they come in every shape, style, and size.  The choices are endless:  curvy, skinny, faded, flare, coated, classic black. Whatever your look is, you can follow these tips to help your style last as long as possible!
