Summer, warm weather, and days in the sun are almost here… But first, graduation! With me being a senior this year, I’m graduating and moving on to bigger and better things. Graduation is a big deal, and I obviously want to look my best for the big day. So, I came up with a little guide on how to style your outfit for graduation day!

First comes first, know your colors. Since it’s spring, see which shades look best with your hair color and skin tone. Use those to your advantage! I love floral patterns during the spring. If you do too, you can always find the pattern you like with which colors go best with you! Not only is floral good for spring, but patterns are always fun to play around with! Don’t be too limited when it comes to patterns and materials. Stripes, lace, chevron, etc. may turn out to be your fave trend!

As far as guidelines go, make sure your dress isn’t too short or too low-cut. Although your gown will be covering up the majority of it, people will still see it for pictures and before and after the ceremony. For your shoes, I would suggest a stylish pair of wedges or casual heels. I prefer wedges because they’re more comfortable and easier to walk in (which is a good idea for walking to get your diploma!).

When it comes to styling your graduation hair and makeup there are a few things you need to keep in mind: humidity, confidence, and the cap! The day is alllll about the cap. And that super stylish graduation gown ;). But mostly the cap. So, when you are styling your hair and makeup for the big day, you need to be aware of how the humidity will affect your handiwork and how best to accentuate that hat. Here are a few tips to help you along.

1. Hair: When it comes to hair, you have to work around the hat. Usually styling your hair down is your best bet for hat-wearing activities. And, like I said earlier, humidity needs to be kept in mind. You will be in a hot, stuffy auditorium or gym for quite a while waiting for your turn to walk across the stage and get your diploma, and in that time your hair can go from sleek and chic to frizzy. Before styling your hair, use a shine serum to help tame frizz. Then after styling run a lightweight dry oil through your locks to prevent flyaways.
2. Makeup: Your grad cap will draw attention to your face, so be sure to use powder to prevent your skin from getting shiny and primer to prevent your makeup from running. Humidity can do not-so-great things to makeup. Also, accentuate your eyes! Use a dash of pearl shadow at the corners of your eyes to brighten them. Use a lip color that you are comfortable with, not something too crazy, and keep it simple. You want to be comfortable and confident in your graduation look! You will be taking tons of pictures and pictures last a lifetime, so you want to feel and look your best.

When I smell good I feel good. I don’t know what it is, but when I feel like I smell fresh, I feel so much more confident. Wouldn’t you agree? There are actually super simple ways to smell great all the time to help put a little pep in your step. We all have that friend who always smells so so good. No matter what time of day or what she’s been doing, whether after the gym or a long day at school, she always smells great. Want to be that girl? Read on.

1. Watch what you eat: This may sound silly, but it is a big deal. If you eat a diet full of onions, garlic, and spices it can actually come out through your pores and make you smell not-so-great! Avoid these foods 48 hours before a date to stay smelling fresh.
2. Know the right spots: Apply perfume to all of your “hotspots” like your wrists, behind your ears, your collarbone, inside your elbows, behind your knees, your ankles, and the small of your back. These places or the warmest on your body and activate the scent! But, be sure not to rub your wrists together, because this rubs the scent off much sooner!
3. Team up: Choose scents that have matching body lotions and body washes. This layers the scent and keeps it lasting wayyyy longer.
4. Keep it close: Keep a small, travel-size bottle of your perfume with you in your purse to reapply when necessary. Also, use scent pouches in your clothes drawers to keep your clothes smelling fresh. Fresh clothes help you smell fresh.

See? Smelling great all the day long isn’t a big task! It is so easy, and makes you feel fresh and confident!

1. A fresh spring bouquet: Surprise your mother dearest with a beautiful bouquet of fresh spring blooms. She is sure to love them, and they will brighten up your house and make it smell like spring!
2. A set of cozy PJs: Everyone knows moms go 100 miles an hour all day long, so grab her a set of super comfy pajamas to relax in.
3. A tree: Yes, a tree! Have her go with you to pick out a tree and plant it in your yard together. The tree will grow and grow over the years and will be a constant reminder of you. Plus, every sprig it will bloom and make your yard that much prettier!
4. Stylish accessories: Spruce up your momma’s accessory game with some stylish accessories like a chic pair of sunglasses or a classy pair of earrings!
5. Fun cookbook: If your madre likes to cook, then pick out a fun cookbook for her, like crockpot recipes or yummy dessert recipes! Then offer to cook something from the book with her. She will love that to pieces.

Make sure to give your momma a hug and a kiss and tell her just how much she means to you. Moms are one of God’s greatest gifts, can I get an amen?!

Whether it is your first or fourth time going to the prom, you most likely have questions about how the night and the events leading up to it should go down. In order to ease your troubled minds, I have come up with a list of frequently asked questions about prom and have answered them according to my findings on the subject!

1. Once I am asked to prom, how long can I wait to let them know if it is a “yes” or “no”?

• Ideally, you should let them know asap. If you aren’t sure of your answer right when they ask you, tell them, in the nicest way possible, that you will let them know soon.

2. Does he pay for dinner? Do I? Do we split it?

• If you are dating, he should pay. If you are going as friends, you should split it. If you are anything in between, assume you are splitting the check unless he offers to pay.

3. Is renting a limo necessary? Who pays, if so?

• Definitely not necessary! Driving to prom with your date can be a fun time for you two to get to know each other! If you DO end up renting a limo, it is usually with a group of friends, and you all pitch in.

4. How do you know if/what kind of boutonniere to buy your date?

• Ask him what color suit is, and ask him if he even wants one! It is totally okay for him not to want to wear one.

5. Should I meet his parents, and should he meet mine?

• I say yes, but it is whatever you feel comfortable with! Your parents may feel more comfortable sending you off to the dance if they have been introduced to who you are going with, and vice versa.

6. What if the night isn’t going well?

• If your date is a dud, if he is treating you badly, or if you are just having a bad time, try and hang with your friends. To avoid having to dance with your date if the night isn’t going well, grab your bff and dance with her or just go to the bathroom. Worse comes to worse, have your mom come get you.

7. Can I dance with other people at the prom?

• Up to you! If you are actually in a relationship with your date, you will need to clear it with him, but if you aren’t dating your date, I say yes! Slow dances are usually reserved for your date, but if a guy friend asks you to come dance the electric slide with him, I think that is totally cool! Of course, check with your date first.

8. Will my date expect me to kiss him at the end of the night?

• You kiss who you want to and when you want to, you don’t kiss because you feel you HAVE to! He shouldn’t expect anything. You choose who you kiss and when you kiss them! If you don’t feel like it is appropriate, then don’t! Simple as that.

Prom can be a difficult night to plan and prepare for. There are so many things you should have set even weeks or months in advance! Along with your plans, it"s a necessity to have your dress, jewelry, shoes, and everything else ready to go. Let me tell you, it can be stressful! I found and came up with some tips and hacks that will make prom flow much easier!

• Oftentimes when I wear a pair of heels, my feet slide all over the place. Spray your feet with hairspray, especially the heel, before putting on your shoes. This will prevent them from slipping all night long!
• One of the most annoying things about makeup is how quickly it can fade or rub off. If you want your lipstick to last longer, add a thin layer of lipstick, then a layer of powder, followed by another thin layer of lipstick or gloss.
• Carry a mini beauty kit in your clutch. Always have lip gloss, bobby pins, gum/mints, powder foundation, etc. Throw in whatever can fit and whatever you think could come in handy.
• If an unexpected pimple pops up, there’s not much you can do to automatically get rid of it, but you’re not out of luck! Take an ice cube and apply it to the area for 30-45 seconds. It doesn’t get rid of it, but it reduces the redness around it and makes it less noticeable!

I am heading off to college soon (yikes!!), and while I am crazy excited, I am pretty nervous too! I am leaving my friends and family behind (and my dogs, can’t forget them!), and starting a new chapter of my life. I asked a few of my college buds to give me some tips on what they learned their freshman year of college to help me out with the transition. Here are a few things I learned from them.

1. Don’t bring all of your worldly possessions with you. Your dorm room won’t fit them! There are lots of things you will learn to live without, and you will be so busy with college life that you won’t even notice you left them behind! Things like, oh I don’t know, your entire closet?
2. Don’t let the freshmen 15 get you. Just because you are away at college and don’t have your mom on your back about eating healthy doesn’t mean you should start eating junk! It will be tempting to eat pizza and chicken tenders 24/7 now that your mom isn’t there to tell you that you can’t, but do yourself a favor and eat healthy. It will keep you from getting sick and keep you in shape. Also, make gym dates with your roomie to help you stay in shape!
3. Keep in touch with your family: You may live away from home, but that is no excuse to lose touch with your family! Give them a call at least once a week to keep them updated. Your parents, siblings, and even grandparents would love to hear how things are going!
4. Actually go to class!: So many of my friends tell me that they know a lot of people that barely go to class in college. When school comes to about $50 a class in college, why would you waste that money and skip? It is only a few hours a day. Studies show that those who go to class get higher grades, not surprisingly. Just go to class, dude!
