Tanning has become an obsession between teens everywhere!  Being pale is “totally outdated” making the use of tanning beds higher than it used to be.  Unfortunately, this excessive exposure to UVA and UVB lights are causing a rise in skin cancer.  Although neither form of tanning is particularly safe, let’s compare the difference between tanning in a tanning bed and tanning outdoors in natural sunlight. Chelsea Crockett- natural sunlight tanning

So, which is worse for you: tanning beds or natural sunlight?  If you answered tanning beds, you’re correct!  Tanning in a tanning bed has become a daily routine for most teens.  With the lights so close to your body, you are exposing yourself to a risk of skin cancer two times greater than natural sunlight, according to the British Journal of Dermatology.  You could spend a couple hours in the mid-day sun and be better off than spending 15 minutes in a tanning bed.

This summer, try to spend more time outdoors and less time in a tanning bed.  Years down the road, your body will thank you for it.  Be careful Insiders!

Love,

Chelsea
