If you have a tropical trip planned for summer break/live by the ocean/swim a lot during the summer, your swimsuits take a beating! And as you know, swimsuits aren’t cheap. If you keep your swimsuits clean and maintained they last so much longer and you can wear your fav for years and years. To save some $$ and keep your suits usable for longer, follow these easy steps!

1. Rinse right away: Right after you get out of the ocean or pool, rinse your suit right away using a garden hose or faucet. This prevents the chemicals and salt drying into the fabric!
2. Don’t machine-wash: Wash your suits by hand to make sure they don’t lose their shape. Use cold water and gentle hand soap to prevent the colors from fading.
3. Let them air dry: The clothes dryer will do a number on your suits. We have all taken our suits out and stared in dismay at the bra pads all crunched up in the suit’s top. When drying them, don’t dry them in sunlight to avoid fading.

Have you ever looked at someone and immediately compared yourself to them? My guess is that almost everyone has done this, and done it many times. You look at them and think “I wish I was as skinny as her” or “I wish I had clothes as nice as hers.” I saw a quote online the other day that really hit home with me on this subject. It said “Admire someone else’s beauty without questioning your own.”

What does that quote say to me? It says that you should be able to look at someone and think “Wow. She is beautiful. She dresses so nice and has such a great personality!” without immediately thinking “Am I as pretty as her? Do people think that I have a great personality and dress nice?” As girls we can be so critical of ourselves. We feel pressure to look great, dress nice, and be “put-together” all the time. Everyone is beautiful, and they are beautiful in their own way. Us girls need to be supportive of each other and compliment and admire each other’s beauty without comparing it to our own. We are all so beautifully different!

I challenge you to admire other people’s beauty without doubting or questioning your own. Being confident in yourself is one of the best things you can be!

Maxi skirts are a clothing item that has been in style for a while and doesn’t have an end in sight. As spring comes in full swing and summer fast approaches, I reach for my maxi skirts. They are the perfect length to keep your legs sheltered on chilly spring mornings yet breezy enough to keep you cool during the early summer months! That being said, us short gals can have some issues when wearing long skirts, like them dragging on the ground, our feet getting caught on them BECAUSE they’re dragging on the ground, some make us look too short and wide, the list goes on. Tired of feeling this way, my petite ladies? Read on to find out how to make maxi skirts and dresses work for you!

1. Hem it yourself: Hemming a skirt is pretty simple, and it is a cheap solution to a skirt that is too long but you love it. All you need is an iron, needle, thread, and a sewing machine if you don’t want to hem it by hand.
2. Dry it: Toss it in the dryer to shrink it a bit, depending on the fabric. Be careful not to shrink it too much!
3. Wear heels: This is the easiest solution of them all. Just wear a pair of heels with the long dress or skirt to keep it from dragging! It involves zero money spent and almost zero effort. Plus, it is super fun to pair different heels with your skirt to find the perfect match!
4. Shop the kids section: Not only is it cheaper, it actually might fit you better!

As you grow up, your relationship with your mom changes. She goes from being an authoritative figure to a friend. Once you move out of the house you start making your own decisions and forging your own path, free from you mom’s care. You start to realize that all of the lessons she was trying to teach you were actually super relevant, and you wish you would have listened just a little bit harder. In honor of Mother’s Day I thought I would talk about how your relationship with your mom changes as you grow up. I think a lot of you can relate to these!

1. You listen to her advice…and you take it: When you are a teenager it can be hard to take mom’s advice because you think you know best. Boy are we wrong! Mother knows best. Moms are some of the wisest people on the planet. Be willing to listen to their advice, and when you need advice, ask for it!
2. You care about her dating advice: When we are younger it is easy for us to get defensive about who we are “dating” and don’t want to hear what they have to say about them because, well, they are totally right and you don’t want to admit it. As you mature you start seeking her advice about dating and ask for her opinion.
3. You can agree to disagree: Odds are, you and your madre don’t always see eye to eye on everything. When you are younger, disagreements can quickly turn into crying fits and “you just don’t understand mom!!!”. Actually, girlfriend, she DOES understand. And as you grow up, you learn to pick your battles and disagreements no longer end with you slamming your door in angst.
4. You do adult things together: Like going on walks in the park. Or going grocery shopping. Or going to lunch or getting coffee. See what I mean? You mom becomes more like a BFF. And that is awesome. You actually enjoy getting to clean up the kitchen and empty the dishwasher together because it is a time that you two get to talk.

My approaching college days are making me realize how much my relationship with my mom has changed over the years and how much more it will change after I leave. One thing I know is that my mom is one of my very best friends, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Since spring is amongst us and summer is quickly on its way, we might as well get crafty and in the spring spirit! Flowers are my favorite part about spring. I love all of the different colors that make the outdoors even more beautiful. While scrolling through Pinterest the other day, I found the cutest DIY that’s simple and perfect for the season!

First off, you’ll need to get your supplies. You will need a hot glue gun, spray paint (optional), scissors, fake flowers (whatever color matches your room!), and a hollow letter (which you can make yourself with another DIY or you can find it online or at select décor stores!). Pick out which fake flowers will go together and match your room colors.

Next comes the real fun. Depending on what color your letter is, you can spray paint it whatever shade will match your room! While your letter is drying, take your fake flowers and cut off all of the stems. You just want the top part of the flower which will make it easier to glue them on a surface. After your stems are cut, make sure your glue gun is ready to go. Apply hot glue on the surface where you will put your flower one at a time. Place your flower on the glue and hold it till it sticks! Arrange each flower how you want it!

It’s as simple as that! Depending on whether you set it on your dresser or hang it on your wall, it’ll help get you (and your room) in the spring spirit!

Change is scary. It can be good or bad, hard or easy, little or life-changing… Since I’m graduating high school this year, I’m expecting a lot of change within the next few months. Throughout high school, I’ve learned some valuable lessons that can help me in the next chapter of my life and simply life in general. Hopefully they can be of use to you, too!

As a senior, I’ve seen myself change in ways I didn’t think I would. I’ve realized one of my big mottos throughout the years was always “Everything happens for a reason.” Although that quote may be a little cliché, I’ve always trusted God’s plan in knowing that whatever happens is supposed to. With recent college decisions, I’ve had to accept and trust different aspects of the future. I’ve prayed for guidance and confidence, and God has shown me the way every time.

Another thing I always remind myself of is to surround myself with good people. My friends throughout my high school career have changed from time to time, but my best friends today have always been there for me. It is so so important to surround yourself with people who are encouraging, trustworthy, and have a good sense of humor :). They make change easier by always having your back!

My favorite verse of the Bible, as you all know, is Jeremiah 29:11. It says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” These are good words to trust full heartedly when embracing change, whether it be big or small!

Spring is the perfect time to rock a midi skirt. What is a midi skirt, you ask? It is a skirt that is in-between the length of a maxi skirt and a mini skirt. It comes to your knees and is a classy, retro piece that I love! Midi skirts are perfect for spring because they are not too long so you don’t get too hot, and not to short so you don’t get chilly! Here are a few of my favorite spring midi skirt styles.

1. Floral: I love this floral midi from Lulus. It has sort of a watercolor look to it. The floral print is so feminine and darling! This ensemble would be the perfect grad party wear.
2. Pastel: Pastel midis are chic and classic. They give you an understated, elegant look that is just timeless. If you desire a simple, sweet ensemble, pair a pastel midi skirt with a simple sweater and wedges or heels. This is a great spring church outfit or brunch look!
3. Bright: If you are looking to make a statement, then grab a bright colored midi! I love this hot pink retro-ish skirt. It gives off a fun, carefree vibe. This skirt is also from Lulus!
