How to build your wardrobe part 3: time to go shopping!

You’ve cleaned out your closet, defined your personal style, and now it’s time for my favorite part! SHOPPING!

When most people go to fill their closet back up, they just buy random pieces that they like. Shopping like that doesn’t build a sturdy wardrobe. Before you head to the store this time, there’s a little more work to be done.

Step 1: Make A Shopping List

Look through your current clothing and take note of the pieces you’re missing. Which pieces are you always reaching for but never have? Next, move to your style list that we created in part 2. What pieces do you need to add to your wardrobe so you can achieve your desired style? Remember to look for the pieces and styles you saw repeating in your inspiration.

 Step 2: Prioritize Your Purchases

Go through your shopping list and prioritize which pieces will have the most impact in your wardrobe at the current time. Start with the basics, or the pieces you’ll wear most often. Then move on to the pieces you need to start or finish your inspiration looks. These are the pieces that tie everything together. The lowest on the list might be things like accessories or pieces similar to what’s already in your closet. If you’re on a budget, your priority items will be the first things to shop for, and then slowly work down your list as your budget allows.

 Step 3: In-Store vs. Online

Shopping in the store will give you instant gratification. You will be able to add the purchases to your closet right away and will be able to see how they work with the rest of your wardrobe.

Shopping online has benefits as well! When you shop online, you can be in the comfort of your own home! Everyone has their own preference on which way to shop.

Don’t be afraid to try a trend or style that may be different from what you’re used to wearing. But remember, if it doesn’t fit great, look great, and feel great, it’s not part of your perfect wardrobe. Also, don’t get frustrated if shopping feels difficult or unsuccessful. Once you start, it will get easier, I promise!

XOXO, Chels
