High School to College Transition: What You Should Know

Transitioning from high school to college is a big deal.  You’re moving away from home, forced to make new friends, and have to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life.  That’s a lot to think about!  Luckily, there are multiple ways to make this transition easier.

If you are doing a random roommate, take the time to get to know them before you get to school!  If you live far away, text, add each other on social media sites, or talk on the phone!  If you live close, meet up for lunch or shopping.  It’s a great way to break the ice!

It’s important to remember that you’re not alone when you step on campus.  Every single freshman is in your same position, therefore it’s important to be outgoing!  It’s the number one rule to making friends in college.  Don’t be shy to introduce yourself to anyone and everyone you meet.  You might just meet your new best friend!  Also, make a point to get to know your professors.  Having a professor know you personally is a great way to score brownie points and get extra help in class.  They may also be very helpful in the future when it comes to picking classes or getting a job.  It’s also important to make your dorm room as comfortable as possible!  Even though it won’t be like your room at home, try to make it as close as possible!Chelsea Crockett- dorm

Do not worry if you have no idea what you want to major in.  Take time your freshman year to decide what you want to do by completing your general education courses first.  This way, you will have another year to decide!

Most importantly, stay true to yourself!  Someone on campus will love you for you, so do not change to be part of a certain crowd.  Soon enough, you will find a close group of friends!  Everything good takes time, right?!  Live it up; college is the best time of your life!
