What is your favorite kind of soda? I love Sprite, but every once in a while I am in a Dr. Pepper mood. A lot of times people reach for soda instead of water when they are ordering a meal or eating dinner. Soda can be a tasty treat, but it also has a lot of negative effects on the body. I will explain:big_soda


  1. Weight: Did you know that drinking one soda a day is equal to consuming 39 pounds of sugar a year. Regularly consuming sugary drinks interacts with the genes that affect weight. Sugary drinks are linked to more than 180,000 obesity related deaths a year!

  2. Bones: The acid and caffeine in soda has been linked to bone density loss.

  3. Lungs: The more soda you drink the more likely you are to develop asthma.

  4. Teeth: The high levels of acid in the soda corrode your teeth, almost as bad as battery acid! Yikes!

  5. Brain: having too much sugar in your diet reduces the production of a brain chemical that helps us learn and store memories. Consuming too much sugar also dulls the brain’s mechanism for telling you to stop eating.

See? Soda isn’t all refreshing sugary goodness. It is actually does pretty nasty things to your body. So, try grabbing a yummy drink like a fruit smoothie or even fruit flavored water instead of soda! Your body will thank you.
