Bad Company Corrupts Good Character

Have you ever heard the verse 1 Corinthians 15:33 “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character."”? I think that it is the perfect verse for high school and even college students. The verse pretty much says that you are who you hang out with, and that if you hang around bad people, you will become like them.

How do you know you are hanging out with the wrong type of crowd? One of the first signs is that they are making you do things you do not want to do, whether it is lying to your parents or going as far as breaking the law. They do not have your best interests at heart. They might cuss and use profane language, which, if you hang out with them often, will start to rub off on you. You may start to use the same words they do. They could use peer pressure to make you do things that you know are not right, such as making fun of someone. They will make you try to believe that what you are doing is not wrong, and that everyone does it, but that is not the truth. If you start to feel guilty about what you are doing and are having doubts on whether what you are doing is right or wrong, then you know you are hanging out with the wrong type of crowd.

What is the solution to this problem? Find friends who actually care about you and your well-being! I know that my best friends have my back and keep me accountable when they see that I am doing something I shouldn’t be or if I am doing something that wouldn’t please God. Find friends that go to church, because friends that pray together stay together. Hang out with people that make you feel good about yourself!
